Set in a safe and attractive environment, away from main roads, the College is five minutes’ drive from the city’s Central Business District. Originally established in 1890 at Murtoa, Victoria, Concordia moved to its present Highgate site in 1905, operating under the South Australian District Synod of the Lutheran Church of Australia. It has developed into a highly respected Christian co-educational secondary college in Adelaide that operates as a member of the Lutheran Schools Association in SA/NT and WA Concordia College works very closely with St John’s Lutheran School, Highgate. A single School Council has governance responsibilities for both schools and Council subcommittees oversee Governance, Education, Property, Spiritual Life and Finance at both schools. A memorandum of understanding with St John’s Lutheran Church Unley has been developed. The College offers the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) in Years 7-10 and the South Australian Certificate (SACE) and IB Diploma Programme in Years 11 and 12. The IB Primary Years Programme operates at St John’s Lutheran School. All these curriculum frameworks promote student-centred learning and the development of independent learning skills designed to equip young people with life-long qualities that extend beyond the classroom into the community. Many school organised service activities support this process. The ongoing development of Middle and Senior Schooling and the continuing exploration of new ways to use digital technologies in support of student learning are important components of the Strategic Plan of the College. Since the beginning of the 2012 school year, all students have had their own laptop. Current enrolment is approximately 860 students from Years 7 – 12. The Assistant Head of Senior School will assist and work closely with the Head of Senior School to facilitate and implement practices and procedures which support students in their learning and wider education and development. The Assistant Head of Senior School will communicate a passion for education and demonstrate a deep understanding of Senior School students. The personal attributes of the Assistant Head of Senior School will include strong interpersonal skills, empathy and collegiality. Experience and knowledge of data collection and analysis will be a significant advantage in this role. An understanding of how Senior School pedagogy impacts on a timetable would also be an advantage. The position description specifies that the Assistant Head of Senior School will teach in the Senior School and work with a Home Class in the Pastoral Care Program in the Senior School. The appointment is offered for an initial tenure of three years commencing at the beginning of Term 1, 2015. Extension of tenure may be granted subject to a satisfactory performance review. Release time to fulfil the requirements of the position will be approximately 0.4 FTE. Remuneration will be based on Band 1 plus 8 leadership points according to the Lutheran Schools SA Enterprise Agreement.
