Under the guidance of leading performing arts practitioners, these stimulating and rigorous courses will provide you with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge you need to engage successfully in the performing arts. You will learn the craft of acting and performing through extensive performance skills training. In addition to preparing students for a career as working actors and performers, the program equally encourages and supports you to pursue your own independent performance practice, and provides you with the motivation and practical skills to initiate this process. You will be given the opportunity to take classes and workshops partnered with the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), and we have strong ties to local arts organisations and theatre companies, including an official partnership with the La Boite Theatre Company. Graduates are working as actors in main-stage and independent theatre, film & TV, writing and devising their own performance work, securing creative development residencies, directing, presenting original work both locally and nationally at youth arts festivals, and pursuing university study. Course details The Diploma of Arts (Acting) program will provide you with an initial grounding in acting & performance. You will acquire a basic level of practical skills and theoretical knowledge to engage in further studies in the performing arts. During this 12-month course, you will learn practical and theoretical skills in acting, voice, body, singing and music. Supporting studies will include theatre history, screen and TV, performance writing and technical theatre. You will also have the opportunity to perform in two major public productions. Graduates from this program will gain direct entry into higher-level study at TAFE Queensland Brisbane. (Details of our new Acting and Performance program will be announced shortly). Entry requirements The entry requirements for this program are; It is essential that applicants submit a portfolio and undergo an audition process School Leavers must have completed Year 12 or equivalent with a Sound Achievement in English and Non school-leavers are selected according to eligibility and merit, vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies PLEASE NOTE: Portfolio submission is separate to the QTAC application submission.
