Fall 2014
PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
I recently attended a conference and was reminded that our core values are the foundation of
everything we build. The world around us changes constantly, the tools we rely on are constantly
evolving, but the values by which we live should be rock solid. One of the experts shared that the
world as we know it between birth and age 15 is “the way the world is”, the inventions which take
place between age 16 and 35 are “ingenious inventions”, and changes which take place after age 36
are “just evil incarnate.” This experiential time stamp obviously affects our generational perspectives.
What are the core values on which U$X FCU (originally the Carnegie-Illinois Steel General Office
Employees FCU) was founded and has been built?
Doing the right thing for the member, the members, and the field of membership
Providing a rewarding experience to each member we serve
Improving the financial life of each person we meet
Making decisions locally to help each member we can
Teaching members to manage their financial futures and achieve success
Maintain the security of Capital strength
How do we deliver our value proposition to the members?
Value based products that serve our members delivered conveniently
Innovation to deliver service when, where and by the method members prefer
Hire people filled with compassion and the ability to communicate solutions to members
Dedicated, professional volunteers who cast vision and oversee credit union strategic
direction
Managing risk to minimize adverse consequences from economic and environmental
changes
Given that the world in which we grew up affects our perspective regarding the world around us,
what decision model might serve you best? I would suggest that you select a business partner that
has your values and your best interest at heart. What feature do you value most? Price, Quality,
Service, Quantity, Thrift, Family, Establishing strategic value for the next generation. U$X FCU
tries to deliver each of these things.
Consider your options when approaching any financial decision. While you may occasionally find a
better price, in all probability you will forgo one or more of the core values U$X FCU delivers. Make
your decisions based on core values to position yourself strategically for the future.
My continued thanks for the privilege of serving you.
Best Regards,
David R. Ackerman
President/CEO

A Nominating Committee appointed by

Celebrate International Credit Union Day
with U$X Federal Credit Union®
Local Service. Global Good.
On October 16, 2014, credit unions around the world will
celebrate International Credit Union (ICU) Day®. That’s
200+ million people … from 56,000 credit unions … in
101 countries joining together to celebrate their cooperative
spirit.
Globally, this cooperative spirit has led to life-changing
opportunities in the form of small business start-ups, home
ownership, and education. In some countries, members encounter their first taste of democratic decision-making
through their member-owned credit unions.
This year, credit unions have been present during the most tumultuous moments around the world. Throughout
the crisis in Ukraine, credit union volunteers were among the protesters in Kiev and are now attempting to
maintain financial stability for their members. With the help of the World Council of Credit Unions, which is
supported by credit unions in the U.S., Ukrainian credit unions are working on ways to ensure loans can be made
to those who need it, and upholding the confidence of their members.
On the other side of the globe, credit unions in the Philippines are dealing with the devastation left after the
recent typhoon. With the help of credit union organizations around the world, they are now rebuilding and
renovating affected branches to better fit members’ needs. After such destruction, these Filipino credit unions
are helping people get back on their feet. And credit unions worldwide are providing the basis for development
while serving local communities, with an unwavering belief in the “people helping people” philosophy upon
which we were built.
Locally, as a member of U$X Federal Credit Union, you and your financial stability are our top priorities. We
invite you, our members, to take advantage of ALL U$X FCU’s products and services to meet your banking
and borrowing needs with our member friendly, low-priced services. Globally, you’re part of a much bigger
movement—the credit union movement—working towards global good each and every day. That’s definitely
something to celebrate!
In honor of International Credit Union Day our staff will be treating members to refreshments throughout the
week of October 13th. Everyone that visits our offices during the week will be entered into a random drawing
to win a VISA gift card.*
Come celebrate with us!
*No purchase necessary. Open to U$X FCU members that visit our offices only. The gift card drawing is scheduled for the
afternoon of Friday, October 17, 2014. Winner need not be present and will be contacted by credit union staff.
