Invitational where 24 bands from around Colorado and New Mexico
schools will compete at Douglas County High School. This event will start

America’s military veterans from 11:00-12:30 at 4th & Wilcox St.
Presented by the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce, the Castle Rock
“Lighting of the Star” has been a community event shared by residents
dating back to 1935. The same spirit of volunteerism, generosity and love
of tradition exists today as Castle Rock businesses and residents prepare
to celebrate Starlighting downtown on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
This year’s celebration will again include: carriage rides, hot chocolate,
non proﬁt booths, live entertainment and of course Santa will be present for
photos and visits. Don’t forget to enjoy the Rink at the Rock, an outdoor
ice skating rink in downtown Castle Rock as well.
Families in Castle Rock and Douglas County can get free and low-cost
health education and screenings at the Second Annual Rotary Family
9Health Fair October 5 at Castle Rock Adventist Hospital in the Meadows. The screenings, ranging from oral, to hearing, to blood count and
chemistry, blood pressure, PSA, breast and others will be available at the
Fair from 7 a.m. to noon. There will be a Family Wellness Activity Center

Winter is on the way, which means the number of abused
and neglected horses coming to the Harmony Equine Center,
located in Franktown, will be increasing. The Dumb Friends
League is seeking volunteers who can muck stalls, feed the
horses and provide these wonderful animals with loving care
until they ﬁnd new homes. The Harmony Equine Center is a
private rehabilitation and adoption facility for horses, ponies,
donkeys and mules that have been removed from owners’
care by law enforcement authorities. Adoption days are every
