God, Creator of all that is help us to recognize that everything -- all that
we are, all that we have, each and every day --- is a gift from you, and
the only faithful response to a gift is gratitude and generosity. We pray,
Lord, free your people.
God, Giver of Life, you desire that all your sons and daughters have what
is needed to live a dignified life. Prompt us with the uncomfortable
reminder that some of our brothers and sisters suffer and die simply
because they have no food, and give us the holy determination to turn
their tears into joy. We pray,
Lord, free your people.
God of mercy and compassion, we who are made in your image, make us
merciful and compassionate like you, so that all may see your love in us
and so that our love might renew the face of the earth.
Lord, free your people.
Jesus, Son of God and Savior, redeem us to be a people who bring life and
light to the world. Refashion our lives so that all who struggle and suffer
in this world
find in us a home and heart for their cry for mercy.
We pray,
Lord, free your people.
Jesus, Brother and Messiah, you seek the redemption of all that is --- our
lives, our families, our cities, our world. Inspire our churches, our
workplaces and our government to serve, not oppress; to bring life, not to
take life; to be instruments
of your mercy. We pray,
C:
P:
Lord, free your people.
God of Love and Salvation, save us. Save us from both empty bellies and
empty hearts. Save us all from both the horror of anyone starving and
from the hell of our not caring for those who suffer. We pray,
C:
Lord, free your people.
P:
God of Miracle and Grace, kindle in us an enthusiasm for your Gospel
which
drives us into the adventure of compassion and justice. Let
us not
be satisfied until all people can pray gratitude for daily bread. We
pray,
C:
Lord, free your people.
Silence is kept for reflection.
P:
Generous and faithful God,
C:
we confess to you all the ways, known and unknown, that we reject
and undermine your steadfast love. Though you made us your people,
we treat strangers with suspicion. Though you forgave our debts, we
collect without mercy. Yet we are quick to pass judgment on others.
Have mercy on us, O God, and remember your promise to us, for the
sake of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
P:
The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand
forever. Through the living Word, + Jesus Christ, God forgives your
every debt, your every sin, and gives you a new heart and a new spirit.
C:
Amen.

"Christ Be Beside Me"
Wasson/arr. Kingsbury
(Saint Mark Choir; Kay Mitchell, oboe)
TEXT: Christ be beside me, Christ be before me, Christ be behind me,
King of my heart. Christ be within me, Christ be below me, Christ be
above me, never to part. Christ on my right hand, Christ on my left
hand, Christ all around me, shield in the strife. Christ in my sleeping,
Christ in my sitting, Christ in my rising, light of my life. Christ be in
all hearts thinking about me, Christ be on all tongues telling of me,
Christ be the vision in eyes that see me; in ears that hear me, Christ ever
be. (adapted from St. Patrick's Breastplate, 8th century)

APOSTLES CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
And born of the virgin Mary.

Was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day he rose again.
ELW – No. 686
He ascended into heaven,
And is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

The forgiveness of sins,
The resurrection of the body,
And the life everlasting. Amen.

P:
Lift up your hearts.
C:
We lift them to the Lord.
P:
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
C:
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
PREFACE
P:
It is indeed right to give you our thanks and praise, O God,
for you love justice and strengthen the upright,
and you have shown us your goodness.
You are the living and true God who created all things
and whose voice sets the earth shaking.
You rescued a people from slavery
and promised your presence to go with them.
To Moses you revealed your glory
and through your prophets you made known your justice.
In your child, Jesus, you have come to us in person,
teaching us your ways in sincerity and truth.
In him we have learned to give to you all that is yours —
the work of faith, the labor of love, and a steadfast hope.
Though his enemies put him to death,
you raised him from the dead
and through the power of his gospel in the Holy Spirit
you have given us mercy and rest.
Therefore with angels and archangels, saints and sinners, high
voices from the sky, deep voices from the sea, and the whole
company of creation, we proclaim your presence among us.
HOLY, HOLY, HOLY
P
In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and
gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat;
this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to
drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you
and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance
of me.
With this bread and cup we remember our Lord’s passover from death to
life as we proclaim the mystery of faith:
C:
Christ has Died,
Christ has Risen,
Christ will come again.
LORD'S PRAYER
C
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours,
now and forever. Amen
