From the Principal’s Desk Dear Parents, Caregivers & Students IMPORTANT DATES* As another busy week nears its end, it is a great opportunity to reflect on some of the highlights this week has brought. THURSDAY 6th NOVEMBER Instrumental Music Assembly 2.15pm Tuesday’s Science Fair was a wonderful occasion. Students from Years One to Six were invited to participate and, with more than fifty displays, it has been the most popular Science Fair yet. One couldn’t help but be impressed with the careful planning and creating of the displays, but nothing could surpass the outstanding way students’ could explain their particular project and the science that was demonstrated. Congratulations to all participants for their efforts and thank you to Miss Klatt and Mrs Bolton for assisting the children and to all the parents who came along to enjoy the afternoon. Today’s assembly will be another occasion for our children to share their talents. Assembly will commence at 2.15pm and students of Louise Lloyd, private music teacher, will be showcasing their musical talents and expertise. We ask for your help to live by the Mercy values that we hold dear. Holy Spirit, we ask you to guide us to act more justly to strive for excellence to be generous in your service to show compassion and to be examples of your mercy Guided by St Columba, let us grow in faith seek wisdom and live in peace. The Bendigo Bank is renowned for their commitment to community projects. St Columba's School has been chosen as the lucky recipient of a $1500 grant from the Bayswater/Noranda Community Bank branches. This money will be used to purchase and install a cargo climbing net in the early childhood playground which will be perfect for developing our students' upper body strength and coordination. We extend an enormous thank you to the Bendigo branches for their generosity and commitment to supporting the local community. Our School Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday, 25th November, commencing at 6.30pm, in the Sister Irena Library. Parents are encouraged to consider how they could be of service to the school by nominating to participate on either the P&F or School Board. Nominations close on Friday 21st November. Attached to the newsletter are the details of the school’s Annual General Meeting and nomination forms for the P&F Committee and School Board in 2015. Executive positions for both the School Board and P&F will be chosen by the elected Board and P&F members after the AGM. I look forward to seeing you there. I would like to once again commend families for their attention to newsletter requests regarding afternoon pick up at the kiss and drive and Milne Street gate. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated and, although it is very busy at this time, your willingness to do a turn around the block has made a significant impact on reducing traffic congestion. Today we had a visit from a parent, whose children attend Bayswater Primary School, regarding the difficulty she has navigating her baby’s pram past cars which are parked across the footpath. On several occasions she has had to take the pram onto the road as she couldn’t use the footpath. Please be considerate of our neighbours. I would also like to mention the importance of supervising younger children when dropping off or collecting students at school. Please ensure that your young children are kept safe as the stairs, lower playgrounds and ECE playground, while perfect for our students, can pose potential hazards for toddlers. We are currently in the process of finalising 2015 class numbers and need to know, in writing, by the COB 14th November, if your child (children) will not be returning in 2015. The school’s email address is [email protected]. Parents of students in Year 6 do not need to advise the school they will not be returning in 2015. Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead and remember … “Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.” (Desmond Tutu) St Columba, pray for us Catherine McAuley, pray for us Amen God Bless Megan Dwyer Ne P a gws e let 3 t er Newsletter T e r m 4 , Pa I s sge u e3 3 4 New Flip Lid Lunchboxes Open up Flip Lid for sandwich and snack compartments…..Flip it over and open it up again for fruit, drink and more snacks!
