Municipal Election
NOTICE TO ALL VOTERS
Please be advised that if you are not already on the voters list and do
not have voter identification, you will not be permitted to vote.
All eligible voters are required to produce voter identification.
Thank you.
Town Clerk/Returning Officer
(905) 771-2529
APPOINTING A VOTING PROXY
THE CLERK’S OFFICE IS OPEN FOR ISSUING VOTING PROXIES ON
ALL ADVANCE POLL DATES.
If, for any reason, an eligible elector is unable to vote on voting day
or at one of the seven (7) advance polls, they may appoint someone
to cast a ballot on their behalf. This person is called your voting
proxy.
To appoint a voting proxy, you and the person you want to appoint
must fill out the Appointment for Voting Proxy Form (Form 3). You
must know who you want to appoint as your proxy when you fill out
the form. The person you want to appoint must be eligible to vote in
the election, and should be someone you trust to mark the ballot the
way you have instructed them to.
A proxy must be someone who is an eligible elector in the Town of
Richmond Hill. A person may act as a voting proxy for one person
who is not a family member or any/all of their immediate family
members. Immediate family members are your spouse, sibling,
parent, child, grandparent and grandchild.
Additional information respecting proxy voting and a list of advance
voting dates, times and locations is available at RichmondHill.ca or
by contacting the Clerk’s Office at 905-771-8800.
ACCESSIBLE VOTING
All voting locations that will be used in the upcoming Municipal
Election will be accessible.
Please note that accessible vote tabulator devices will only be
available at Advance Polls to assist voters with disabilities to mark
their ballot independently. There are seven (7) advance poll dates
and nine (9) advance poll voting locations.
Should a voter require the assistance of an interpreter, the elector
must make his or her own arrangements to provide the interpreter.
Candidates and scrutineers will not be permitted to serve as an
interpreter for a voter.
If a voter requires assistance for any reason other than language, the
election staff will be able to provide such assistance.
Please note that if you require the use of accessible voting devices on
Voting Day, October 27, 2014, you will need to make arrangements in
advance through the Office of the Clerk. For additional information
regarding special assistance in the upcoming Municipal Election,
please contact the Clerk at 905-771-2529.

VOTER NOTIFICATION CARDS
Voter notification cards will be mailed in late September to those
electors whose name appears on the voters’ list.
The voter notification cards provide the address at which the elector
is registered; the location, address and hours of the voting location
where you can vote on Voting Day; and the dates, times and
locations of the Advance Polls.
Please note that the package includes voter notices for every
elector on the voters’ list at the address. Please separate the voter
notification cards and provide the electors listed at the address with
their voter notification card.
Please bring your voter notification card with you when you go to
vote as it will speed up the voting process.
You will also need to provide proof of your identity and residence.
The voter notification card provides a list of acceptable voter
identification.
If you do not receive a voter notification card before October 10th, it
may mean that your name is not on the voters’ list. Please contact
905-771-5555 for instructions on how to be added to the voters’ list
if you are an eligible elector in the Town of Richmond Hill.
ADVANCE POLLS DATES, TIMES AND LOCATIONS
Voters will receive a ballot from the Deputy Returning Officer at their
voting location after presenting proof of identity and residence. This
identification must show the person’s name and qualifying address
and can be an original, or a certified or notarial copy, of a document
listed below.
Please note that voters showing up to vote without voter identification
will be required to complete a Declaration of Identify before a ballot
is provided to them.
