TRANSFER APPLICATION DATA SHEET Thank you for your order with Insta Graphic Systems. Your transfers have been produced by the leader in custom heat transfers. With more than fifty years of development and manufacturing experience in the transfer business, we stand proudly behind every transfer we manufacture. Your transfer should withstand normal use and multiple washings after proper application. MAKING QUALITY HEAT TRANSFERS IS OUR JOB – APPLYING THEM PROPERLY IS YOUR JOB. Although we do everything possible to assure you the finest quality heat transfers, we cannot control the application. Proper transfer application is the most important step. There are five critical variables that affect proper transfer application: Temperature • Pressure • Time • Peeling • Handling We strongly recommend you wash test all fabrics with applied transfers prior to production. To ensure proper adhesion, please perform wash tests 24 hours after applying heat transfers. Heat transfers must be applied with a heat transfer machine, such as those manufactured by Insta Graphic Systems. To help assure that your transfer application experience is successful, we include application instructions in every individual transfer package. It is important that you read and understand these instructions before applying your transfers. Below is a listing of the most common problems, their causes and solutions. Transfer does not stick to the garment Transfer edges lifting up Probable Cause Solution • Not enough dwell time • Not enough pressure • Not enough heat • Cold spot in heated platen • Check dwell time • Check pressure • Check temperature • Check with temperature strip or • Warped/dirty heat platen • Check platen for flatness • Defective bottom silicone pad • Peeling too abruptly • Improper handling of garment • Peel smoothly and evenly • Garment should remain flat when • Too much pressure • Too much dwell time Puff is flat Puff pulls off garment • Too much dwell time Too much heat Opaque transfer not opaque on 50/50 blends • • Too much pressure • Too much dwell time Opaque transfer not opaque on 100% cotton • Too much pressure • Transfer not peeled cold Ink sticks to paper • Not enough heat during application • Backing paper not removed Paper will not peel off (hot peel transfer) Garment bleeds through the transfer while hot pyrometer Clean platen • Replace silicone pad removing from machine until cool • Reduce pressure • Reduce dwell time • Reduce dwell time • Reduce temperature • Reduce pressure • Reduce dwell time • Reduce pressure • Wait 45 seconds before peeling • Increase temperature • Remove backing paper immediately after application TRANSFER STORAGE CONDITIONS Transfers should be stored in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight at a temperature no higher than 75°F (24°C).
