Competitors under 26 wishing to qualify for the Championship must enter Class 3
RULES
1. In Class 1 - Conventional ploughing, the minimum depth of ploughing must be 8 ins
(20 cm) except for opening and finish. Opening split min depth 4 ins (10cm). Feering
backed by 3 rounds. Last furrow must be thrown towards own crown. A l l openings must
be completely thrown out and no strips left unploughed. Competitors must stop for 20
minutes to allow this to be judged. N O R O L L I N G A L L O W E D .
If not completely ploughed through, no points will be awarded for Finish.
2. In Class 2 & 2A - Reversible ploughing, the minimum depth for class 2 must be 9 ins
(22.5cm). And class 2A the minimum depth must be 7ins (18cm). The competitor must
make a double run with a minimum depth of 4 ins (10cm). After which competitors must
stop for 20 minutes to allow this to be judged. The competitor then ploughs 12 furrows
using alternate bodies from his opening towards his lower number (casting towards higher
number). He then proceeds to his higher number and completes his plot to his first
furrow. No plough bodies to be removed or displaced. The competitor must be
completely ploughed through. Two wheel marks permissible. N O R O L L I N G
ALLOWED.
If not completely ploughed through no points will be awarded for Finish.
3. In Class 3 - Reversible ploughing the minimum depth must be 9 ins (22.5cm). The
competitor must make a double run with a minimum depth of 4 ins (10cm). After which
competitors must stop for 20 minutes to allow this to be judged. The competitor then
ploughs 12 furrows using alternate bodies from his opening towards his lower number
(casting towards higher number). He then proceeds to higher number and completes his
plot to his first furrow. No plough bodies to be removed or displaced. The competitor
must be completely ploughed through. N O R O L L I N G A L L O W E D . If not completely
ploughed through no points will be awarded for Finish
4. In Class 4 - Under 26 years of age. Entrants may use semi-digger or reversible
plough. Each competitor will be allowed one assistant. This class does not qualify for
the championship. N O R O L L I N G A L L O W E D . If not completely ploughed through no
points will be awarded for Finish.
5. In Classes 5,6&7 - Vintage conventional, Vintage trailing & Classic ploughing, the
minimum depth of ploughing must be 6ins (15cm) except for opening and finish.

thrown towards own crown. A l l openings must be completely thrown out and no strips
left unploughed. Competitors must stop for 20 minutes to allow this to be judged. N O
ROLLING ALLOWED.
If not completely ploughed through, no points will be awarded for Finish.
6. In Classes 1,2,3,5,6&7 except for lining up and pulling out of feering poles, no
assistance will be allowed to competitors on their rigs either with the ploughing or in the
operation of adjustment of their outfits. No treading or shaping of furrows by hand or
instrument will be allowed. It is the responsibility of the competitor to see that they are
not assisted in any way. (See rule 9)
7. Competitors will gather for a briefing at 9.15 am. Ploughing will start at 9.30 am.
All ploughing must be finished by 2.00pm unless extra time has been granted.
8. Prizes will be awarded according to the Judges decision and their decision must be
accepted as final.
9. The Ploughing Match Committee reserve the right to disqualify a competitor for a
breach of any of the conditions of entry, or anyone who is not making a worthwhile job,
and reserve the right to withhold prizes if there are too few entries in a class. Any
problems arising which are not covered in the rules will be decided by the committee
whose decision is final.
10. Rigs will be allocated by draw by the Ploughing Match Committee prior to the
printing of the programmes.
IMPORTANT - In the event of postponement due to weather conditions, or any other
cause, competitors will be notified if possible.
Lunch will be available at catering van in exchange for voucher.
NB Manual trip ploughs with no hydraulic connections at all will be allowed to compete
in the 2014 ploughing match and judged alongside class 2 (2 and 3 furrow reversible
ploughs). Any tractor may be used for this class (Class 2a)
