This show is recognized by the SWVHJA. Every class offered herein which is covered by the rules
and specifications of the current SWVHJA rule book will be conducted and judged in accordance
herewith.
Exhibitors do not have to be members of SWVHJA to participate in Hunter divisons and
non-recognized classes, however must be members to participate in Medal and recognized equitation classes. In order to be eligible for year end awards and have points accumulate in recognized divisions, exhibitor and horse will need to be SWVHJA members.
New membership forms will be available the day of the show.
All Participants must wear ASTM/SEI-approved hard hat while mounted.
A negative coggins within 12 months of the show date is required before numbers will be issued.
Mill Creek Farm, officials, staff, and volunteers will not be held responsible for any accident, loss injury to any animal, rider or spectator on the grounds. The decisions of the
Judge are final.
Pleasure Hunter– Open to all. No martingales allowed. Judged on animal’s suitability as a pleasure mount. May be asked to halt and back.
Beginner Equitation– Open to those in their first year of showing over fences on horses or
ponies. Fences 2’. Judged on riders position, control and guidance.
Hopeful Hunter– Open to all. Fences 2’3”. Judged on performance, manners and way of going
Intermediate Hunter– Open to anyone in their first or second year of showing on horses or ponies
EXCLUDING Beginner Equitation Division. Fences 2’3”. Once a rider shows over fences set at
2’6’ or higher, they are no longer eligible for the Intermediate Hunter Division in subsequent years.
Judged on Performance, manners and way of going. The rider may not jump higher than 2’6” at the
same show.
Small/Medium Pony Hunter– Open to ponies ridden by juniors. Ponies shown in this division
may not be shown by an adult in any recognized division at the same horse show. Judged on performance, manners and way of going. Small ponies (Not to exceed 12.2h) to jump 2’, medium
ponies (12.2h– not to exceed 13.2h) to jump 2’3”. S/M and Large Ponies must be offered split,
however if less than three entries in either, they may be combined . Lines less than 72’ must be set
on appropriate distances.
Large Pony Hunter– Open to ponies ridden by juniors. Ponies shown in this division may not be
shown by an adult in any recognized division at the same horse show. Judged on performance,
manners and way of going. Large ponies (13.2h-not to exceed 14.2h) to jump 2’6”. S/M and Large
ponies must be offered split, however if less than three entries in either, they may be combined.
Lines less than 72’ must be set on appropriate distances.
SWVHJA Pony Medal– Open to current junior members of SWVHJA mounted on ponies. To be
shown over a minimum of 6 jumps at the appropriate heights. A minimum of six riders, if available, must be called back to work on the flat. Martingales may not be used in the flat phase. Each
phase to count 50%. The same pony must be used for both phases. Four entries required to fill the
class with a minimum of three to complete the first course. If no Pony Medal is offered, a rider
may compete on a pony in the Hunter Seat Medal. A rider cannot compete in both the Pony and the
Hunter Seat Medals at the same show, nor can they participate in both finals in one year.
Special Adult Hunter– Open to Adult Amateur riders mounted on horses or ponies. Fences to be
2’6” or 2’9”. Both heights must be offered and judged together. Related distances between two
jumps should be no less than 60’ (4 strides). Judged on performance, manners, and way of going.
Horse/Rider combination cannot compete over fences higher than 2’9” at the same show. Ponies
shown by adults may not be shown in Pony Hunter division at the same show. May be combined
with Special Childrens Division if fewer than 3 entries in either division.
Special Children’s Hunter– Same specs as Special Adult Hunter, except open to Junior Riders.
Ponies ridden by juniors may show in Pony Hunters at same show.

