The Weekly Church Bulletin NEWARK CHURCH OF CHRIST Clinton Avenue and S. 14th Street Newark, NJ 07108 Volume Number 52 42 Sunday, October 19, 2014 GETTING IT ALL TOGETHER Eugene Lawton Minister Church Office 973 374-4563 Fax 973 374-6704 Church Calendar Sunday Bible School 10:00 a.m. Worship Services 11:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m. Thursday Bible Classes 7:00 p.m. RADIO PROGRAM Sunday at 2:30 pm WMCA 570 AM In our mixed up, twisted, divided, old wicked world, the saving word for a world that is splitting apart is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This word, SPLIT, seems to be everywhere in our world. We have split personalities, split families, split nations, split political parties, split attitudes toward human rights, and a split world. Our world is in desperate need of a uniting power. It needs Christ, the Prince of Peace, who is adequately competent to hold all things together. In the hustle and bustle, ever rushing, competitive world of ours, it seems like everything is going to pieces. Truth has been torn asunder, morality has been split to immorality, justice has deteriorated to bold injustice, and the religious world is so badly split up until it has brought an embarrassing mockery on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. This denomination has pulled away from that denomination; and the split has been split; and the split split has been split, until now there are more than 300 churches in America. And men who call themselves ambassadors of God, stand in the pulpits and in their prayers thank God for the church of your choice. When I think of this awful situation, the passage that comes to mind is: "God is not the author of confusion but of peace." (I Cor. 14:33) In other words, God is not responsible for this mixed up, twisted and divided religious world; but on the contrary it is rebellious, hard-hearted, disobedient man. THE GOSPEL IS ABLE TO BRING US TOGETHER RELIGIOUSLY. Paul urges us to be one in Christ. (I Cor. 1:10) If preachers would stop preaching what they feel, claimed to have seen and heard, and just preach the unadulterated word of God, we are on the way to being one. Preachers need to speak as the oracles of God. (I Peter 4:11) This glorious gospel can bring us together when we study it and not just read it. (2 Tim.2:15), rightly divided the word stop letting the conscience be our guide, lay aside the creeds of men, and do what God has commanded us to do.
