Nagios Log Server – Adding Additional Instances To Cluster The Industry Standard in IT Infrastructure Monitoring Purpose This document describes how to manually install Nagios Log Server from source, and join it to a preexisting cluster. These directions assume that you are using a current and supported version of RHEL or CENTOS. Nagios Log Server is supported only on RHEL and CentOS Linux servers. Target Audience This document is written for administrators who are looking to add additional instances to a Nagios Log Server cluster from source, rather than using a pre-configured virtual machine image. Shell Access These instructions require you to have shell access to the server you plan to install Nagios Log Server on. You will need to login to your server as the root user to perform an installation. Items Needed You will need to have on hand the IP address or host name of an existing instance in the cluster as well as the cluster ID which can be found under Administration > Cluster Status from any existing instance in the cluster. Install Nagios Log Server Next, install Nagios Log Server from source by issuing the following commands at the shell prompt: cd /tmp wget http://assets.nagios.com/downloads/nagios-log-server/nagioslogserver-latest.tar.gz tar xzf nagioslogserver-latest.tar.gz cd nagioslogserver ./fullinstall Nagios Log Server should now be installed on your system. Box 8154 Int'l: +1 651-204-9102 Saint Paul, MN 55108 Fax: +1 651-204-9103 USA Web: www.nagios.com Email: [email protected] Page 1 Copyright © 2010-2014 Nagios Enterprises, LLC Revision 1.0 – Nagios Log Server – Adding Additional Instances To Cluster Once you navigate to the URL of your new Nagios Log Server instance you will see a page like this: As mentioned before you will need the IP address or hostname of an existing instance in your cluster and the Cluster ID which is located in your current installation of Nagios Log Server under Administration > Cluster Status as shown in the example below. As you can see above the Cluster ID is located next to the Cluster Status panel on the top of the Cluster Status page. Once you get the ID all you need for the 'Hostname' section is a valid hostname or the IP address of the server you used to look up the Cluster ID. Once you have entered the required information, click Finish Installation, and this new instance should now be hooked into your Nagios Log Server cluster.
