ACTING CLASSES Television | Film | Theatre in partnership with ACTING FOR TELEVISION, FILM & THEATRE Our teaching is at the cutting edge of what is happening in the television, film and theatre industry today. We aim to equip both children and adults with the necessary skills and techniques required for performance whether for television and film or theatre (including musical theatre). Acting techniques taught by PSC are grounded in Stanislavsky, Sanford Meisner, Lee Strasberg and Michael Chekov, while teaching contemporary and modern television and film acting derived from leading industry professionals including ITV and BBC directors and world renowned acting coaches: Mel Churcher (Daniel Craig, Angelina Jolie and Jude Law) and Jeremiah Comey (Billy Zane, Johnny Knoxville and Kayla Ewell). Children’s classes contain a musical theatre element which includes both dance and vocal coaching, along with character development, improvisation and the embodiment of character. Parker and Snell Company believes that a strong grounding in acting and acting techniques, alongside the discipline of song and dance, serves to create a rounded and versatile performer, from realism acting (which is required for the camera), to physical characterization (required for theatre). Students who have enrolled on our acting for television, film and theatre courses will have the opportunity to meet industry professionals including actors from Coronation Street, Downton Abbey, Shameless, Waterloo Road, ITV/BBC drama, casting directors from the BBC and ITV, professional film and theatre directors. TUTORS All of our tutors have either trained (formerly IOM Acting Academy) or worked with PSC extensively. Visiting professionals include (former IOM Acting Academy) June West (ITV casting director), Mel Churcher (A list acting coach), Kieran Griffiths (Shameless, The Street), Simon Powell (independent film director), William Ash (Waterloo Road, Hush), Michelle Holmes (Rita, Sue & Bob Too, Coronation Street, Above Suspicion) Peter Hunt (acting coach ALRA) and Matthew Bannister (RADA tutor and actor). ADULT CLASS Our adult class for ages 18 and over covers television, film and theatre acting, with techniques taught ranging from Stanislavsky to Michael Chekhov, including unique and exclusive techniques taught by class tutor Carl Parker. We aim to develop a rounded and individual performer with transferable skills from stage to screen. Our primary focus is grounded in realism acting which is required for television and film, while exploring physical characterisation and voice work for the purpose of theatre. A focus on developing a child’s instinct and intuition, while teaching the discipline required for theatre and television performance, is paramount to PSC teaching. We aim to instil a confidence and esteem which will not only enhance a child’s performance skills but will also enhance their social and personal interaction skills. Our classes will incorporate a musical theatre element where the discipline of both song and dance will feature during the course of each term. Acting for screen will also feature as part of the course, enabling children to understand the basic elements required when filming for either television or film. Casting directors are far more likely to favour children with a foundation in screen acting when it comes to casting for television dramas or feature films.
