What are you thankful for? I am thankful for:
- The day I decided to take my first quilt class. I was hooked instantly!
- I am thankful for the day Cheryl Bond encouraged me to attend a Webster
Quilt Guild meeting. I learned all the guild had to offer and joined at the very
next meeting.
- I am thankful for the generosity of our guild members. Members willingly
donate their time and talent to make baby quilts, blocks for charity, support
philanthropic endeavors and give, give, give.
- For shop hops! The October shop hop was so much fun and I added some
lovely things to my stash.
- Our fellow guilds and clubs. I attended the Irondequoit meeting Monday and
learned a lot about needles and thread. In the future, we will be asking these
organizations to have us to show our opportunity quilts in hopes they purchase
tickets.
- I am thankful for your support during my presidency. So many of you have
stepped up to take leadership and committee roles making my job easier.
- Finally, I am thankful that each of you works to make our guests and new
members feel welcome. Please continue to take a few moments to get to know
our new members.
Thank you goes to Alice Sokolow for stepping in at the last moment and
doing a program on embellishing quilts when our speaker cancelled due to
illness. Her quilts and methods were so inspiring. We are blessed to have her in
our group.
This month please stay and work on baby quilts. There will be fabric and
soup. What more could you ask for!
Finally, I along with Mary Kay will not be at the meeting. When we were
approached about serving in these roles, we told the nominating committee that
we had a trip planned for this month. “No problem you just need to get a
previous officer to step in for you”. Well I discovered lots of folks are away but
Michele Sanderson has graciously said yes. Thank you in advance for giving her
your support during the meeting.

November Meeting – Fran Sienkiewicz
November birthdays please bring a batik fat quarter with your name on it to participate in the birthday drawing.
As we continue on into fall we get ready for the Christmas/Holiday season. So many opportunities to reach out and
make it a little brighter for others. This year our donations will go to Alternative for Battered Women and their
children. They are in need of so much as many leave their homes with not much more than the clothes on their
backs. They would appreciate toys for kids as the moms get an opportunity to "shop" for their children. The need is
also for full size toiletry items to include shampoo, toothpaste, conditioner, brushes, soap, hand lotion and deodorant.
Towels and washcloths are also appreciated. New underwear, robes, flip-flops, and gently used clothing are much
appreciated. You can also check their website at abwrochester.org for more ideas. (Gift wrap and tape!)
The theme for our gathering will be Holly and Poinsettia. A gift exchange among our members is optional. Possibly
a hand-made item such as a mug rug or small sewing notion were some suggestions. The meeting is a luncheon
and begins at 11 am.
In December we will also have a trunk show by Judy Merritt of Cafe Sewciety. She will show her wonderful quilts
along with suggestions on choosing color. We all seem to be able to choose colors but making them "pop" and have
a certain drama that Judy has will be shared!
January will be our demo derby. We will have several of our members sharing their expertise and tricks. They will
be Sandy Buckman on paper piecing, Ann Nash on Japanese stitching, Jill Escriva on Stain Glass window quilt and
Jeanne Wasmuth on Wool Applique. It will be set up as 20-30 minute stations.
The background fabric for our "hands" project was handed out and more is available to anyone who wants to
participate. They can be anything of your choosing--appliqué, embroidery, pieced, painted, and stenciled in any way
you choose. The hands are meant as a symbol of welcoming, reaching out to others, hard working, prayerful,
creative or whatever you want it to say about YOU. They can be completed as a finished square and returned to the
maker or they can just be a block that will be made into a quilt and donated to Ireland. (or a place of our choosing?)
They will be displayed at our quilt show in May. So be creative! The blocks are 10 1/2 squares and available from
Fran Sienkiewicz. (PS If you do paint or stencil your block please be sure to heat set it!)
Our Mystery Quilt instructions are handed out at each meeting. There are a couple of extra easy and challenge
patterns available. Just let Fran know if you would like to participate. This month you can earn extra quilt bucks by
using a handmade purse. Just snuck that in to be sure you are reading the newsletter. There will be a sign in sheet
for those who participate.
Extra Sit and Sews are scheduled so please check the calendar. They are a fun way to get some help on a project
that has been hidden away and needs completion!
Gail Korneilsen has offered to take care of our ruler exchange program. If you have a ruler--hopefully with the
directions that you would like to donate please give it to her. If you have one you would like to "loan" please put your
name, phone number and a copy of the type of ruler (with its function) on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper. It will be kept
in a binder for others to "borrow" from you.
The coupon books for members is available to all paid members. There are some very nice coupons available for
use throughout the year. A BIG thank you to Jeanne Wasmuth for doing this for us.
At this month's meeting we will be working on baby quilts. There will be material available and patterns as shown by
Diane Weisskopf and Ruth Arthur. They were so cute! So bring a sewing machine, an iron, ironing board, cutting
materials and/or creativity! (no one needs to bring everything--bring whatever.) Plan on staying after the meeting.
Soup will be available.
One final note. As many of you know our speaker had to cancel last month due to a back injury. (be careful lifting
sewing machines into trunks!) I really want to thank Alice Sokolow for putting on her trunk show on embellished
quilts. All who were present learned so much and were challenged by Alice to be creative. (Stepping Out of the Box-sound familiar??) Thank you so much, Alice!

