Dear Parishioners,
Our “Listening Session” for the forthcoming
Diocesan Synod to be held in 2015 is only three
weeks away, Sunday, November 9th. Please mark
your calendar for this important opportunity you will have to
voice your ideas: (1) what is the Holy Spirit calling us to do
to accomplish our mission? (2) God has called His people to
reach out to all. What tools do we need to accomplish this?
and (3) what strengths do we have in our culturally and
geographically unique Diocese to carry out our mission?
Our “mission” will be clearly defined by thoughts shared at
the Synod.
Each parish in our Reno Diocese will have an
allocation of delegates to the Synod based upon our Mass
attendance, we are apportioned a total of 16 delegates.
Starting November 1, parishioners will have the opportunity
to nominate persons to be delegates. In December, the
Pastoral Council will meet and elect by a vote the delegates
from the list of nominees we have received. It would be
possible to nominate yourself as a delegate, if you wish.
There is a Delegate Nomination Form for the Diocese of
Reno Synod 2015 in this bulletin.
Each nominee shall be contacted by the Pastoral
Council or its representative to confirm willingness to serve,
and provide the following demographic information for the
use of the Pastoral Council: name, age, gender, occupation,
family status (single, married, minor children, etc.), ministry
and/or program association. This information, regarding all
nominees considered for election is to be reported to the
Bishop and to the Synod Preparatory Commission for review
of the demographics of elected delegates and to assist the
Bishop in his subsequent appointments.
Our Pastoral Council is composed of 9 members and
1 youth representative. Members are discerned for Council
membership to be representative of the diversity of our
parish, and this is also to be the general criteria for the
selection of delegates: age, gender, family status, ethnicity,
national origin, economic diversity, and representatives of
programs and ministries.
The requisites for service as delegates include that
they be in good standing with the Church and that they
accept a duty for active preparation and participation in the
Synod: 1. Participate in local preparatory events (estimated
at 2 or 3) to occur in the first half of 2015; 2. Register and
attend the 2015 Diocesan Conference January 9 and 10 at
John Ascuaga’s Nugget for a delegate orientation session; 3.
Attend and participate in a regional delegate preparatory
event to occur in the third quarter of 2015; 4. Review of
Synod documents, procedures, and norms prior to the Synod;
5. Attend and actively participate in the three days of the
synod December 3-5, 2015, at the Peppermill Hotel, and the
opening liturgy the evening of December 2; 6. Participate in
the Synod evaluation and implementation.

Masses at:
8:00, 9:30 &
11:15 am, 5:00 pm
A delegate who is “lawfully impeded” from participation or attending the Synod must notify the Bishop of the
reason to be relieved from his/her service. If accepted, the
Bishop will appoint from a pool of alternate delegates from
our parish a substitute delegate. For this reason, our
Pastoral Council might choose three alternate delegates,
along with the 16 to which we are entitled.
The Fundraising Committee will meet Monday at
6:00 p.m. in the parlor. The Finance Committee will meet
Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. in the parlor. There will be a special
Filipino Workshop in our hall Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until
4:00 p.m.
Saturday, November 1, is the feast of All Saints. As
it falls on Saturday this year, it will not be a holy day of
obligation. Nevertheless, we will have Mass at 9:00 a.m. in
its observance. Sunday, November 2nd, the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls’ Day) will take
precedence over the 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Your Pastor,
STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
Each April 15th, we dutifully give to
Caesar what belongs to Caesar. Does my
stewardship indicate that I am as faithful about giving to
God what belongs to God?
AROUND THE PARISH
Congratulations and welcome to Clara Miriam,
daughter of Mark and Rachel Baryol; and for
Zachariah Noel, son of Joel and Andrea Santos, who were
baptized Saturday, October 11th, at Immaculate Conception Church.
DEATHS
Please remember in your prayers the souls of
Patricia Hiester and of Ruben Mejia, whose
funeral Masses were held Tuesday and Saturday,
respectively, this past week at Immaculate Conception
Church.
“I will build My Church” Today, World Mission
Sunday, Pope Francis asks every Catholic to “help
the least among us.” As Catholics around the world
let us offer help through the Propagation of the Faith for
more than 1,100 dioceses throughout the world. Please be
as generous as possible.
The 2nd collection next Sunday will be for
our Building Needs Fund. In August, we
paid an extra $5,151 towards the principal on
our $1.39 million mortgage and transferred
$3,109 to our savings account for future maintenance
projects.
Upcoming Meetings:
The Fundraising Committee meeting will be Monday at
6:00 pm in the parlor. All parish ministries/organizations who
utilize our facilities are expected to have a representative
attend.
The Prayer Quilters will meet Tuesday at
1:30 pm in the hall.
The Finance Committee will meet Tuesday at 6:00 pm in
the parlor.
The BLD Charismatic Group will meet Friday, at 7:00 pm
in the hall.
We need to hear from you! Just a few
weeks ago we opened a special website
renosynod2015.org where you can find the
latest information about the diocesan synod,
including a list of the parish listening sessions
and the questions on which you may comment. If you
missed the listening session in your parish, you may answer
the questions online. You must identify yourself and your
parish. THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO BE HEARD!
Please check the bulletin board in
the gathering space for events, job opportunities,
and information not listed in the bulletin.
Servers, please remember to sign in
on the sheet on the bulletin board in
the ushers room. If you are unable to serve your
scheduled time, please get a substitute.
