This term is packed full of fun and excitement! As you can see by the calendar, we will all be working, learning and playing hard over the next 9 weeks. I trust everyone had a safe and relaxing holiday break, and the start to the term has been just as nice. With a win to the bunnies, who isn’t happy? Rotary Club Leadership Award Congratulations to Saja Z and Callan M who have been nominated for a Rotary Club leadership award. Saja and Callan will be presented with their awards at a dinner on Friday 31 October in front of their families and members of the local community. We are very proud of our students, and Callan and Saja are exemplars of leadership in all aspects of school life. Refund Payment cheques If you happen to have a school cheque that has not been presented at your bank, could you please do so as a matter of importance? We currently have three cheques from 2013 that are still unpresented and one from June this year. It would be great to have all of those “loose ends” tied up before our financial rollover at the end of this month. Milo Cup Cricket Congratulations to our Stage Two cricket team who represented EWPS this week at the Milo Cup competition. Miss Pickrell commented on how amazing the students were in every way and what a pleasure it was to take the team. Thank you to the parents who drove the students to the field; it is with continued parental support that we are able to offer such a wide variety of activities to students. Of course, a big thanks to Miss Pickrell for her leadership of the competition. Kindergarten 2015 Kindergarten Orientation will commence on Monday 5 November. If you have a school aged child who is intending on starting school in 2015, could you please collect an enrolment form from the office? At present we have filled our first class and will need to carefully consider accepting out of areas applicants. Korean Language Classes This term, Miss Kim will join our school team as part of the RFF program. Miss Kim will be teaching Korean to all classes. We are very excited about this initiative and the added benefit to our students. OSHC Tender The tender for the Out of School Hours Care service was awarded to Primary OSHCare, led by Suzanne Blythin. Primary OSHCare will commence their licence on the first day of Term 1, 2015. Existing staff members will be retained where possible. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge Lisa Heys and Nicole Bowman for their efforts since becoming committee members. They have shown great integrity throughout this process. EWOOSH have serviced Ermington West PS for a considerable amount of time, under the management of many parents and community members. Their contributions have been invaluable over this time. Telstra Kids Fund Grant We were successful in gaining a $1200 grant as part of the Telstra Kids Fund grant, thanks to Sandra Carter’s nomination. We will happily use the funds to create a quiet outdoor play area for the students to use. Stay tuned for photos in the upcoming weeks. After School Learning Sessions Thank you to all of the students and parents who have utilised the opportunity to further their learning. There has been overwhelming interest in attending the after school sessions and the students have impressed us all with their commitment to learning. I hope parents of students in Years 3-6 have taken the time to read the learning journals competed by students before and after each session. These sessions will conclude for this year at the end of Week 4, Wednesday 29 October 2014. Progress on capital works and painting The painting of D Block is completed and I am sure you will agree with me that the classrooms have been transformed. The library is still out of action as Mrs Farmer works tirelessly to sort books, stocktake, clean shelves and put everything back together again. The capital works are progressing as planned. I must commend our students on the way they have looked for hazards in the playground and watched the excitement of bulldozers from a distance. Now, more than ever, please stay out of the carpark, whether on foot or in your car, unless you have an official reason to be there. With the money raised we are hoping to purchase new soccer goals for our school’s fields. These goals would not only boost students’ enthusiasm for physical activity and team sports but also benefit our PSSA soccer teams with training. To help raise these funds, Year 6 students will be conducting its annual Year 6 Mini Fete in the school grounds along with a raffle on Thursday 23 October 2014 for the students and parent community of Ermington West to enjoy. Students are able to join in the fun of the Year 6 run stalls by returning their note of participation along with their one-off payment of $5. With this students will be able to unlimitedly participate in 13 stalls and activities. Additionally, there will be 5 stalls and activities ranging from $1-5 on the day. We suggest that your child/ren bring coins rather than notes to help minimise any issues with change for these stalls. Students are to wear their school uniform and bring their own recess and lunch. Lessons will be as normal from 9.00am to 10.30am. Recess will commence early from 10.30am to 11.00am. The Mini Fete will begin at 11.00am and conclude at 1.00pm with all students K-6 under the COLA for any prize winners from the various stalls to be announced and for the raffle to be drawn. Included in this week’s Newsletter is a list of the 14 raffle prizes worth over $1000 which will be drawn at the conclusion of the Mini Fete and a list of the various stalls which will operate on the day. On behalf of the school community I would like to thank the following companies, community groups and families for their generous donations towards the Mini Fete Raffle: DOOLEYS Lidcombe Catholic Club, Koala Park Sanctuary, Ryde Parramatta Golf Club, Australian Museum, Featherdale Wildlife Park, Powerhouse Museum, Parramatta Riverside Theatre, Australian Reptile Park, Australian National Maritime Museum, Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre, Pancakes on the Rocks, Taronga Conservation Society Australia, Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre, the P&C, the Connors family and the Evans family. I would also like to thank all of the families of the students in 6I for their help and support of the stalls that the students have organised this year. Without the support of these families the Mini Fete would not be able to run successfully. The Mini Fete is open to the students and families of Ermington West Public School. Please come along and enjoy the Mini Fete stalls with your child/ren. We look forward to seeing you on Thursday 23 October 2014. If there are any parents who would like to help the students with the stalls on the day please see or send a note indicating your willingness to help on the day. We thank the community in advance for their support of the Year 6 Mini Fete 2014. Miss. S. Isaacs Congratulations to Olivia and Dania for their efforts in raising funds for Juvenile Diabetes through Boot Camp. The girls raised $61.50! Uniform Stocktake Sale We are having a Summer stocktake sale. (see attached). Just to put any questions at bay, the stocktake sale is simply because we have a very large amount of money tied up in the uniform store and we would like to start moving some of it. By reducing the prices, we are hoping that parents will purchase the correct uniform (in particular the shirts with the logos on it). The logo shirt is the actual school shirt and we would like to prevent the different array of yellows in the playground. See all the shirts proudly. P&C AGM Every year at the end of November we hold our P&C Annual General Meeting. This year the AGM will be on the 11th November. We invite parents to come along who may be interested in how the process works, or if you are interested in taking up a position.
