Have you wondered why the pews in churches
across the country seem emptier and emptier
each year? Could it be that the people who
are currently in the pews might be a part of the
reason and, ultimately, have the ability to turn
things around?
Join a small group this fall and be a part of the
conversation around these questions! We will
be reading Why Nobody Wants to Go to Church
Anymore by Thom and Joani Schultz over a
seven week period, beginning on October 5.
Those who have participated in small groups in
the past will tell you that it’s a great way to grow
in your faith and to build relationships with others
in our faith community.
Sign up today in Hyson Hall for a group below.

Trinity Goes
Landfill Free!
Have you noticed the new Sustainable
Waste Solutions trash dumpsters near the
playground?
Trinity has recently implemented an environmental sustainability program with the objective
of becoming landfill-free. All of the waste
SWS removes from our facility is either reused,
recycled or processed as a renewable fuel
at an energy-from-waste facility. There is no
significant increase in waste collection charges
for SWS's service. This collection requires
some changes in how waste around our
campus is collected. Posters near trash bins
situated around the building have notices about
sorting our trash. Please see a staff member if
you have questions. Special thanks to Denny
Smith for his faith-filled research and efforts in
moving Trinity's operations forward in an
environmentally sensitive fashion.

CODE BLUE SHELTER UPDATE
Did you know that Trinity has a Code Blue shelter on our campus?
We offer safe and warm respite for homeless men in our area on
nights when Montgomery County calls a Code Blue alert. This alert is
issued when the air temperature or combination of air temp plus wind
chill reaches 20 degrees or lower. The first floor of Luther Hall becomes a temporary home for our brothers in need. Guests are able to
stay in the shelter from 8:00pm until 8:00am the next day. We have
three shifts available for serving:
Opening: 7:30 pm – midnight
Overnight: midnight – 6:00 am
Breakfast/Cleanup: 6:00-8:00 am
How can you help?
Pray for both our guests and those who serve to keep the shelter open.
Sign up to serve at the shelter and/or help to spread the word about its existence and
location. Sign up in Hyson Hall on Sundays and Wednesdays or by contacting Karen
Strobel at [email protected]. The new registration form will be on the website in
October.
Educate yourself about homelessness to help dispel the myths about folks who are
homeless.
Donate items used regularly by our shelter guests such as waterproof winter gloves,
hand/feet warmers, bus tokens, bottled water, individually wrapped snacks, new men’s
underwear (all sizes needed except XXL), new or gently used sweatpants and sweatshirts and monetary donations are always welcome.
All items can be placed in the blue bin marked “Code Blue” in the main lobby. Any monetary
donations can be placed in the offering plate marked “Code Blue” or dropped off in the church
office anytime.
How do I sign up to help?
If you are age 18 or older, you are able to serve at the shelter. Registration forms will
be available in Hyson Hall on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings during
FEAST. Once you have filled out a registration form, you will be invited to attend a
training/orientation session. We will have various sessions to accommodate everyone’s schedules. Once you have been trained, you can sign up to serve using our
online scheduling program. Thank you for considering serving in this manner. If you
have any questions, please contact Karen Strobel at [email protected] or

invite you to the most informative 12 hours you do not want to
miss. Are you looking for a way to reach out in ministry? Are
you looking at what goes on in your community and realize
you have no idea of what is actually happening? Then I ask
you to reach out of your comfort zone and witness what others quietly experience every day.

Manna on Main Street is in need of
volunteers to fill a number of spots for the
successful operation of servicing the
people in need in the North Penn School
District.
There are so many memorable
moments. Volunteering at Manna is like
switching camera lenses; you see the
world so differently. Clients are no longer
statistics, but individuals with families
and varied backgrounds. It's so inspiring
to see that everyone who walks through
the door is treated with respect, as an
equal. When you see this in action,
each moment becomes memorable, a
combination of struggle, connections,
hope, and change.
For those disciples of Trinity who are
looking to utilize their special individual
gifts, this is an opportunity to fulfill this
desire. For as little as two hours a week
you can touch our neighbors’ lives. To
meet state requirements, it is necessary
for all of their volunteers to attend a brief
orientation class before serving. Spend
an hour learning about their operation,
and you are ready to sign up for whatever service you prefer. These orientation
classes are scheduled on a regular basis
to fit into your busy schedules. Just visit
www.MannaOnMain.org to find out more
about this great service organization in
our community and how to "give your
time" effectively.

JOIN OUR CHRISTMAS
INGATHERING EVENT
In a few short weeks the holiday season will
begin, and the Social Ministry Committee
would like to invite you to be a part of our
annual Christmas Ingathering to brighten
up the holiday of someone who is less
fortunate. Please stop at our table in Hyson
Hall on Sunday morning, November 2, to
receive the name of a child or adult in need of
our giving. We have contacted the agencies
involved to get names and gift ideas for all the
individuals. These suggestions and instructions on how to prepare the gifts will be
provided to you. This year, if you are not able
to get a name on the 2nd, the church office
will have untaken names or items that the
agencies have given us to supply in the
event that new children or adults arrive in the
weeks before Christmas.
PLEASE REMEMBER, the gifts are due back
to Hyson Hall no later than noon on Sunday,
November 30, to be sorted, packed up, and
delivered to the various agencies. If you will
not be at church on that Sunday, you may
leave your gift at the office before the 30th.
Thank you in advance for your generosity!
The Social Ministry Committee
Did you remember Trinity in your will?
A gift in your Will is one of the most valuable
and lasting ways you can leave a legacy and
support the mission and ministry within your

Co-Coordinator
This position serves as a liaison to
Manna on Main Street. The CROP Walk
Co-Coordinator is responsible for
advertising the CROP Walk in all Trinity’s
publications and also posting flyers for the
CROP Walk. In addition to flyers, signup
sheets are needed in Hyson Hall and the
Church office. Trinity will need to be

the setup of the CROP Walk the morning
of the walk, and to have Hyson Hall set up
for refreshments that are available after the
CROP Walk. A complete list of responsibilities is available in the church office.
This position is shared with a

more details at 215-368-1710 or

The Archive Committee is
now able to share the history
of Trinity in two display cases
located in the (lobby) behind the Welcome
Desk. We hope you have the opportunity to
enjoy the display! We are looking for
members of Trinity that would like to join us
on the Archive Committee. There are many
opportunities, which include creating
displays, organizing and sorting pictures,
scanning documents, and much more.
We would also like to encourage other
committees at Trinity to display their items
on a rotating basis. What a great way to
look for new members for your committee by
sharing your past! If you have any questions,

W EEK
As a means of recognizing the witness of exemplary Christians throughout
church history, Evangelical Lutheran Worship includes many commemorations
which may be observed in corporate worship as well as in personal devotions.
Saturday, October 18, 2014-Luke, Evangelist
Identified as the author of both Luke and Acts, Luke was careful to place the
events of Jesus' life in their social and religious contexts. His gospel gives us
some of the most beloved parables, as well as the songs of Zechariah, Mary, the angels, and
Simeon.
Thursday, October 23-James of Jerusalem, martyr, died around 62
One of three early-church leaders named James, this man is identified in the New Testament
and by a historian of the time as a brother of Jesus. Scholars are uncertain whether this means a
blood brother. He was a leader of the church in Jerusalem.
