ABOUT THE COLLEGE
THEME OF THE SEMINAR
V.S.M. College, Ramachandrapuram is an aided
institution. It was established by late Vundavilli
Satyanarayana Murthy in 1966 to cater to the educational
needs of the students in and around Ramachandrapuram. It is
one of the premier educational institutions in Andhra
Pradesh. The College had its humble beginning with P.U.C.,
B.A., B.Com., and B.Sc. Courses. It blossomed into a model
educational institution in the State with the introduction of
vocational and restructured courses. After the introduction of
M.A. History in 1974, course after course of study crept into
the campus. Now the College has seven P.G. Courses besides
other U.G. Courses. V.S.M. College of Engineering was
started during the academic year 2009-10.Polytechnic
Diploma Course was introduced in 2011-12. V.S.M. College
was accredited in 2008 and re-accredited in 2014 at ‘B’
Grade by NAAC, Bangalore.
Even a satisfactory rate of growth has failed to
improve the quality of life in most developing countries.
Around 25 per cent of the population is still in poverty. The
unemployment rate is high at 10 per cent of the labour force.
It is obvious that there is something wrong with India’s
development strategy as it failed to meet the basic needs of
the poor. Most villages do not have access to basic
necessities like roads, protected water, housing, health and
elementary education. At present, while there is shortage of
essentials, there is no shortage of comforts and luxuries. The
situation worsened because of growing inequalities in
income and wealth. Therefore, it is necessary to discuss the
Human Development Index (HDI) and India.
