SACRAMENT OF THE MOST HOLY
EUCHARIST
As a parish, the Holy Sacrifice of the
Mass is central to who we are and what we do.
Normal Mass Times are listed on the front of the
bulletin. Please contact the office for special Mass
times during Lent and Holy Days of Obligation. To
receive your First Holy Communion, contact the
Parish Office, 896-9408.
SACRAMENT OF CONFESSION
Essential to the Christian Life, the
Sacrament of Confession is where we come into
contact with Christ who wishes to heal and bless us.
Regular Confession is an integral part of practicing
our Faith and experiencing the peace and joy of a
personal relationship with Jesus. 30 minutes before
every Mass, the Sacrament of Confession is offered.
If you need to receive the Sacrament of Confession
for the first time, contact the Parish Office, 8969408.
SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM
Through the waters of Baptism, the new
Christian enters the Church and is given Eternal
Life. If you would like to have your infant baptized,
please contact the Parish Office at least 2-4 months
prior to the baby’s due date so that there is enough
time to complete preparation for the Sacrament.
Parents
should
be
registered,
participating members of the Parish Family.
Candidates for Sponsors (Godparents) should be
attending Mass regularly. Both parents and sponsors
will attend a Baptismal Seminar before they receive
the Baptismal Packet which must be received before
an approved date is scheduled.

SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE
In the beginning, God created mankind
as one, male and female. Christ elevated this union
to the level of a Sacrament, an image of His own love
for His Bride, The Church. Our Parish Family is
made up of many beautiful marriages who enrich the
Church and the world. Couples discerning the
vocation of Holy Matrimony should contact the
Parish Office to begin the journey of preparing for
their new life together no later than 6-9 months prior
to the desired wedding date.

THE SICK AND FUNERAL/BURIAL
ARRANGEMENTS
The Church and her Sacraments
accompany us at every moment of our life. When
we are very sick or nearing the end of this life, we
receive the healing of Christ through Anointing of
the Sick. Please contact the Parish Office, 896-9408,
to make an appointment.

As we continue to celebrate our 140 years of
Catholic Faith and Service in Carencro, we also celebrate the
priests who served as our pastors. Over the next several
weeks we will highlight each of the priests who provided for
the Spiritual needs of St. Peter Parish.

Pastor: 1877 – 1880

In 1877, the Reverend J. F. Suriray succeeded Fr
Guillot. Under his leadership a new parish church was built.
His pastorate lasted for only three years and shortly after his
departure in1881, the church was destroyed by fire.
St. Peter Parish was without a pastor until 1883.

Pastor: 1883 – 1892
Fr. Maurius Welte was appointed the
third pastor of St. Peter Parish
serving from 1883 to 1892. When he
left, St. Peters was again without a
church building as the church built
by Fr. Welte was destroyed during a
storm.

SEMINARIAN DAVID ROZAS TO BE INSTALLED AS ACOLYTE….
The Installation of Acolyte will take place at Notre Dame
Seminary in New Orleans on Sunday, October 12th.
So what is an acolyte?
Per the General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM), as an
Acolyte, the deacon candidate is instituted to serve at the Altar and to assist
the priest and deacon. In particular, it is his responsibility to prepare the
Altar and the sacred vessels and, if it is necessary, serve as an Extraordinary
Minister and distribute the Holy Eucharist. Now most parishes aren’t
“staffed” with an instituted Acolyte, so lay ministers have been deputed to
serve at the Altar.
David, along with his classmates have petitioned for and will
received the Ministry of Acolyte. It is one of five formal, liturgical steps
toward Holy Priesthood Ordination. One year ago David received the
Ministry of Lector. He will be received as a formal Candidate for Holy Orders
during the Rite of Candidacy in the Sumer of 2015. God and bishop-willing,
David will take part in the Rite of Ordination for Transitional Diaconate come
May 2016 and Priesthood Ordination in June of 2017.

and all our seminarians who are in formation for Holy Orders.

(Mk 16:20). The Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette
minister to people of every race, language, culture and way
of life – beginning at the La Salette Shrine in France where
our Blessed Mother appeared in 1846. Her final words, “Well,
my children, you will make this known to all my people,” echo
Jesus’ Gospel mandate. It is little wonder that the La Salette
Congregation has always been mission orientated. When
called upon by the Vatican to preach the Gospel in foreign
lands, they eagerly responded. This spirit brought them to
mission in 27 countries, especially among the poor in Angola,
Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Haiti, India, Madagascar, Myanmar
and the Philippines. With your cooperation, the Missionaries
of La Salette can continue to provide spiritual and financial
assistance to these mission countries as they bring God’s
reconciling message to the poor.
ST. TERESA OF JESUS

Feast Day, October 15th
St. Teresa (1515-1582) was born in Avila and died
in Alba, Spain. When only a child of seven, she
ran away from home in the hope of being martyred
by the Moors; in this way, she said, she could
come to see God. At the age of eighteen she
joined the Carmelite Order and chose Christ as her heavenly
Spouse. With the help of St. John of the Cross she reformed
most of the Carmelite convents and founded new ones. She
reached the highest degree of prayer and through prayer
obtained such knowledge of divine things that in 1970 Pope Paul
VI named her the first woman Doctor of the Church.

PARISH WORK DAY
St. Peter’s will be holding a parish work day on
Saturday, October 18th beginning at 8:00am. We
will do a general cleaning of the facilities and grounds
and some small repairs. Any adult (both male and female), or
high school age accompanied by a parent, who would
be available to help out is asked to meet at the Parish
Office at 8:00am. We will finish for 12:00 noon.
Come out and join fellow parishioners as we work
together in service for our wonderful parish!
ST. LANDRY CATHOLIC CHURCH CEMETERY TOURS
St. Landry Catholic Church Cemetery Tours will be held in
Opelousas, on October 11, 12, 18 and 19 with Saturday tours
at 6, 7 & 8 PM and Sunday tours at 2 & 3 PM. Tours are $10

hourly, are not handicapped accessible and not suitable (safety)

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT
There are certain Bible verses Christian stewards have memorized. One
of them is in Saint Paul’s letter to the Philippians found in today’s second
reading – “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (4:13).
Most people define themselves either by their problems or their
possibilities. Fearful people wake up each morning ensnared by their
problems. Christian stewards wake up reflecting on their possibilities with
confidence and hope. Some stewardship reflection questions for the week:
What challenges do you back away from because you doubt that you are
up to them? What would you attempt tomorrow if you were sure God would
help you?

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY
Next weekend our parish will celebrate World Mission
Sunday. This year we are invited to reach out and help build
the Church in Mongolia, the world’s youngest Catholic
Church, as well as local churches throughout the Missions, in
the most remote areas across our world. Through the work
of these churches, and their witness to Christ, the poor
receive practical help and experience God’s love and mercy,
His hope and peace. Please keep the Missions in your daily
prayers. Please come prepared next weekend to give
generously in the collection for the Society for the Propagation
of the Faith.

ROSARY FOR PEACE
The Rosary for peace for our country and our soldiers
will be prayed every Thursday before 6:30 a.m. Mass.
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in
You will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect
these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect
them with the shield of Your strength and keep them
safe from all evil and harm. May the power of Your
love enable them to return home in safety, that with all
who love them, they may ever praise You for Your loving care. We
ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
