Mr Mick May
The topic to be presented and discussed is
“Connecting the business sector and social enterprise”
The term social enterprise is in Slovenia at times still more connected to
the image of NGOs and charities, and not perceived as a regular trade.
At the same time, awareness of value and opportunities the social
enterprise can bring to the table in terms of opening doors to new
customers, or new ways of dealing with them, is very low among the
traditional business sector. Mick May, founder and former CEO, now

patron of Blue Sky Development will talk of his own experience and
present best practice from the UK in how to connect the third and the
business sector.
Mick May founded Blue Sky in 2005 and was Chief Executive for 10
years until he stepped down in February 2015. He remained involved
with the charity as a Patron and purses other charitable activities.
Mick came to the voluntary sector in 2003, when he joined the
community-based regeneration charity Groundwork Thames Valley.
This followed 20 years in the financial services industry, culminating in
board-level positions in both the banking and asset management sectors.
During this time he was a founding member of two successful start-up
businesses, Dustfield Properties and New Boathouse Capital. He is also
a member of the Advisory Board of the Big Society Capital.
