SHELLEY PRIMARY SCHOOL Our vision, as a community, is to inspire a passion for learning. NEWSLETTER WEBSITE: www.shelleyps.wa.edu.au 15 October 2014 Phone: 9354 5233 EMAILING: School Admin: [email protected] Absences Only: [email protected] Principal Patter……. Hello Shelley Families … Welcome back to a very busy Term Four! I trust you all had an enjoyable break including the bonus extra day this term due to a planned Staff Development Day. Staff were busy over the last two days analysing our NAPLAN data to include priority areas for improvement into our new school plan. The plan is due to be presented to the School Council for ratification at their next meeting and will then be formally presented to our school community at the upcoming scheduled public P&C/School Council meeting. Our thoughts and sincere condolences go out to our Year One teacher Ms Jade-Marie Robinson with the passing of her much-loved mother after a period of illness. Ms Robinson will be on a short period of leave this week and will return to work next Monday. I will be on leave this week but look forward to seeing you all next week. All parents, family and friends are most welcome to attend STUDENTS NOT RETURNING IN 2015 Parents please inform the school in writing (email, note) as soon as possible if your child is not returning to Shelley in 2015. We need accurate numbers to assist with budget preparation. TERM PLANNER Term 4 planner has been put on the website. Be aware that this can change, usually due to unforeseen circumstances, so please ensure you read the newsletter for updates. VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS Thank you to the many parents who have paid their 2014 Voluntary Contributions. This amount of $50.00 per child for a year makes an enormous difference to our capacity to provide the quality of educational experience you want your child to receive and we want to deliver. In Western Australia, government schools don’t charge fees like private schools and so we rely on this small amount per child to complement the school grant we receive each year to run our school. Each small amount makes one large amount and that is what makes the difference. At Shelley we are very fortunate that our families realise this and consequently a large percentage of families have paid. If you have forgotten, please don’t be embarrassed or think it is too late. We will gratefully receive them at any time of the year. Currently our average collection rate across the school stands at 77.15%. This is lower than we have seen for some time. In previous years we have been close to 90%. Payment can be made by calling into the school office, sending a cheque or cash with your child. Credit card and EFTPOS facilities are available. LATE NOTES Please be aware that a “blue note” from the office is required for any child to be admitted into a classroom after the 8:45am siren. Parents should come to the office first to write in the “late book” and collect a blue note prior to taking their child to class (including Kindergarten and Pre Primary). CHANGE OF DETAILS Please remember to inform the office in writing of any changes to addresses, current phone numbers, mobile, work, home and emergency contact numbers, so your contact details are kept up to date. In the event of sickness or an emergency, it is important that you can be contacted. BOOKCLUB ISSUE 7 – DUE 24 OCT Issue 7 brochures have been distributed. These orders are due back to the school office by: FRIDAY 24 OCTOBER. Parents are encouraged to use the on-line payment system. Thank you for supporting the bookclubs which has seen lots of free books placed into the library. Please take the time to ensure that your child’s name and room number are written legibly on the order form. ROSSMOYNE SHS NEWSLETTERS FOR YEAR 6 & 7 STUDENTS Rossmoyne SHS newsletters for students entering Year 7 or Year 8 next year are published on our website under “Notes”. Parents are urged to look at these newsletters and contact Rossmoyne SHS for any clarification or further information. SHELLEY PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER A reminder to all participants that items for the newsletter should be received BY MONDAY morning. The Newsletter is mostly put together on Monday so it would be really appreciated if those that wish something to appear in the newsletter could plan with this in mind. Any item for the newsletter should be fully composed and addressed to [email protected] please with the subject as “SPS Newsletter Item”. Thank you for your cooperation. ROAD SAFETY REMINDER: SPEEDING IN SCHOOL ZONES Hitting a vehicle or object at 50 km/h is equivalent to dropping a car from a three-storey building. This shows the importance of travelling at 40 kilometres an hour when driving in school zones. The Road Safety Council and School Drug Education and Road Aware are urging schools to remind their local communities to slow down and travel at safe speeds when dropping off and picking up children from school. CANTEEN CORNER SEE NEW SUMMER MENU BELOW We hope you all enjoyed a break from the routine over the holidays. Please look out for our new summer menu attached below and it is also available on the school website. Make sure you throw out the old one, to avoid confusion. We are offering some delicious new items and some old favourites. Maybe your child would like to try the veggie pastie for lunch on Friday, or cucumber sticks with salsa at recess. We handed out some samples of the new veggie savoury jaffles last term and they were a big hit. Chicken Burritos were so popular on our recent Mexican Day that we have decided to add them to the menu every Wednesday. There is also a return of an old favourite: spaghetti and cheese jaffles! We are planning to run specials from time to time, so look out for details in the newsletter and on the blackboard outside the canteen. As a reminder: recess orders for Kindy and Pre-Primary children will be delivered to their classrooms. All other children need to collect their recess orders from the canteen window at recess. All lunch orders are delivered to the classrooms.
