“Setting the Stage”
Formerly known as Maryland Model for School Readiness 2013, this training
has been updated to better reflect the child care providers, children and
families of today’s early care and education communities.

The training consists of five, six hour modules.

The new training modules use scenarios to help child care providers learn to
analyze family situations, distinguish between observations and judgments,
and apply new information to develop a plan for responsive child care.

B. Strama-This class will open the world of nature to participants in ways that
draw from what they are already doing in day-to-day routines. We will discuss
simple ways to help children of all ages enjoy nature.
16-Asthma & Anaphylaxis (HSN) 9:00 am—1:00pm Ste. 129 K. Rowland –
*LIMIT 10 * Advanced course that requires a certificate of successful
completion of the OCC Medication Administration class prior to taking this
course. The disease process of asthma, along with the triggers and course of
action is reviewed. Each form of treatment is discussed in detail. The course
includes hands on with the different asthmatic devices as well as the three
different types of injections for anaphylaxis.

medical emergency, asthma, diabetic, seizure, allergic reaction, stroke,
poisoning, plants, bites, stings, heat, cold, and specific body injuries. Meets
Office of Child Care guidelines. Certification for First Aid expires in two years.
18-CPR 1:00pm-5:00pm Ste. 129 $30 PPM-The American Heart Association
Pediatric CPR program which includes Child CPR, Infant CPR, Child Choking,
Infant Choking. This program also deals with safety issues like home, car, and
playground. Meets Office of Child Care guidelines. Certification for CPR
expires in two years.

Training teaches all aspects of giving medication safely in your center to all ages

Reporting mandates for suspected child abuse or neglect will also be discussed.

difficult to deal with a child that is misbehaving, but some are more challenging
than others. In this session, strategies will be offered to deal with challenging
behaviors.

a normal part of children's lives. However, when conflict is poorly managed it
has a negative impact on children's relationships, on their self-esteem and on
their learning. This workshop provides strategies to use for teaching children
problem solving skills.

Beginnings is a resource tool developed by MSDE that is intended for use by
anyone who lives or works with infants or young children. We are pleased to
offer this training to help caregivers become familiar with the document and
become proficient in its use. The Guidelines can be used as a reference guide,
or as a resource for planning daily or weekly activities. Keep in mind that not all
children develop at the same rate, so the age ranges should be used as
suggestions. Providers can and should plan activities that meet the needs of
each particular child in their care. These trainings will teach you how!

helps you sustain a quality program. Your programs are monitored and regulated
by the Office of Child Care. You are held to a high standard of providing quality
care. This workshop is designed to give you professional strategies to better

1-Emergency & Disaster Preparedness (HSN, P) 9:00am-3:00pm Ste. 129 $30
K. Thomas- Please bring a lunch! -This class is designed for caregivers to
become familiar with COMAR regulations regarding emergency and disaster
preparedness for child care programs. Participants will complete a written
emergency and disaster plan for their child care program; gain an
understanding of disasters that are most likely to occur in Maryland and know
why child care programs should prepare for emergencies and disasters. This
workshop meets the 6-hour COMAR requirement effective July 1, 2010, for
centers, family providers, and family child care applicants.

designed to help participants determine what triggers anger and develop
strategies to keep those triggers from tipping us over the edge. This session
will focus on the communication process as a whole and how positive
communication can be used in managing anger.

class will teach practical tips for dealing with the challenges of potty training.
We will share strategies parents and daycare providers need to make the
transition from diapers to the toilet as easy and stress-free as possible.

6-Pre-Service Mod #1-From Baby Steps to Bigger Steps: What
1-Bridging the Gap Between Home & School (CO) 6:30pm-9:30pm
Ste 112 $25 N. Massey -This class is designed to help participants
understand the concept of building partnerships with families,
discuss barriers to form partnerships and identify strategies for
overcoming barriers and creating effective
partnerships.
$35 K. Salako - This workshop will give participants a better
understanding of components of a family child care curriculum, how
to create a developmentally appropriate curriculum and how to plan
and design a family child care program.
2-Behavior Toolbox (SN) 6:30pm-9:30pm Ste 129 $25 K. ThomasMany caregivers may feel unprepared to deal with challenging
behavior that often interferes with learning or engagement in social
interactions. Join us for this information session and receive
behavior management techniques that work to improve children’s
challenging behaviors.
3-Intro to MD EXCELS (P) 6:30pm-8:30pm Ste 112 $10 S. TwiggThis workshop will give an overview and explain the new professional
initiative launched by MSDE. Additionally, participants will be given
hands-on strategies to help them meet some of the requirements in
this new quality rating system the Sate of Maryland has adopted. A
two hour certificate will be issued.
4-Creating Sociable Children (CD) 6:30pm-9:30pm Ste 129 $25
B. Strama-This course is designed to discuss reasons why children
may be less socialized in today’s society. Discuss barriers to
socialization, learn age appropriate methods and activities to help
students learn manners, social skills and conflict resolution skills.
6-First Aid 8:30am–12:30pm Ste 129 $30 Paramedical PersonnelThis is a nationally recognized program that meets the OSHA
standard for first aid training. Workshop includes: Good Samaritan,
emergency response, triage, patient exam, BSI, bleeding, shock,
burns, strains, sprains, fractures, splinting, spinal injury, medical
emergency, asthma, diabetic, seizure, allergic reaction, stroke,
poisoning, plants, bites, stings, heat, cold, and specific body injuries.
Meets Office of Child Care guidelines. Certification for First Aid
expires in two years.
6-CPR 1:00pm-5:00pm Ste 129 $30 - Paramedical Personnel- The
American Heart Association Pediatric CPR program which includes
Child CPR, Infant CPR, Child Choking, Infant Choking. This program
also deals with safety issues like home, car, and playground. Meets
Office of Child Care guidelines. Certification for CPR expires in two
years.
Makes a Child Grow (CD) 9:00am-1:00pm Ste.129 $35 K. Salako Covers basic child development concepts including stages of child
growth and development,
overview of the leading child theorists
and of learning differences. Register for all 6 modules at once
and pay only $180 for the entire series.

