One-day workshop on research methodologies (1 ECTS)
Riigiteaduste Instituut (Institute of Political Science and Governance),
Tallinn University
31 October 2014, 13:00 – 19:00
Riigiteaduste Instituut (Institute of Political Science and Governance) is pleased to invite
PhD candidates from any Estonian research institute to join a one-day methodological
seminar with external speakers.
The workshop will be held on Friday, 31 October 2014, 13:00 – 19:00, in three sessions.
Each session will have two goals:
1) To deliver a presentation on how methodology can be used in a particular context
(depending on the speaker's expertise);
2) To provide participating students with feedback on their methodological approach (3-4
students will be allocated to each session and receive feedback from the speakers).
Session 1: Internet-based research: dealing with meta-data
Dr Filippo Menga, University of Cagliari
Dr Menga will present Lexis Nexis, a software for meta-data collection and provide
feedback to students participating in his session.
Session 2: Ethnography
Prof Keti Kutsushvili, Tbilisi State University
Prof Kutsushvili will present challenges of research in difficult areas (ethnically divided,
minorities, conflict areas) and provide feedback to students allocated to her session.
Session 3: TBD
(we will choose the speaker depending on the expertise needed to comment on students'
presentations)
This is a great opportunity for PhD students to present their project and receive feedback
from international experts who have experience in a similar methodological approach.
There is no obligation to submit a paper in advance but if you wish so, we will circulate it
and assign you a commentator. Those attending and presenting their research will receive
a 1 ECTS credit certificate.
The workshop will also be an excellent opportunity to network and get to know each other.
If you are a PhD student and would like to participate, please contact as soon as possible
and no later than the 10th of October 2014
Emilia Pawlusz ([email protected]) or Aleksandra Seliverstova ([email protected])
and provide:
- Abstract of your intended presentation (max 300 words)
- Affiliation
If you have questions, do not hesitate to contact us!
