Perth Racing Vision For Belmont Park Racecourse In light of the recently released Deloitte review into Perth Racing’s business model, and following Perth Racing’s AGM on Monday 27th October, the key recommendation to reinvigorate Belmont Park Racecourse as the catalyst to providing Perth Racing with a sustainable operating business underpinning the viability of Perth Racing and benefitting the entire racing industry has been endorsed by the Perth Racing Committee. Perth Racing’s Chairman Ted van Heemst said our goal is to provide a world class contemporary entertainment venue with the capacity to accommodate up to 8000 people. “Belmont Park Racecourse will provide a vibrant retail, residential and conference events offering second only to Crown in scale and significance, including a 900 person grand ballroom, a range of options for dining and state of the art vision and audio interactivity. Of course a view of the track and river from all areas is a must,” Mr van Heemst said. “We are looking to deliver an ambience that promotes social activity and connectedness to the precinct, it will be a warm, welcoming living environment.” “The new venue will provide the Club with new noncore revenue streams which will allow the Club to be competitive in the highly competitive leisure and sporting market place and this vision will be delivered without the Club taking on debt.” 70 Grandstand Road Ascot WA 6104 Tel: 08 9277 0777 Fax: 08 9277 0740 email: [email protected] web: www.perthracing.com.au Perth Racing is the registered business name of The Western Australian Turf Club The Grandstand The grandstand cost is projected at $60million. Based on the development program demolition of the old grandstand will commence in May 2015 with the new grandstand planned to open in October 2017. “There is still much planning to be completed around the development including required changes in race programming which we will work through with all stakeholders, however the Club is committed to provide 90 race meetings a year throughout the development phase,” Stephen Wicks , Perth Racing CEO said. “The new grandstand will transform a day at the races and place Belmont among the top racing venues nationally. Perth Racing acknowledges its members, racegoers and the Perth community deserve to see a new Belmont Grandstand.” The design by award-winning architects Hames Sharley is superb in style and innovation and mirrors the flow of the Swan River capturing spectacular views of the race track, river, city and new Perth stadium. It encourages connectivity, engagement and socialisation of the site aimed at making Belmont Park a sought after point of destination for both residents and international and intra state tourists. The scale of public open space on the precinct at nearly ten hectares will provide an outcome which will provide the community with unparalleled benefits, including the ability to walk around the entire track, and access the in-field which will be a preferred location for events such as Cirque du Soleil and WA Polo whilst at the same time providing space for groups, couples, friends and families to experience and enjoy the unique surroundings. “With a significant increase in the number of bars and restaurants including a Champagne Bar as well as the addition of the largest rooftop garden in the State, the grandstand will not only be a sought-after raceday location but an event destination,” Stephen Wicks said. The club will make available via its website concept designs and current development schedule. <ends> Media Contact Amber Sheldon @ gtmedia strategic communication 9227-8195 | 0419 921 003 70 Grandstand Road Ascot WA 6104 Tel: 08 9277 0777 Fax: 08 9277 0740 email: [email protected] web: www.perthracing.com.au Perth Racing is the registered business name of The Western Australian Turf Club
