Soup’s On!
2014 Soup Contest Rules:
1. Contest entry form, fee and soup recipe must be received by 10/27/14. Checks can be made payable to
Baltic School (memo-community garden). Forms and payment can be left in the Baltic Elementary
School office during school hours.
2. Contest entry fee is $5 per soup entered. There is no limit to the number of soups entered by one
person.
3. Entrants must be willing to share the entered soup recipes. Credit must be given to the source of the
recipes (cookbook, author, or website) if you are not using an original recipe. Copies of your recipe will
be made prior to the event and will be provided to your booth so the public can participate in the
recipe exchange.
4. Soups must be prepared from a recipe. Canned soup or rehydrated powdered soup mixes are not
allowed. Canned ingredients in the soup recipe are allowed (for example canned tomatoes or canned
beans).
5. Soups must be prepared ahead of time. Soups should be brought to the contest ready to serve, and will
be kept warm in a crock pot. You will need to bring your own soup ladle.
6. Entrants will need to bring enough soup to provide tasting samples, 8-10 servings or a full crockpot.
Small cups for the samples will be provided to you.
7. Plastic foodservice gloves must be worn while serving soup samples and will be provided.
8. All soups to be judged will need to be present in the Baltic School Commons by 1 p.m. on 11/1/14.
9. Soups will be judged according to the following criteria: taste, aroma, appearance, quality, creativity. A
scale of 1 to 5 points (1 being poor and 5 being excellent) will be used to score each of the criteria. The
soup with the most points will win the contest. If the need for a tie-breaker should arise, the names of
the contenders will be put into a hat and the winner will be drawn by a neutral party.
10. A runner up in the soup contest will be selected by popular vote from the contest entrants.
