The Joy of Stewardship - Fr. John Lanzrath
What does it mean to be a faithful steward? How is stewardship intimately
linked with the Eucharist as a response of our faith in God for His many
blessings? With an introduction by his father, Fr. John Lanzrath presents to
us how to develop an attitude of gratitude to grow in grace, incorporate a
spirituality of stewardship in every aspect of daily life, and overcome the
selfishness that keeps us from recognizing God’s gifts.
2014 CMA
As of 10/22 pledges are $68,795. Payments received are $63,473.50. Our

baskets should range in value from $5 to $50.
Spare a- Dime Sunday
This weekend is Spare-a-Dime Sunday, baskets will be available in the
church lobby as you leave Mass. The money collected goes to help the

Feast of St. Jude/Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
t. Jude Parish Update
Celebrating the Feast of our parish patron St. Jude (along with St. Simon) is always a joy. It is an opportunity to reflect on who we are as the Church here on the peninsula, so to say. “We choose our friends
not our family,” once quipped Napoleon III, Emperor of France. And so it is with our parish. It is God our
Lord Who has put us all together in this place and time; and that is a wonderful thing! The most important
aspect then of our parish life, is not merely the quantity and quality of projects and programs that we work
on together. The most important thing is our love for God and His most holy Mother, and our love and service to one another; and that our faith will be fruitful, so that our beloved parish will grow, and that more
people will come to know Christ through our love for them. Our generous spirit and welcoming attitude
will do much to draw in the lost sheep.
We are beginning or revitalizing a number of ministries and activities that we hope are of benefit to
those of us who are regularly participating parishioners and to those who we pray, will find their way back
home.
In response to a number of requests for ongoing Faith Formation/Bible Study, our parish will
be commencing adult education with video presentations of Fr. Robert Barron’s popular 10-part series
Catholicism, on Tuesday evenings in the Parish Center from 7:00-9:00 p.m., with one hour for the video
and one hour for discussion. Dates are November 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th; December 2nd, 9th; January 6th,
13th, 27th; and February 3rd. There will be a sign-up in the vestibule next weekend for those who wish to
participate. I hope to see you there!
St. Jude Youth Group will be having a FREE teen movie night in the Parish Center on Halloween,
October 31st, for students in grades 7-12 (please see detailed information at the bottom of page 6 in this
bulletin.) Each person who attends will be entered into a raffle for a free four-pack of movie tickets the
Mastic Movie Theater. Please sign-up in the church vestibule after Masses.
We will soon be forming a St. Jude Events Committee. Planning and producing a yearly parish
calendar of social, spiritual, and educational goings-on for all to see will give parishioners ample time to
know what will be offered and happening here, and so that we can make provisions to participate in the
enjoyable events. The more people that get involved, the more enjoyable and inviting a place our parish
will be! Please stay tuned for more information… (N.B.: Since an insufficient number of people purchased
tickets for the Country Hoe-Down, it was cancelled. We tried to offer something different, but obviously,
the interest was just not there. Nothing ventured; nothing gained. It is sad when people complain that
“there is nothing is going on here,” and then when something is offered, then they don’t bother to come.
Hopefully, you are not one of those people!)
We have reached and surpassed our goal in collections for the 2014 Catholic Ministries Appeal!
Thank-You to all who continue to support our annual diocesan fund raiser, which, when we surpass our
goal, also provides funds for our parish needs. God bless you and keep up the good work!
The St. Jude Capital Campaign is getting closer to beginning! This past week I met with Mr. Eric
Anderson of the Diocese of Rockville Centre Office of Construction and Renovation in regards to the plans
for the St. Jude Shrine, old church site and grounds. Soon we hope to provide the parish with some pictures
of what everything will look like, so that you have a better idea of knowing what your gifts will help to fund.
This is a very exciting time of renewal for our parish and this community. Please keep the success of this
effort in your prayers; not only that people will be generous with their treasure, but most importantly, that
we will do something that is most pleasing to almighty God and which will bring more souls unto Him here
at our spiritual home.
St. Jude, pray for us!
In Christ,
Fr. Greg

St. Vincent de Paul
“You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul,
and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The
second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and
the prophets depend on these two commandments.” If the second commandment to love neighbor as self is like the first, then we might surmise
that we must love our neighbor in the same way as we love God. Loving God
isn’t merely a matter of fervor in our hearts; it is expressed in doing good for
the sake of others Join the Society of St. Vincent de Paul?

Prayer for the Elections
O Virgin of Guadalupe,
Your appearance in Mexico changed the course of history.
Human sacrifice ceased and millions were converted to
Jesus Christ. Pray for our nation now. Guide our elections
through your gracious intercession. Change hearts and
minds to uphold the dignity of all human life. Stem the tide
of moral degeneration and defend the sanctity of marriage.
Protect our nation from terrorism, war and natural disaster.
May goodness triumph over evil. May candidates committed to God’s truth be elected and re-elected and may our
nation prosper, through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

A Great Place to Advertise
Did you know that the St. Jude bulletin is printed at
no cost to our parish each week? Not only that, our
parish receives a part of the advertising commission. So please frequent the fine establishments that
advertise in our bulletin!
If your business could use a shot in the arm, consider
advertising in the bulletin. Each weekend, approximately 1450 people attend Mass at St. Jude, most of
who live and shop in the Mastic// Mastic Beach/Shirley area. It’s an easy way to reach thousands of area
families with information about your business. For
more information on how to advertise in our bulletin,
call Frank Capanzano, at J.S. Paluch at 631-987-0064.
Thank you.
