SCRIPTURE
1 Thessalonians 1:1 Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the
Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to
you and peace. 2 We give thanks to God always for you all,
constantly mentioning you in our prayers, 3 remembering before our
God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness
of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. 4 For we know, brethren beloved by
God, that he has chosen you; 5 for our gospel came to you not only in
word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full
conviction. You know what kind of men we proved to be among you
for your sake. 6 And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for
you received the word in much affliction, with joy inspired by the Holy
Spirit; 7 so that you became an example to all the believers in
Macedonia and in Achaia. 8 For not only has the word of the Lord
sounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in
God has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything. 9
For they themselves report concerning us what a welcome we had
among you, and how you turned to God from idols, to serve a living
and true God, 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised
from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.

BELLS OF JOY
Our Bells of Joy handbell choir and Frank Voltz, harpist, will present a
special offering of music today during both first and second services.
In honor of and as thanks to Donna Cartner in her tenth year of
service as director for the New Philadelphia handbell choir, the ringers
commissioned Frank Voltz to write “Gloria!” for harp and handbells.
Frank is a conductor, composer and arranger as well as a performer on
harp, piano and organ, and he played at New Philadelphia earlier with
the handbell choir.
October 19 is the World Premiere of this piece played by handbells
and harp in honor of Donna Cartner, who has directed and taught and
encouraged and challenged the handbell choir to play praising God
and inspiring listeners to worship God since 2005.
Frank said, “My inspiration (for “Gloria!”) came from knowing
Donna Cartner. She is full of love and joy. When the bell choir
approached me about the commission, I suggested an original
composition that I wrote for harp in 2013 called ‘Gloria!’ I had always
heard it in my head with harp and handbells. The commission gave me
the opportunity to create the version for harp and handbells. I think the
audience will hear the love and joy that is so much a part of Donna's
life and personality. It is a happy piece, lots of big chords, lots of
glissandos on the harp, lots of fire, lots of passion, and most of all FUN!” Frank said.
Note: After the WORLD PREMIERE on October 19, Frank plans to submit
“Gloria!” for harp and handbells to Jeffers Handbell Supply in Irmo, SC.
Jeffers (www.handbellworld.com) is the largest retail handbell vendor in the
country. If they accept the submission, it will go into their catalog and churches
all over the country will be able to play it. It will have the inscription that it is
in honor of Donna Cartner and first played by the New Philadelphia Bell
Ringers.

I’m so glad you came to save us

Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at His holy hill: for
the Lord our God is holy.
But who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who
shall stand in His holy place?
Those who have clean hands and pure hearts; those who
have not lifted up their souls unto vanity, nor sworn
deceitfully.
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and
the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us
our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If
anyone sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus
Christ the righteous; and He is the atoning sacrifice for our
sins:
And not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole
world.
Drawing near in full assurance of faith, let us confess our
sins, and present our supplication before the Lord our
God.
Gracious God, You are high and lofty, You inhabit
eternity, Your Name is holy, You dwell in the high and
holy place, but with them also who are of a contrite and
humble spirit. Give us grace to bring You the sacrifice of a
broken and contrite heart, which You, O God, do not
despise.
Hear us, gracious Lord and God.
Lord God, merciful and gracious, long suffering, and
abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for
thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin,
and Who will by no means forgive iniquity and
transgression and sin, and Who will by no means forgive
the unrepentant; incline Your ear and hear; for we do not
offer our supplications before You relying on our own
goodness, but on Your great compassion.
Hear us, gracious Lord and God.
Create in us a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit
within us. Restore unto us the joy of Your salvation; and
uphold us with Your free spirit. Have mercy upon us,
according to Your loving-kindness; according to the
multitude of Your tender mercies, blot out our
transgressions, through Jesus Christ, our Savior.
Lord, have mercy upon us. Amen
Let us pray:
(Kneeling)
Open our eyes, Lord
We want to see Jesus,
To reach out and touch Him,
And say that we love Him.
Open our ears, Lord
And help us to listen.
Open our eyes, Lord
We want to see Jesus.

and your sins will I remember no more. Peace be unto
you.

Christmas will be here soon so the time to plan the decorations for the
church is almost here. Because the attendance of our Children’s and
Christmas Eve Lovefeasts continues to grow, we are planning to expand
our decorations so the Fellowship Hall is as beautiful as our sanctuary.
A colorful and bold “Poinsettia Christmas Tree,” will add immeasurably
to the appearance of our Fellowship Hall during the Advent and
Christmas Season, and then, when the Poinsettias themselves are
distributed, will provide meaningful memories of the season to many.
In the past, donors have designated gifts for specific decorations (wreaths
and poinsettias) in specific locations. This year, a decorating fund has
been established to cover all Advent decorations: wreaths, sanctuary
poinsettias, and new decorations for the Fellowship Hall. You may be a
part of this overall decorating plan through contributions in honor of or
in memory of your loved ones. All gifts will be acknowledged in the
church bulletin on the second Sunday of Advent. What a wonderful time
of year to remember a family member no longer with us or a special
Sunday School teacher or friend you value through your commitment to
the church.
To participate your checks of $20 per memorial/honoree, along with the
form below, should be placed in the offering plate or dropped by the
church office by November 15 in order to be included in the bulletin.
Please designate this money for the Advent Decorations Fund with the
name of your memorial or honoree.
Please note: The weekly altar flowers program will continue normally in
December. See Marcia Hansley or sign up at the bulletin board near the
offices if you want to put flowers on the altar one of the Sunday mornings.
