ideas about how people from other cultures operate, focusing
on just one or two elements—such as communica!on or
decision making. Culture is much more complex than we
tend to think. A more accurate picture, involves cogni!ve,
rela!onal, and behavioral differences along the dimensions
where cultural gaps are most common.

computer at work or at home. At the end of the survey’s
25 ques!ons, indicate your own na!onality, and then see

Dan Galindau earned his undergraduate degree from UCLA and
MBA from the University of Southern California, then served four
years in the United States Navy. He enjoyed a 20-year career with
the Hil• Company, a European construc•on materials company
with opera•ons in 80 countries. During this •me he was General
Manager for Hil• South Korea in Seoul for five years, and spent
six years as the Hil• President for Asia Pacific based in Hong Kong,
with responsibili•es for 13 countries in the region. He returned to
the U.S. in 2003, se•ling in Kansas City, where he runs a furniture
import company, and consults with Kansas City companies looking
to enter the Asian market. As a lecturer in the KU School of Business
he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Interna•onal
Management and Cross-Cultural Communica•on. He also spends
3-4 weeks each summer in China teaching a Cross-Cultural business
course to Chinese EMBA students/execu•ves.
