SUPPORT OUR ASSOCIATION MEMBERS UTCA: INDUSTRY NEWS Nancy Damato & Marilyn Grabowski Recognized At Leading Women Entrepreneurs & Business Owners The Association’s Legislative Committee found that many local governments still require the submission of financial statements in order to submit bids on local public works projects. There had been nothing in the law that specifically permits them to make this private information a mandatory bid item, nor is there any standardization as to the form and type of documentation that must be submitted. It is not surprising, then, that this gray area in the law holds up projects, increases the frequency of bid challenges, and creates a paperwork nightmare for many businesses trying to bid on public work projects governed by Local Public Contracts Law. Financial statements are unnecessary and onerous when it comes to bidding. The financial capability that must be demonstrated in order to secure project bid and surety bonds should be proof enough that a firm has the financial capability to complete the advertised project. Marilyn Grabowski and Nancy Damato have recently been recognized as leading Women Entrepreneurs and Business Owners in New Jersey. Marilyn Grabowski, who established Atlantic Infrared in 2002, has been recognized as one of New Jersey Monthly’s Top 25 Leading Women Entrepreneurs for 2014. Nancy Damato, partner in RDA Benefits, has been selected as one of the top 150 Leading Women Entrepreneurs and Business Owners in New Jersey for 2014. Judgment criteria for this award included: Innovation, Market Potential, Community Involvement and Advocacy for Women. These women are being featured in the October 2014 issue of NJ Monthly magazine. Governor Christie Signs UTCA’s Financial Statements Bill An important UTCA legislative measure (A-1794/ S-1048) that will protect a company’s private financial information and its ability to take part in the bidding process at the county and municipal level, was signed into law by Governor Chris Christie on September 10, 2014. The new law is P.L. 2014, Chapter 52 which will take effect immediately and shall be applicable to proposals for bids advertised on or after the first day of the next month following the date of enactment, which will be October 1, 2014. .
