ASP 2015 ADULT LEADERS
Our initial sign-up period for next summer has
closed. We know that it’s very early to plan
so far ahead, but we are locked into the
schedule as presented by the ASP home office. Currently we have what amounts to 4
and ½ teams of youth. We are still looking for
some adult leaders to join us so that we can
take all the youth who want to go. We don’t
want to leave ANYONE home!
Adult leaders must be a minimum of 25 years
old. If you have ever considered joining our
ASP family, this is the year to do it. This is
our THIRTY YEAR anniversary. You can
make it a great success by signing up for the
trip, June 27 to July 5. No specific talents or
skills are needed. Only YOU are needed.
Please contact either Sara Heil
215 723-7498, [email protected],
or Karen Wenhold 215 264-7042,

ANNUAL COAT DRIVE
This is a reminder that Sarah Circle will be holding
our annual coat drive for the children of Patterson
School in Philadelphia on November 1, 2, and 9th in
Hyson Hall. Last year with your generous support,
we provided 400 coats, hats and gloves to help the
children of Patterson who otherwise would not have
warm coats for this winter.
The cost of a coat, hat and gloves will be $25.00
this year and we hope you will all support this
worthy mission of Sarah Circle. The children and
parents are always so thankful for our help. We
have been doing this project for many years and
hope to continue for many more.

The members of the Circle have been purchasing
the coats and gloves and many hands have been
knitting the hats for us. We will be selling the coats
on Saturday evening service on November 1st and
Sunday November 2nd and November 9th. Please
join us at the WELCA table to purchase your items.
If you like to shop, we also have bags available for
you to take and purchase a coat yourself and return
it to us for delivery.
Hope to see you all in November. Some ideas to
think about – skip a dinner out and purchase a coat,
purchase a coat in honor or memory of a loved one,
have your child pick out a coat and use it as a
teaching moment. I am sure there are many more
ideas we can all think about with a donation to help
a child in need.

distributing Thanksgiving Dinner baskets to less fortunate neighbors in our
community in late November. Churches
in our area will be supplying food items
for the baskets. Trinity disciples are
asked to contribute boxes of stuffing
mix and boxes of quick breads or

place your donated items in the white
food bins in the lobby or in Hyson Hall
by Sunday, November 16. If you would
like to give a monetary donation, please
put your gift in an envelope marked
“Thanksgiving Baskets” and place it in
the offering plate. Your check should be
made payable to “Manna on Main
Street.” Trinity’s Social Ministry committee thanks you for helping our neighbors
to have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Meal Delivery
Receiving a home cooked meal after a
hospitalization can be a godsend. Can you
give in this manner? Prepare a meal and
then deliver to one of our disciples just
discharged from the hospital. If you have
a gift with Mercy, Hospitality or
Encouragement, we need you! Please
contact Janet Frederick at 215-393-7528
for more information on this ministry.

clean cans to church and leave them on the
shelf just inside the kitchen door or drop them

year. So, if you have any…bring them in, too!
Are you not able to bake but would like to contribute? Contact Cricket (610-715-5438) about
making a donation to help offset the cost of the
baking supplies for the 8,000 or so cookies that
we bake here at church for the Shoppe!
Want to come bake at church? Dates for
evenings and weekends will be listed in The
Weekly starting in a couple of weeks.
Need a good cookie recipe to bake at home.
Call Cricket and we'll share a recipe!

A CROP Walk Thank You!
Last Sunday, approximately 150 people walked in the 36th Annual North Penn/
Lansdale CROP Walk. Trinity had 25 walkers, and a couple of four-legged friends.
Thanks to all the volunteers, walkers, and those who financially supported our
efforts. A special thanks to Amy, Gary and Jenna Toth for taking the role of CROP
Walk Coordinators. We will report final numbers once they are available in a few
months from Manna on Main Street. Thank you, Trinity, for helping those hungry
in our neighborhood and worldwide.
CODE BLUE SHELTER UPDATE
Did you know that Trinity has a Code Blue shelter on our campus? We offer safe and warm
respite for homeless men in our area on nights when Montgomery County calls a Code Blue alert.
This alert is issued when the air temperature or combination of air temp plus wind chill reaches 20
degrees or lower. The first floor of Luther Hall becomes a temporary home for our brothers in need.
Guests are able to stay in the shelter from 8:00pm until 8:00am the next day. We have three shifts
available for serving:
Opening: 7:30 pm – midnight Overnight: midnight – 6:00 am Breakfast/Cleanup: 6:00-8:00 am
How can you help?
Pray for both our guests and those who serve to keep the shelter open.
Sign up to serve at the shelter and/or help to spread the word about its existence and
location. Sign up in Hyson Hall on Sundays and Wednesdays or by contacting Karen
Strobel at [email protected]. The new registration form will be on the website in October.
Educate yourself about homelessness to help dispel the myths about folks who are
homeless.
Donate items used regularly by our shelter guests. Waterproof winter gloves, hand/feet
warmers, bus tokens, bottled water, individually wrapped snacks, new men’s underwear (all
sizes needed except XXL), new or gently used sweatpants and sweatshirts and monetary
donations are always welcome.
All items can be placed in the blue bin marked “Code Blue” in the main lobby. Any monetary donations can be placed in the offering plate marked “Code Blue” or dropped off in the church office anytime.
How do I sign up to help?
If you are age 18 or older, you are able to serve at the shelter. Registration forms will be
available in Hyson Hall on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings during FEAST.
Once you have filled out a registration form, you will be invited to attend a training/
orientation session. We will have various sessions to accommodate everyone’s schedules.
Once you have been trained, you can sign up to serve using our online scheduling program. Thank you for considering serving in this manner. If you have any questions,
please contact Karen Strobel at [email protected] or 267-784-3054.

