WOW WESTPAC OUTSTANDING WOMEN AWARDS 2014

WOW
WESTPAC OUTSTANDING WOMEN
AWARDS 2014
A message from Westpac PNG’s
Managing Director
The Westpac Outstanding
Women Awards help us
celebrate one of our key goals
as a business at Westpac Papua
New Guinea by highlighting the
significant role women play in
our communities and making
women count.
The Westpac Outstanding
Women Awards highlight
outstanding achievements made by women, and in turn
provide opportunities to further help them in their career
aspirations. The Awards recognise and reward exceptional
achievements made by women in the private sector, the
public sector, in entrepreneurism and the community, as
well as achievements made by young women.
I am proud to launch the eighth year of the awards and,
still being in my first year in Papua New Guinea, it has
given me a time to reflect on how we can better support
the women leaders and future women leaders of this
amazing country.
Making women count
As we endeavour to increase the profile of women in PNG,
we see the nominees, finalists and winners of these awards
are the cornerstone of our country and the future leaders
of PNG. They are role models for other women and girls.
They are contributors to the development of Papua New
Guinea and its many cultures.
It’s extremely important that their work is recognised
and that we all give them our support to help them on in
their journey.
These awards recognise and support these women in
our country who do outstanding things by calling out
their achievements, supporting their goals and
providing an education grant to help them with their
professional aspirations.
We want to help foster the next generation of leaders by
providing women with the tools and opportunities needed
to help them succeed on the world stage. After all, PNG
is fast becoming a global player in a number of fields, not
just our natural resources.
Now that we’ve developed a credible and long-lasting
history of recognising achievements made by women in
PNG, we can look back with pride on what the Awards
have done for this country and its women. We can see
that past winners have moved on to bigger and better
things, and have either already achieved, or are on their
way to achieving their goals. We applaud them for their
leadership, their tenacity and their hard work.
Nominate an outstanding woman you know
Do you know a woman who’s made outstanding
achievements in the program’s award categories?
Or are you one of these women yourself? If so, I strongly
encourage you to nominate them, or even yourself, so
the efforts of these incredible women can be recognised,
and they can gain the tremendous benefits this award
program offers.
On behalf of the sponsors of the 2014 Westpac
Outstanding Women Awards, I wish all nominees the
very best of luck.
Best regards,
Geoff Toone
Managing Director
Westpac Bank PNG Ltd
The K5,000 education grant to winners are given aims to
provide ongoing support for our winners to help them
achieve their dreams and career goals. In doing so, they
contribute to the building of our country, something
Westpac is proud to have participated in since we opened
our first branch in Port Moresby in 1910.

Judging process
Judging panel
The judging panel is made up of two senior representatives from Westpac, senior representatives from each of the
platinum sponsors and a senior representative of the community. Judges will be given guidelines to help assess your
nomination form.
Judges are looking for:
• Relevant, specific and informative responses to the questions
• Concrete examples that truly demonstrate a good understanding and outstanding achievements in each component
such as leadership, community involvement and governance
• Adherence to the word limit for each response
• Relevant supporting materials, if necessary.
All questions are designed to help give the judges an idea who you are, what you’ve achieved, the behaviours you’ve
exhibited to achieve these and the outcome of your work. It is important that you provide strong examples that
demonstrate your achievements or philosophies. It is advised that nominees don’t just write about the subject matter –
they must include information about their role and how they contributed or what they personally achieved. Responses
should mention if other people contributed or participated in the activities and/or achievements. Judges are looking for a
well-rounded nominee that has addressed each criteria in a succinct and impactful manner. Winners may be chosen based
on a combination of elements, not just one specific component of their nomination form or their interview skills.
Nominees should be able to demonstrate
• Drive and commitment to their area of interest/work
• Leadership at work, social or community spheres
• Role modelling abilities and consultative approach, if applicable
• Strong sense of vision and goals
• Good work/life balance
• Interest in community involvement activities
• Their contribution to the outcome or activity.
What is the judging process?
Preliminary judging: The panel of judges completes the preliminary judging. The purpose of the preliminary judging
is to screen all applicants and to select finalists from each category.
Final judging: The purpose of the final judging is to select the winner for each category and the overall winner.
The winners will be announced during the presentation dinner on Wednesday, 15 October 2014.
