A Passion for The Kingdom of God Mark 12:28-34 34 When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.”(Mark 12:34) What a fascinating statement ……”You are not far from the kingdom of God.” Bishop Bruce Rabon State Administrative Bishop Kentucky Church of God State Executive Offices 3500 Versailles Road Lexington KY 40510 Phone: 859-252-1793 Website: www.kycog.net Bishop Matthew Propes Youth & Discipleship Director Wanda Rabon State Women’s Discipleship President Jennifer Propes Girls Ministries Coordinator State Council Mark Knight Larry Higginbotham Mitchell Tolle Sr. Rick Shelby Michael Knight Henry Montgomery Johnny Dunbar Mark Hisle David Douglas Lindsey Cornett Edwin Lainhart Michael J. One wonders when looking at the Scribe in the Gospel reading….if he lacked something in his understanding of God’s law?.....Or in God’s will?” Perhaps there were too much duty and routine in his life of obedience….and….not enough eagerness….Not enough passion! Perhaps a bit too much self- righteousness…..and not enough compassion ….not enough empathy. Those who study it – can find truth within it; “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” These words came from our Savior…..from the one who bears the kingdom within HIS being. Yet in the words “not far” – it is possible to hear that….there is yet some distance to go”, On the right track – but you have not yet arrived. Have you seen Jesus?........Is your Passion for HIM engrained in your very soul!” Our Lord informs us how to portray that passion “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength – and – you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Only those who have had a genuine encounter with Christ….have the commitment to continue the chase……..Only then can you Passionately …..…Love the Lord your God…….and love your neighbor as yourself. The Theologian and writer C. S. Lewis puts it this way, “The only thing Christianity can’t be …….is moderately important.” Let it never be said of us “you are not far from the kingdom of God” REMEMBER IN PRAYER Adron Wheat’s (Louisville, Harvest) son Bill Tussey, Pastor (Garrett) Larry Moore, Pastor (Mitchellsburg) All retired ministers All ministers’ widows OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY AND PRAYER Family of Marcus Sanders, retired minister Family of Mina Pack, retired minister Family of Rick Hamilton (Catlettsburg), especially his wife (Sharon) and their children Dawn Landon, State Treasurer, at the passing of her father Rev. MIP: Some may look at MIP as just being a part of the process to get another piece of paper to hang on the wall, but I believe it is about developing healthy, equipped and effective Ministers that will have a tremendous impact in the Kingdom of God. The members of the MIP Board are proven leaders with a heart to touch this next generation of ministers. Their passion for souls is evident. We are connected with the interns through social media and are building relationships that will last a lifetime. t’s an exciting time to be in MIP in Kentucky! By: Bishop Rick Shelby, MIP Chairman A map will not help us unless we know where we are on the map and where we want to go. Before we can get to where we're going in fulfilling our purpose, we must first know where we are and where we are going. In essence, the Church of God provides the map by partnering with individuals who apply for CAMS in order to help them fulfill their divine call and place of ministry. Through Social Media, the students of the CAMS fall semester were able to connect and start building relationships before the first class even began. As a result, great excitement surged from the room as the students came together for the first time. To God be all the glory, as CAMS in Kentucky reached a record-breaking semester this fall with thirty-six students, including spouses. By: Bishop Mark Knight, CAMS Co-Coordinator All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16,17 NIV) The 21st Century has opened greater opportunities, as well as greater obstacles, to ministers as we attempt to fulfill God's calling on our lives. In such an atmosphere, CIMS is providing solid foundational training and continued educational resources for our ministers across the USA and around the world. The early church model of teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread and prayer, speaks the necessity of coming together. More information is coming as CIMS prepares another venue. By: Bishop Michael J. Smith, CIMS Administrator Local Leadership Mobilize is a mentoring program that establishes a bond of loyalty and a relationship of cooperation between the pastor and members. It is a pastor’s tool for motivating and training members for spiritual leadership and ministry together. The Biblical foundation for Mobilize is summarized in Romans 12:1-8. In this passage, Paul urges all believers to present their bodies as a living sacrifice to be used by God. Furthermore, he says that every believer has received a charismatic gift (that is, a “gift of grace”) from the Holy Spirit as a member of the body of Christ. By: Bishop David Calvert, Mobilize Coordinator On August 4, 2014, the SpiritLife Church of God located in Louisville launched its new outreach initiative called LOL (Loving Our Louisville). In particular, thisproject targeted the bus drivers that work out of the bus compound at Moore High School. The response was positive in every way. The surprised look of the bus drivers said it all! One of the drivers said, "Thank you for your kind words of appreciation and the useful gifts. I can't remember anyone EVER saying thank you for the job that we do!" Another said, "I've never seen or heard of anything so practical and thoughtful." One man said, "I was just thinking yesterday that I would have to go purchase a new broom for my bus. I won't need to do that now. Thank you!" But, the best response was from one of the veteran drivers who loudly proclaimed, “Shut your mouth!” when told about the gifts! The vice-principal of the school told me, "I wish more churches would involve themselves in the community like this. It makes a huge difference in the selfesteem of our workers!" We launched this project with one, singular purpose; to express in a tangible and practical way the love of Jesus Christ. We invested practical seeds of love; smiles, hand shakes, fist bumps, and even a few hugs... Now, we watch as God turns that seed into harvest!
