Course description
Our Certificate IV in Travel and Tourism course reflects the role of individuals who use a broad
range of sales and marketing or operational skills combined with sound knowledge of industry
operations. You will be able to operate independently or with limited guidance from others and
use discretion to solve non-routine problems. Many people in travel and tourism have
supervisory responsibilities and plan, monitor and evaluate the work of team members.
This qualification provides you with a pathway to work in any sector of the tourism and travel
industry as a supervisor or senior operations or sales coordinator. The qualification allows for
multiskilling and specialisation in operations or marketing.

What are the entry requirements? (including Recognition of Prior Learning)
Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who are able to demonstrate tourism and travel
industry knowledge, customer service and operational skills.
The individual must either: 1. Be formally assessed through a training program or recognition
process, against one of the unit clusters below.
OR 2. Have relevant tourism and travel industry employment experience. A job that has involved
the application of skills described in one of the unit clusters would be a satisfactory indicator for
entry. A determination need not involve a formal process of measuring, evaluating or recording
performance against the units of competency.

Will I need to undertake Work Placement?
Students are required to find suitable work placement/experience, be employed within the
industry or be able to “simulate” a workplace where an assessment can be conducted.
Under 17 and wanting to leave school?
If you are under 17 and want to leave school, your options have been affected by a recent
change in NSW law. From January 2010 you must complete Year 10 and then continue in
either full-time education, training, paid employment or a combination of these options until
you’re at least 17 years of age. More information about options for school students under 17 is

There are 5 Core units and 5 pre-selected Elective units in this course. Students must
complete the 10 units to be awarded this Certificate.

This qualification is completed by:
• Studying at home at your own pace – considering the enrolment period
• Completing an online quiz task and by submitting online assessment work
• Accessing and studying resources and materials via online delivery
How much is the course?
$570 per semester
Plus the $50.00 OTEN Student Materials and Handling charge.
Due to a policy change on 1 July 2013 enrolling students must have a NSW residential address
or be employed within NSW to be eligible to access government subsidised training places in
