Date and time
The GUPES Partnership Forum will take place at the Higashiyama Campus of Nagoya
University, on 8 November 2104, Saturday. The Forum will be conducted in English. It will
commence at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. This will be followed by parallel sessions.
Please refer to the programme of the event for meeting room assigned to the organized and
parallel sessions and Campus Map (Figure 1).
Meeting venue
The meeting venue will be the Lecture Hall in the Environmental Studies Building at
Nagoya University. Lecture rooms 1-3 and seminar room 3 have also been booked for the
afternoon parallel sessions and to allow participants to hold informal meetings.

Airport Transfers
Participants are advised to get to Nagoya University from Chubu Central Japan
International Airport (Centrair) via train. The estimated transits time via the Nagoya
Railroad (Meitetsu) to Kanayama Station is 28 – 35 minutes. Train services from Chubu
Airport are available daily, every 20 minutes, from 5:30 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. From Kanayama
station, take Meijyo Line (subway) to Nagoya Daigaku Station (=Nagoya University Station)
and into University. Estimated time is 25 minutes (Figure 2).

Visas
A short-term visa is available for participants for a maximum of 90 days.
 Russian, CIS countries, or Georgia nationals www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/short/russia_nis.html;
 Chinese nationals are advised to refer to the Japanese Embassy or Consulates-General
in China to apply for a visa or visit www.mofa.go.jp/about/emb_cons/mofaserv.html;

For nationals of Barbados (since April 1, 2010), Turkey (since April 1, 2011) and Lesotho (since April 1, 2010), visas are not
required only for holders of Machine-Readable Passport (MRP) or ePassport in compliance with ICAO standards. Those who do
not hold an MRP or ePassport are advised to obtain a visa in advance, otherwise will be strictly examined and may be refused
entry to Japan.

For nationals of those countries with visa exemptions permitting stays of up to 6 months under the bilateral visa exemption
arrangements, those who wish to stay in Japan for more than 90 days are required to apply for an extension of the period of stay
to the Ministry of Justice (Regional Immigration Bureau) before the period of permitted stay is to expire.

Suitable localities for accommodation
Participants are encouraged to stay within three suitable areas during their stay in Nagoya.
i. Vicinity of Nagoya station - it is an easy access from Tokyo, Osaka and the Chubu Int'l
Airport (Centrair).
ii. Kanayama - easy access from Centrair and is in close proximity to the Int'l Congress
Centre. Participants will have to change trains at Nagoya Station to get there if you
are from Tokyo/Osaka.
iii. Sakae – It has the biggest shopping/nightlife district in Nagoya and is two stops
from Nagoya station (approximately 5 minutes). However, it may be difficult for
foreigners to get to the hotels, though one can walk for several minutes from the
station.
Hotels
Several hotels around Nagoya Station and are a walking distance from the station (less than
5 or 10 minutes; Marriott is inside the station building). Nagoya station is about 25 minutes
away from Nagoya University by subway (you have to change trains once at Motoyama
station). It is around 20 minutes from the International Congress Centre.
Please note, there is no hotel next to Nagoya University. You have to use the subway in any
case, as the number of on-campus accommodations are limited. Hotels below are ranked
roughly in order of price. The first few might be expensive, while the rest are reasonable.

Electricity
The standard voltage and frequency in Japan are 100 Volts and 50/60 Hz respectively. The
power sockets and corresponding plugs are of type A/B (Figure 3). Your may need for a
power plug adapter depending on the country you come from.
