WINTER SUBSCRIPTION SEASON
Each year, Campden Music organises a
series of subscription concerts in the
beautiful setting and fine acoustics of St
James’ Church, Chipping Campden. You
can enjoy all six concerts for just £60.
Admission to concerts
To enjoy Campden Music concerts simply
complete and return the Membership
Form at the back of this brochure. If you
are not already a member, you are most
welcome to come to a ‘taster’ concert
either as a guest of a member or as a
guest of the society – contact details
below. We do not charge admission but
suggest guests make a donation of at
least £15. Those in full time education
are admitted free of charge. Members
are encouraged to bring potential new
members and occasional visitors to the
area as guests.
We are very grateful to the many
members who make an extra donation to
our funds. This makes a significant addition
to our income. Please tick the Gift Aid
declaration if you are a UK tax payer. This
will allow us to claim the tax you have
paid on the amount of your subscription
and donation. It will not increase the cost
of your membership and will not commit
you to any future payments to Campden
Music.
All payments will be acknowledged if you
send us your email address or an SAE.
Membership Enquiries:
Christmas concert
Each year, the Christmas concert is very
well attended and so admission is by
ticket only. Each member is allowed one
ticket free of charge plus additional tickets
for guests for a donation of £15 each. We
start by issuing tickets for reserved seats
in the central nave. When these have all
gone, the remaining tickets will be for
unreserved seats in the side aisles. Please
list your requirements on the form at the
back of this brochure and book early!
Tickets will be available to non-members
at all the concerts during the autumn and
will be advertised to the general public
in December. Pre-booked tickets can be
collected at the October and November
concerts.

NOTE: Concerts in Campden will start at 7.30pm. Doors open 7pm
A warm welcome to our fifty fourth
season of concerts in the lovely setting of
St. James’ Church. Richard Stephens is to
be congratulated on providing a superb
array of fine musicians which make up
an attractive and varied programme of
concerts to delight us through the winter
months.
We welcome Roger Davies as our new
Treasurer, and say a huge ‘thank you’ to
retiring committee members, Joan Holden,
Mike Sporton and Mike Clifford who have
contributed much over many years.
Sadly, and despite many requests and
approaches to members, we have been
unable to fill the vacant post of Visits’
Secretary, and for this season at least,
there will not be organised visits to
Birmingham. In common with many other
organisations in Campden, it appears
increasingly difficult to find individuals
who will fulfil such roles. The search will
continue!
neighbours to join us. The membership
income remains fundamental to our ability
to continue to bring superb musicians to
Campden.
The Society is most fortunate to receive
the continued support from a number of
local businesses through sponsorship and
advertising for which we are most grateful.
Please support them whenever you can.
Please note: The next AGM will
be held on Monday 13th April 2015
at 7.30pm. in the Church Rooms.
The subscription level of £60 for the
six concerts remains unchanged, and I
urge you to subscribe before the first
concert, and encourage your friends and

‘one of those rare quartets where you can
sense the personalities of the individual
players as much as appreciate the common
bond that ties their interpretations together.’
Daily Telegraph
The Dante Quartet, known for its
imaginative programming and the
emotional intensity of its performances,
was founded in 1995 at the International
Musicians Seminar at Prussia Cove,
Cornwall. They chose the name of
Dante to reflect the idea of a great and
challenging journey.
The Quartet plays at major concert halls,
music societies and festivals throughout
the UK and Europe. Since 2007, they
have been quartet-in-residence at
King’s College, Cambridge, where they
give master-classes, and collaborate in
performances with King’s College Choir.
They broadcast regularly on BBC Radio
3 and their CD recordings have attracted
unanimous praise and awards, including a
Diapason d’Or in France for the recording
of Franck and Fauré’s string quartets. Their
most recent CD of Kodály string quartets
was chosen as Chamber Choice in the
BBC Music Magazine in March 2014.

Berkeley
Ensemble
The Berkeley Ensemble takes its name from two
British composers of the last hundred years, father
and son Sir Lennox and Michael Berkeley. It was
formed in 2008 by members of Southbank Sinfonia
with the aim of exploring the wealth of little-known
twentieth- and twenty-first century British chamber
music alongside more established repertoire. It
now enjoys a busy concert schedule performing
throughout the UK and abroad.
The ensemble’s flexible configuration and collaborative
spirit has led to performances with leading musicians
including Sir Thomas Allen, Richard Sisson and Gabriel
Prokofiev. The group was proud to premiere its first
commission, Michael Berkeley’s Clarion Call and Gallop,
in 2013 and features the piece on its debut recording
of the same name, praised by Gramophone for ‘the
vibrancy of the Berkeley Ensemble’s performance.’
The Berkeley Ensemble is building a reputation for
innovative and thought-provoking programming.
Equally at home on the summer festival circuit as
in the concert hall, the group has performed at the
Latitude and Greenbelt festivals.
