Jäämeren ratayhteydelle haetaan tukea
uudesta kaivoksesta
Ruotsalainen malminetsintäyhtiö Scandinavian Resources valmistelee ehdotusta
uudesta rautakaivoksesta. Lannavaara Iron Project -nimellä kulkeva suunnitelma on
vielä hyvin alkuvaiheessa.
Yhtiö suunnittelee kuljettavansa rautamalmirikastetta Kiirunan Lannavaaraan
rakennettavalta kaivokselta rautatietä pitkin Karesuvannon kautta Skibotniin, jonne yhtiö
suunnittelee rakentavansa terminaalin sekä uuden sataman. Uuden rakennettavan
rataosuuden pituus olisi noin 170 km.
Projekti on alkuvaiheessa ja siitä tullaan laatimaan vaikutustenarvioinnit .
Lannavaara-prokti vaikuttaisi Tunturii-Lapin alueella, Storfjordin kunnassa jaKiirunan
kaupungissa.
– Aiomme saada valmiiksi omat vaikutusarviointimme seuraavien 12 kuukauden aikana ja
esittelemme ne vuoden 2015 aikana, kertoo Damian Hicks, Scandinavian Resources AB:n
toimitusjohtaja.
Neuvotteluja ministeriöiden kanssa
Enontekiön kunnanjohtaja Mikko Kärnä on iloinen suunnitelmista:
– Toteutuessaan Lannavaara olisi erittäin merkittävä koko Suomen kansantaloudelle.
Selvitettävää on kuitenkin vielä paljon: pelkästään mahdollisessa ratalinjauksessa on
huomioitava ympäristövaikutusten lisäksi vaikutukset porotaloudelle.
– Suomi saisi myös vihdoin rautatieyhteyden Jäämerelle, mikäli valtio sitoutuisi
rakentamaan yhdysosuuden Kolarista Karesuvantoon. Aiomme neuvotella asiasta
lähiaikoina ministeriöiden kanssa ja pyrimme todennäköisesti käynnistämään ratahankkeen
maakuntakaavoitusprosessin vielä tämän vuoden puolella, kertoo Kärnä.
Yhtiö selvittää myös mahdollisuutta käyttää veturien polttoaineena nesteytettyä maakaasua
eli LNG:tä.
