FALL 2014 Oklahoma Statewide Listings Resource for Dental Care A Guide to Free and Low-Cost Dental Care A message to those in need of care Individuals requesting this guide typically have two issues – a dental problem that cannot be ignored combined with scarce financial resources. A guide with a purpose This guide is published by the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Oral Health Foundation to: 1.Help those who cannot afford dental care find free and low-cost resources 2.Help referral sources assist those in need to find care 3.Connect free and low-cost programs to one another to leverage their limited resources and multiply their efforts and results Join our Email list The best way to stay current is to join our email list. Each quarter we’ll automatically email a new issue to you. To subscribe, go to www.ResourceForDentalCare.org. A message to our providers Thank you for your efforts to serve those in need! Please review your listing and notify us of any changes so we can update it in our next issue. Did you know our Foundation provides grants to dental health related programs that meet our criteria? Learn more at www.DDOKFoundation.org. To ensure the accuracy of these listings, this document expires Dec. 31, 2014. For the latest version, go to www.ResourceForDentalCare.org or call 405-607-4747. Published quarterly by: Delta Dental of Oklahoma Oral Health Foundation 16 NW 63rd Street Oklahoma City, OK 73116 OKC Metro: 405-607-4771 Toll Free: 800-522-0188 ext. 771 E-mail: [email protected] Web: www.DDOKFoundation.org www.facebook.com/DDOKFoundation The providers listed in this directory care about you and your situation, and they do all they can (given limited resources) to meet the tremendous need for free and low-cost dental services throughout Oklahoma. There are two types of clinics/programs listed – free and low-cost. If you have some financial means, the nonprofit low-cost clinics provide dental services at lower than average or sliding scale fees and the waiting period for an appointment is short. Free clinics and programs provide services at no cost and are made possible by volunteer dental professionals and support staff. As you can well imagine, the demand for these services is great, but the supply of volunteers is limited. Patience and perseverance are keys to receiving care, because most have long waiting periods for restorative services (such as dentures and fillings). However, every effort is made to provide timely care to those in pain and at risk for infection. Calling more than one organization and becoming familiar with their processes will increase your likelihood for treatment. We sincerely hope this directory helps you find the benevolent dental care you need. Other options available for those in need Did you know that SoonerCare covers all routine and diagnostic dental costs for qualifying Oklahoma children? For information, see the SoonerCare listing in the Statewide section of this guide. If you’re employed but your employer doesn’t provide dental insurance, you may find Delta Dental’s Patient Direct discount program, PPO–Choice Advantage or PPO–Point of Service programs to be a good option for you. For details, call 405-607-2100 (OKC Metro) or 800-522-0188 (Toll Free) or visit www. DeltaDentalOK.org. Copyright 2014 Delta Dental of Oklahoma. Back to School with a Healthy Smile is a program created by the ODA to provide elementary school children with the opportunity to receive free dental screenings from participating volunteer dentists one week each September. In addition to the many dentists who opened their offices to provide free screenings to the children in their communities, volunteer dentists onboard MobileSmiles provided screenings at schools in Lawton, Chickasha, Norman, Oklahoma City and Stillwater. Delta Dental’s Captain Supertooth joined MobileSmiles for the back-toschool tour to get kids excited about taking care of their teeth. MobileSmiles Oklahoma is a partnership program of the Oklahoma Dental Foundation and the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Oral Health Foundation that utilizes two RV-style dental units to deliver dental care and education statewide to those who otherwise cannot access the services they need. For more information or to volunteer, visit www.MobileSmilesOK.org. Captain Supertooth is a costumed superhero that travels throughout Oklahoma to conduct live presentations inspiring kids to be superheroes of their own oral wellness. Funded entirely by the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Oral Health Foundation, the program is offered free of charge to all Oklahoma elementary schools. For details, visit www.CaptainSupertooth.com. 1 Epicenter Fall 2014 Oral Health Foundation Receives Award The Oklahoma Public Health Association has awarded its 2014 Special Business Award of Excellence in Public Health to the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Oral Health Foundation for significant achievement in the initiative and advancement of public health. The Foundation was recognized for its part in making possible the Oklahoma Mission of Mercy, an annual two-day free dental clinic event it produces along with the Oklahoma Dental Association and Oklahoma Dental Foundation. Foundation Director Terrisa Singleton accepted the public health award from Oklahoma Commissioner of Health Terry Cline at the OPHA annual conference in May. Oklahoma Mission of Mercy Returns to Tulsa In 2010, the very first Oklahoma Mission of Mercy served patients in Tulsa. In 2015, OkMOM will return to the city where it all began February 6 and 7. Volunteer registration will open on October 15, 2014 at www.okmom.org. There is a limited number of room available at a special OkMOM rate at The DoubleTree in Tulsa, so reserve your hotel room as soon as possible. Volunteer dental professionals serving patients at OkMOM Tulsa in 2010. Good Shepherd Clinic Celebrates Expansion Good Shepherd Medical and Dental Clinic located at 222 NW 12th Street in downtown Oklahoma City celebrated the renovation and expansion of its facility with an Open House on September 25th. With the help of a major grant from the Butterfield Foundation, the dental clinic has been completely renovated and is staffed with the equivalence of one full-time dentist, two dental assistants, and one hygienist. Their services are multiplied through the work of volunteer dentists, dental students, and hygiene students. Delta Dental of Oklahoma’s support of Good Shepherd extends back to 2002, when it became the very first free clinic to receive a grant from the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Oral Health Foundation. Jeanie Bath, DDS, became the dental director for Good Shepherd earlier this year. 2 www.DDOKFoundation.org Roberts Honored for Distinguished Service Mary Maine Roberts of Tulsa was selected by the Oklahoma Dental Hygienist Association to receive the 2014 Delta Dental Distinguished Service Award for a Dental Hygienist. Roberts, a hygienist for more than 30 years, has a long-standing relationship with Catholic Charities, where she volunteers once a month and assists in recruiting other volunteer hygienists. She also volunteers at local preschools to provide oral health education. Her past volunteerism includes serving at Neighbor for Neighbor, every Oklahoma Mission of Mercy and much more.
