President’s Notes
Dear Patrons,
I hope everyone has had an opportunity to see the band perform at one of the home
football games or at the clinic or competition. They have had great performances and have
added new details each time I have seen them.
A big thank you goes to all the volunteers who made Tag Day a great success. We
collected from not only our traditional neighborhoods but also from new areas that are now part
of the Woodson district. Thanks to all the drivers, tabulators, uniform helpers, hospitality
helpers and the students and everyone else who volunteered. A special thank you goes to the
Tag Day committee members who have been working for several months so everything goes
smoothly for our biggest fundraiser of the year..
Please join us at the next Band Patrons meeting on October 16th. We will discuss
upcoming events including the fall trip, opportunities to support your student, the marching band
competitions and the many other events that occur this fall. We will meet in the band room
starting at 7:30.
We have several Committee chairs whose band members will graduate this year and we
want to identify their successors now in order to allow an easy transition. We are looking for
committee chairs for our PTSO representative and Vehicle Donations. Please contact me if you
could help to chair a Committee.
As you can see from the following articles in the Trumpeter, we have many openings
where we need parent volunteers. Our Uniform, Chaperone, Pit Crew and Concessions
committees need your support for their work to support the Band. Please use SignUp Genius to
volunteer.
Thanks for everyone’s support for the Band. Please come see your student at their next
performances. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Uniform Information
***MARCHING UNIFORMS***
·
A Special BLAST will come out as soon as we have the details for the fall trip
HOME GAMES & COMPETITIONS
Come prepared with
1.
Lightweight gym type shorts
2.
WHITE crew neck T-Shirt (NOT V-neck) There cannot be any markings on the t-shirt
unless it is the Perfect Storm or past band t-shirts.
3.
Tall clean black socks* (or $3 to buy a pair)
4
4.
Wear tall BLACK socks with NO markings what so ever. They should be solid (no lines or
textures) and calf to knee high.
5.
Marching shoes cleaned and shiny will have a table with supplies for use at school
6.
Hair must be up neatly if longer than collar length. Use only BLACK hair ties and bobby
pins. You can use a “same color of your hair” hair net to hold in fly away hair or a skull cap to
pull hair up onto head.
No nail polish
No Jewelry not even a watch (Take earrings out)
**A Note about SOCKS!!! We are having trouble with students too many students trying to
“pass off” with just close enough socks. Mrs. Hall now says NO ribbed socks… making is just
easier for the uniform checkers to know what is okay and what is not. The socks I buy are
always for sale in the band room before events.
The socks I found are sold at Walmart in the men’s trouser sock section. I buy them in a 5 pack
for about $9. Online they are even a better value so I’ll order them from here.
They are http://www.walmart.com/ip/George-Men-s-Cotton-Flat-Knit-Value-10-Pack/31427931
A sock for girls if they don’t want to wear the boys http://www.walmart.com/ip/Luxury-DivasBlack-4-Pack-Flat-Knit-Soft-Knee-High-Socks/37810675
NO Athletic socks, they fade too quickly and are ribbed
NO nylons unless completely opaque like tights
It sounds picky, but we are trying to make it consistent. These socks will also be perfect for
concert season (for men). The students aren’t paying attention to when socks get the white pills
on them, fade to grey and some even show up with navy blue which is easy to do.
If you borrow socks without having money you will get written up and the list is given to Mrs.
Hall at the end of the quarter and it affects your preparation grade.
If you buy socks you do not get written up. I’m trying to make this easy for you J
If you do not have money and get written up, you can put $3 in an envelope in the “black” box
and I will cross your name off the list.
Away <PEP BAND> Games
Come dressed comfortably within school code J. We will give you an old football jersey to wear
to the game.
No other uniform required J
Student Service Hours!!!
Washers Needed…
Wash Away game football jerseys or gloves and get a service hour toward your Band letter!
Ask Mrs. Hall or Mrs. Freeman after an AWAY game.

GUYS-- bring your washed and pressed tux shirt, clean shoes, black socks* and white crew tshirt (NOT V-neck).

First Aid Information
Thank you to the many parents who submitted Prescription Medication, Inhaler and/or
Epinephrine Authorization Forms. It truly has helped me prepare for the upcoming overnight
trip. Unfortunately after reviewing the Emergency Care forms, I know I am still missing several
medication authorization forms. If you have not already done so, PLEASE submit your
student’s applicable authorization form(s) ASAP. As a reminder these forms must be signed
and stamped by a Licensed Health Care Provider. Put all completed forms in the band room
mailbox. If your student self carries an inhaler and/or epinephrine, he is still required to have
the authorization form. No student requiring inhalers and/or epinephrine will be allowed on the
trip if the band does not have a copy of the appropriate authorization(s).
Thank you for helping to ensure the safety of your child.

Woodson Bands!
What is “scrip” and how does it help Woodson Bands?
“Scrip” is, essentially, gift cards. You purchase cards for your favorite stores, restaurants, and service
providers – where you shop every day – and the Band Patrons receive a percent (ranging from 1% to as
high as 18% or more) of your card purchase as income to offset expenses. There is no additional cost to
you, and you get the full value of your gift card. Buy them for your ongoing, regular purchases, or keep
some on hand for birthday or thank you gifts.

Senior Night Form
Senior Night - Friday, 10/24 Instructions to Parents/Escorts
Parents will not receive tickets for the game but will be let into the game by a Band Patron who
will be checking in Parents at the main gate. Be down on the track near the 20 yard line by the
beginning of half time. A volunteer parent will put you in alpha order at that time. Once the
band finishes their show, senior names will be announced and you will walk up and meet your
student at the 50 yd line on the track and then move down to form a line facing the home
stands. After half time the seniors are free to go but of course must turn in their uniforms first.