Randolph College Medal-Open to junior and adult amateur riders mounted on horses or ponies
who have not qualified for a SWVHJA medal class or the Oak Ridge Medal during the current
show year. Class to consist of 2 phases judged 50% each. Over fences will be the first phase, and
will consist of not less than 8 fences at 2’6” and may not contain a combination. The course must
contain 2 changes of direction after the first fence. The second phase will be ridden on the flat at a
walk, trot and canter both directions in the ring. Judge may choose from USEF tests 1-10. Martingales will be permitted in the flat phase, and the same horse/pony must be used for both phases.

Green Hunter– Open to horses only in their first or second year showing over fences of any
height at any show. Fences 2’6” or 3’. Both heights must be offered and judged together. To be
eligible for Green Hunter status horses may not have shown in more than three shows over fences
at any show and never at a height greater than 2’3”.

Low Hunter– Open to horses and ponies. Judged on performance, manners, and way of going.
Fences 3’.
Adult Amateur Hunter– Open to adult amateur riders mounted on horses or ponies. To be
judged on performance, manners, and way of going. Ponies shown by an adult may not be shown
in the Pony Hunter Division at the same horse show. Fences 3’. May be combined with Children’s
Hunter if there are fewer than 3 entries in either.
Children’s Hunter– Open to juniors mounted on horses. To be judged on performance, manners
and way of going. Fences 3’. Management may combine this division with Adult Amateur Hunter
division if there are fewer than 3 entries in either.
SWVHJA Hunter Seat Medal– Open to members of SWVHJA who have not reached their 18th
birthday as of Dec. 1st of the calendar year. To be shown over a course of fences not to exceed 3’,
including two changes of direction, a combination, and at least 3 oxers. A minimum of 6 riders, if
available, must be called back to work on the flat. Martingales may not be used in the flat phase.
Each phase counts as 50%. The same horse must be used for both phases. Four entries are required
to fill the class with a minimum of three to complete the 1st course. If there are fewer than four
entries this class can be combined with the Adult Medal.
SWVHJA Adult Medal– Same specs as for the SWVHJA Hunter Seat Medal , except open to
amateur riders 18 years of age and older. Ponies may be ridden by adults, but may not be shown in
the Pony Hunter division at the same horse show. If there are fewer than four entries this class can
be combined with the Hunter Seat Medal.
Junior Equitation on the Flat 15-17 – Open to junior riders who have reached their 15th birthday
as of Dec. 1st of the calendar year, but not reached their 18th birthday as of Dec. 1st of the calendar year. To be shown W/T/C both directions of the ring. Judged on position, control and guidance.
USEF tests 1-19 may be used, excluded those requiring work over fences. Three entries required to
fill the class. Riders need not be SWVHJA members to compete. If less than 3 entries, this class
may be combined with Jr. Equitation. on the flat 14 & under and/or Adult Equitation on the flat.
Junior Equitation on the Flat 14 & Under– Open to riders who have not reached their 15th
birthday as of Dec. 1st of the calendar year. Same specs as JR Eq. 15-17. If less than 3 entries may
be combined with Jr. Eq.on the flat 15-17 and/or Adult Eq.
Adult Equitation on the Flat– Open to amateurs 18 years of age or older. Same Specs as Junior
Eq. classes. If Less than 3 entries, this class may be combined with Junior Eq. classes.
Bareback Walk, Trot, Canter– To be judged on rider’s position, control and guidance using only
a bridle.
Pairs Walk, Trot– To be judged on riders’ ability to have horses perform in unison, side by side.
In case of tie, similarity of mounts will be considered.
This trophy will be offered from this date forward, at our Fall Horse
Show to the Adult Amateur or Junior Rider who accumulates the most
points in all divisions during the horse show. The current holder will be
asked to return the trophy at, or before, the show the following year so that
we can award it again to continue to honor Caryn’s memory and keep her
spirit ever present at our shows. Caryn was an important part of our barn
family, and her bubbly, positive spirit and zest for life is something we will
miss for many years to come. We are quite sure that if you listen close you
will hear her cheering from ringside, leading the MCF riot crew in their applause and support for the exhibitors!