Trick of Treat Trail Mix - Recipe from Kate
Rowland
I made the recipe as it was printed, however, I feel
it easily can be modified to your tastes and the
season as well. For instance, it calls for a lot of
pretzels, I don’t truly love pretzels, so next time, I’d
substitute some sort of cereal, and so on, but to
each their own!

Thank You – Michele Sanderson
Hi quilters,
This has been the most wonderful journey with this quilt. It
has really touch me how many people help to do this project.
Thank you ! I am blessed to be around such great people.
I want to send out a Big Thank You to everyone who came
and sew on Pink Quilt day. Debbie Lester ,Fran Sienkiewicz,
Paula Melino, Stephanie Lux, Jennifer Martin, Beth Allen and we
had a quilter from the Breast Cancer Coalition come as well Mary
Jo Deichmiller. Thank you for taking time out of your busy lives
to come help sew quilts today. We got 9 tops made today. We
had a wonderful time we had very yummy snacks thank you to
everyone who brought some that was very nice of you. Everyone
went home with some wonderful door prizes as well.
We pulled the winner of the Power of Pink quilt today. The
winner was Cathy Catcagno from W. Irondequoit. She was very
surprised and honored to win the quilt. She and her daughter do
the Mother’s Day walk every year and her sister is battling
cancer for the third time so she is going to give the quilt to her.
The quilt raised $865 to be donated to the Breast Cancer
Coalition of Rochester.
Thank you to everyone who help with making the blocks
and to Rita Hruschak. Debby Zeman Jennifer Martin, Gretchen
Stumme and Fran Sienkiewicz for helping to sell tickets.
Thank you Café Sewciety(Judy Merritt and Debbie Lester)
for helping to sell tickets at the shop and displaying the quilt,
along with donating some of the fabric for the quilt as well.
Also like to thank the Webster Farmer's Market for allowing
us to come down and sell raffle tickets they donate the cost of the
space and waived all the fees for us to be there. and the Breast
Cancer Coalition of Rochester for letting us come and sell tickets
at their Preregistration Mother's day walk. They are such a nice
and sincere group of ladies and organization.
and one last thank you to Marie Bostwick who wrote such
touching and heartfelt book that inspired this whole great idea.
Thank you so much,
Michele Sanderson
1 bag medium pretzels
1 can dry roasted peanuts
1 box Ritz mini peanut butter bits
1 stick real butter
1 cup light Karo syrup
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking soda
1 pkg autumn colors M & M’s
1 pkg Candy Corn or Autumn Mix
Directions
On a greased cookie sheet (I used a large
rectangular roasting pan with deeper sides to
make the stirring easier) spread out pretzels,
peanuts and peanut butter Ritz. Melt butter, syrup
and sugar on stove top, I used a non-stick pan.
With candy thermometer, heat until 250 degrees.
Quickly add vanilla and baking soda, will foam up!
Pour sugar mixture over pretzel, peanut and
cracker mixture, stir to coat all. Place in a 250
oven for 55 – 60 minutes – I did stir two or three
times. Remove to wax paper and break apart.
Will harden quickly, so move as fast as you can to
break up the clumps. When cooled add to large
bowl and add candy corn and M&Ms. (I added the
candies while still warm, hoping that they would
adhere to the mix and not just all fall to the bottom
of the bowl – it was fine with the candy corn, but
the M&M’s got too warm and split open, and made
it a bit messier).
Earning Quilt Bucks – Fran Sienkiewicz
Many of you are new so I wanted to have a list on how to earn bucks.
First of all you have to let Dale Bajer know. She is happy to give

get to know one another better. Rosemary also noted that there was a change in today's program. The guest speaker, Laura Little, had
