Around 25 per cent of the population is still in poverty. The unemployment rate is high at 10 per cent of the labour force. It is obvious that there is something wrong with India’s development strategy as it failed to meet the basic needs of the poor. Most villages do not have access to basic necessities like roads, protected water, housing, health and elementary education. At present, while there is shortage of essentials, there is no shortage of comforts and luxuries. The situation worsened because of growing inequalities in income and wealth. Therefore, it is necessary to discuss the Human Development Index (HDI) and India. ABOUT RAMACHANDRAPURAM Ramachandrapuram is located in East Godavari District in Andhra Pradesh.