Partnership with AM Kulp
Trinity is excited to
announce we are
partnering with
nearby A.M. Kulp
Elementary School
in Hatfield. As part of
our outreach we will
be helping with
Thanksgiving
baskets for Kulp families. We are asking
Trinity members to donate frozen turkeys or
a $25 Giant gift card that can be purchased
at the WELCA table on Sunday mornings.
Frozen turkeys can be dropped off in the
kitchen on Sunday mornings. Donations
need to be received by November 16th. For
more information, please contact Jennifer
Willison at [email protected].
Manna on Main Street is in need of
volunteers to fill a number of spots for the
successful operation of servicing the
people in need in the North Penn School
District.
For those disciples of Trinity who are
looking to utilize their special individual
gifts, this is an opportunity to fulfill this
desire. For as little as two hours a week
you can touch our neighbors’ lives. To
meet state requirements, it is necessary
for all of their volunteers to attend a brief
orientation class before serving. Spend
an hour learning about their operation,
and you are ready to sign up for whatever service you prefer. These orientation
classes are scheduled on a regular basis
to fit into your busy schedules. Just visit
www.MannaOnMain.org to find out more
about this great service organization in
our community and how to "give your
time" effectively.

JOIN OUR CHRISTMAS
INGATHERING EVENT
In a few short weeks the holiday season will
begin, and the Social Ministry Committee
would like to invite you to be a part of our
annual Christmas Ingathering to brighten
the holiday of someone who is less
fortunate. Please stop at our table in Hyson
Hall on Sunday morning, November 2, to
receive the name of a child or adult in need of
our giving. We have contacted the agencies
involved to get names and gift ideas for all the
individuals. These suggestions and instructions on how to prepare the gifts will be
provided to you. This year, if you are not able
to get a name on the 2nd, the church office
will have untaken names or items that the
agencies have given us to supply in the
event that new children or adults arrive in the
weeks before Christmas.
PLEASE REMEMBER, the gifts are due back
to Hyson Hall no later than noon on Sunday,
November 30, to be sorted, packed up, and
delivered to the various agencies. If you will
not be at church on that Sunday, you may
leave your gift at the office before the 30th.
Thank you in advance for your generosity!

C OMMEMORATIONS
FOR THE
W EEK
As a means of recognizing the witness of exemplary Christians throughout church history,
Evangelical Lutheran Worship includes many commemorations which may be observed in
corporate worship as well as in personal devotions.
Sunday, October 26, 2014-Philipp Nicolai, died 1608; Johann Heermann,
died 1647; Paul Gerhardt, died 1676; hymn writers-These great hymn writers
all worked in seventeenth-century Germany in times of war and plague. Nicolai, a pastor, lost 1,300
parishioners to plague, 170 in one week. He wrote "O Morning Star, how fair and bright" and "Wake,
awake, for night is flying." Heermann's hymns, including "Ah, holy Jesus," often express the emotions
of faith. Gerhardt, perhaps the greatest Lutheran hymn writer, was a pastor in Berlin.
Tuesday, October 28-Simon and Jude, Apostles-We know little about these apostles. Simon is
listed as "the zealot" or Cananean in New Testament lists. Jude, also called Thaddeus, asked Jesus
at the last supper why he had revealed himself to the disciples but not to the world.
Friday, October 31-Reformation Day-By the end of the seventeenth century, many Lutheran churches celebrated a festival commemorating Martin Luther's posting of the Ninety-five Theses, a summary
of abuses in the church of his time. At the heart of the reform movement was the gospel, the good
news that it is by grace through faith that we are justified and set free.
Saturday, November 1-All Saints Day-The custom of commemorating all of the saints of the church
on a single day goes back at least to the third century. All Saints Day celebrates the baptized people
of God, living and dead, who make up the body of Christ. On this day or the following Sunday, many
congregations will remember the faithful who have died during the past year.
