STEP FORWARD WITH CHRIST
Pledge Weekend
November 1/2
Beginning last month, our parish started the initial
stage of our Step Forward With Christ Capital
Campaign to raise funds for some much needed
repairs and renovations. We are reaching out to
all parishioners this week, and ask that you watch
your mailbox for a packet of information. We are
requesting all to make a pledge. Please bring your
completed forms to Mass next weekend, November 1-2 as they will be collected with the Offertory.
Our campaign is led by John Hoffman, Doug Petix
and a committee of parishioners. Special thanks
are extended to them and to our early leadership
supporters. Please feel free to contact Father Tom
if you have any questions.
BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE
With the approach of All Souls’ Day and the month of November, the Book of Remembrance is placed by the statue
of Our Lady of Sorrows (Pieta). You are welcome to write
in the names of your deceased loved ones who will be remembered at Masses during the month of November.

Respect for Life
“Whoever sacrifices to any god, save to the Lord only,
shall be utterly destroyed.” – Exodus 22:20
Do you put other “gods” before God? Is your love of
money, power, status or some personal possession greater
than your love for God? If so, you may want to pay attention to the scripture reading because you are not going to
like the outcome. The good news – it’s not too late to put
God first in your life.
2014 BISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL
Naomi’s Way is a transitional housing program for single mothers operated by Catholic Charities, Diocese of
Metuchen. All of the clients are involved in vocational
or educational training and attend monthly life skills
workshops focused on areas such as health and nutrition,
parenting, and budgeting.
Your gift to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal has been lifechanging for hundreds of young women who have
found a path to self-sufficiency at Naomi’s Way. Please
prayerfully consider making a gift today.
BISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL &
THE PARISH CAPITAL CAMPAIGN,
STEP FORWARD WITH CHRIST
Each year I encourage every family to support the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. The parish will con nue to support
it this year since we are part of the Diocese of Metuchen, which provides many ministries and services that
benefit our own community.
As you have been hearing, I am asking all in the parish to
help support our capital campaign called Step Forward
With Christ, so that needed repairs and improvements
can be made in the church interior over the next several
years. We encourage you to make a generous 3-year
pledge.
It is diocesan policy that parishes must guarantee their
Bishop’s Appeal goal during the first year of their capital campaign. Whether or not you give to the Bishop’s
Appeal, our parish is responsible for a contribu on of
$41,500 to the efforts of the Diocese. This year any
shor all in dona ons to the Bishop’s Appeal will have
to be made up from the proceeds of the capital campaign, thereby reducing the amount we would have
available for our capital projects.
As you receive informa on about these efforts, I ask you
to read the materials carefully and prayerfully consider a
sacrificial contribu on. No ma er who you contribute to
this year, your generosity will be a help to both our parish and to our Diocese.
In his encyclical, The Gospel of Life, Saint John Paul II
explains the tragedy of assisted suicide: “Death is considered ‘senseless’ if it suddenly interrupts a life still
open to a future of new and interesting experiences. But
it becomes a ‘rightful liberation’ once life is held to be
no longer meaningful.”
Our Catholic moral tradition holds that human life is the
most basic gift from a loving God — a gift over which
we have stewardship, not absolute dominion. As responsible stewards of life, we must never directly intend to
cause our own death or that of anyone else. Euthanasia
and assisted suicide are always gravely wrong.

Stewardship Reflection
for All Souls
On November 2 is the Commemoration of All the
Faithful Departed (All Souls). We remember by
name all who have died, and we pray that through
God’s mercy, our loved ones are now with God in
Paradise. We appreciate their past stewardship. By
their sharing of their time, talent and treasure, our
parish stands here today. By example, they have
taught us what it means to be a loving, caring Christian, committed to doing God’s work through this
church.

Propositions for Real Life
SPEAKER SERIES-Tuesdays: 10/7, 10/21, 11/4, 11/18, 12/2.
Addressing the tough question, “Why does the Church teach
that?” Help us reach out and invite those you know who may
be stumbling over some difficult issues. Come to a deeper understanding of the reasons that the Church teaches what she
teaches. Has misunderstanding kept you or someone you know
from entering more fully into a relationship with Jesus and his
Church? With pastoral care, we hope to clear obstacles that
have been in the way of a more joyful relationship and fuller
participation in the life of the Church.

SISTER JOHN LOUISE McCANN
MEMORIAL MASS
Sister John died on October 11, 2014 and was a member
of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth for 70 years.
Over 45 of those years were spent in service teaching at
St. Peter Elementary School. She has touched the lives of
thousands in our parish and New Brunswick community.
A Memorial Mass will offered for the peaceful repose of
Sister John on Saturday, December 6, at 9:00 a.m.
Pennies from Heaven Campaign
Save that loose change in your car seats and pockets! In
collaboration with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the
Social Concerns Commission, the Whole Community Catechesis families have prepared bags for you to take home
this week and return during the month of November. All
the change collected will be used for the St. Vincent de Paul
Society and their ongoing efforts to help those in need.
Please return your bags of change to the marked boxes in
the back of the church. Also, the WCC families will be collecting travel sized toiletries during the month of November
to make “Hygiene Kits” to be distributed to the homeless in
our community through the Social Concerns Committee.
Please consider donating travel size toiletries, toothpaste,
mouthwash, shampoo, soap, razors, etc. and place them in
the boxes that will be located in the back of the church.
Many thanks for your generosity and help!
National Vocation Awareness Week
November 2-9, 2014
Did you know that in our country, compared to 50 years
ago, there are 20,000 fewer priests and 129,000 fewer religious sisters? At the same time, the Catholic population has
continued to grow steadily. Many factors have contributed
to the decline: growing secularism, a lengthened period of
adolescence, attitudes about celibacy, etc. During Vocation
Awareness week, please pray that young people in today’s
society will hear and respond to God’s call. And do your
part to encourage them to consider the priesthood and religious life.
