Central Peel participates in the Peel District School Board

SPECIALIST HIGH SKILLS MAJOR (SHSM)
BUSINESS
In order to meet the high demand in the coming years for quality skilled workers in the Business Industry, Central Peel
Secondary School is excited to offer this unique program. The Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) at CPSS involves
students completing a package of 9 courses that meets the needs of all students with an interest in developing the skills
necessary for a career in Business. The Business Industry acknowledges and supports the program through certification
and appropriate industry co-operative learning placements.
The SHSM program includes the following criteria:
1. Complete a bundle of 9 specific courses (see chart below);
2. Complete Sector Certifications and/or training programs;
3. Participate in experiential learning and career exploration activities within the sector (e.g. co-op work experience, job
shadowing, job twinning);
4. Learn and document the industry Essential Skills and work habits using the Ontario Skills Passport;
5. Gain “Reach Ahead” experience connected to the student’s post secondary plans.
