Form Competition In Form competition, individuals perform choreographed sequences of movements against an imaginary opponent. All Forms range in difficulty according to individual belt rankings and require the mastering of different hand and foot techniques. Competitors at all levels are judged on the accuracy of their movements, as well as their grace, balance, power and focus. Forms bring awareness and understanding to the areas of sparring, breaking, and selfdefense. They can be considered the math formula for the martial arts since their patterns can be applied in any potentially dangerous situation. Students should review the forms regularly so that if a real-life situation did occur the defense movements would be automatically carried out. Depending on the situation, parts of one or more forms could be incorporated by the student. Board Breaking Information HOW TO WATCH BOARD BREAKING COMPETITION ▌Many people wonder why breaking is important in the martial arts. Breaking is a test of the training ability of a student. It enables him or her to practice techniques on an object, rather than a person. It also serves to evaluate shortcomings of various hand and foot techniques. Possible problem areas that can be targeted with breaking are balance, rhythm, speed, focus, concentration, power, and energy. When performing breaking, the mind and body must work as one unit: pure strength, without concentration and focus, will not break the object. Breaking is an excellent way to gain self- confidence. Successful breaking tells you: “Yes, I can!” ▌When breaking in competition, the more advanced the technique, the better the competitor will score. But more importantly than the difficulty of the breaking technique is its effectiveness when carried out: a competitor successfully breaking with basic techniques will score higher than a competitor with complex techniques who does not break the object, or only after more than one attempt. ▌Power Breaking (Punch, Knife Hand, Elbow, Fist, Palm) (*Only permitted for 15 years old & up, *Starting with 7 Boards) Weapons Competition (Nunchuck, Bo Staff, Sword) Time Limit (1minute 30seconds to demonstrate routine) Nunchucks are a dynamic attack method that can cause confusion to the opponent. Learning weapons teaches us, body positioning, extension, alignment, and using our entire body to create power. Bo Staff is the longest weapon that can help someone to attack or defend more effectively. Weapons help students learn coordination and concentration, as well as harmony between body and weapon. Form, Sparring & Board Breaking Divisions – Color belts must follow official direction, but Black belts can do their own routine. (Boards must be purchased at check-in. There are three chances for each breaking technique.) Age Belt 4-6 White-Yellow Orange-Green Basic 1, 2 Tae Geuk 1 Tae Geuk 1 2 3 3 Boards Tae Geuk 3456 1. Hammer Fist, 2. Front Snap Kick, 3.