recognize certain signs and symptoms and appropriate ways to care

E. Chapman-We will discover lands-on learning experiences for all
ages. Participants will learn new activities, as well as how to use
interactive games and experiences to promote language development,
problem-solving, reasoning skills and motor development.

children’s behavior and how to use appropriate positive supports to
reduce behavioral challenges and improve social relationships for the
child with special needs.
13--Pre-Service Mod. 3-Keeping Kids Fit & Safe (HSN)
9:00am-1:00pm Ste. 129 $35 J. Chambers -Specific focus of this
class is centered upon components of emergency preparedness, menu
planning, and health & safety concerns of young children.
13-Pre-Service Mod. 4 -Making It Work for All-Exploring
Special Needs (SN) 1:30pm-5:30pm Ste.129 $35 J. Chambers -This
class will include basic information surrounding inclusive child care
settings, ADA requirements in health, behavioral and developmental
issues and concerns.
13-Medication Administration (HSN) 9:00am-3:00pm Ste. 112 $60
K. Rowland Office of Child Care approved Medication Administration
Training teaches all aspects of giving medication safely in your
center to all ages of children. This includes liquids, pills, capsules,
topicals, epi-pens and also general information on inhalers. You will
even learn how to properly wash your hands.

Workshop Registration Information
Workshops are approved for training credit by the MSDE Office of Child Care Credentialing Branch
Registrations. ALL workshop participants must pre-register; meaning, participants must register AND PAY for workshops in advance. Registration is accepted by phone, mail, or in person. The training line for
phone-in registration is operational from 8:30am-3:30pm, Monday through Friday. Visa or Mastercard required for all registrations done by phone. Mail registration form to Child Care Links, Inc., 1101 North Point
Boulevard, Suite 112, Baltimore, MD 21224 Attn: Registration Office. Child Care Links does not accept personal checks .
Fees paid are NON-REFUNDABLE. Should you miss a workshop, credit or transfer to another workshop may be given if Child Care Links is notified prior to the workshop. If after hours, please leave a message
on CCL’s answering service. No credit or refunds are issued for “no shows”. Call 410-288-5942 with any questions or concerns about our refund or credit policies. Any credits issued are good for one year from
date of issue.
Late arrivals. Workshops begin at the stated time. Our instructors reserve the right to refuse admittance to any workshop for any participant arriving 15 minutes or more past the start of the workshop. Credit or
transfer will be issued at the discretion of Child Care Links staff for any participant turned away from training for lateness.
Cancellation and change policy. Child Care Links reserves the right to change the location, class size, or trainer for any class as deemed necessary. Child Care Links also may need to occasionally cancel a workshop due to a lack of enrollment; in this event, a CCL staff member will contact you at the phone number or address you provided upon registration. If we need to cancel a workshop and you do not wish to be transferred to another training, you will be issued credit good for one year or refunded fees paid for the canceled workshop. If you are phoning in your registration please verify that we have the correct contact information, including more than one telephone number where you can be reached.
Rude and/or disrespectful behavior during workshops will not be tolerated. Please remember to exercise good judgment and respect for both the trainer and other participants in your session. It is okay to disagree with facts or opinions presented by the trainer or other participants but please remember to remain professional. Should you violate this policy, the instructor may ask you to leave the workshop and you will not
be re-admitted, nor will you receive a refund for the class.
Certificates. Core of Knowledge certificates will be issued at the conclusion of the training session for all participants who successfully complete all requirements set forth for the course. There will be a $5 charge
for replacement training certificates .
Child care is not provided during workshops. Workshops provided by Child Care Links are intended for adults only. Please make other arrangements for care of your children during workshop hours.
Workshop locations. The majority of workshops are held at the CCL main office, 1101 North Point Boulevard, Suites 112 & 129. Should your workshop be held at an off-site location, you will be notified upon or
at registration of the address and directions.
Inclement Weather Policy. Please note that the training department of Child Care Links follows the Baltimore County Public School Systems inclement weather policy for closings and delayed openings. If you
are scheduled for a workshop and Baltimore County schools close for inclement weather, our workshop will be canceled. During the weekend our workshops will be canceled if Baltimore County goes into Phase
One of their snow emergency plan. If, for any reason, this changes, a CCL staff member will contact you. Attempts will be made to reschedule any canceled workshop.

floor of building 1101 facing Eastpoint Mall. Our main office is on the first floor in Suite 112 (corner office).
