How to apply for your YMS Visa
(Youth Mobility Scheme)
• To apply for your Youth Mobility Visa, go to https://www.gov.uk/apply-uk-visa
and click on “Start Now”.
• When prompted, choose the Work - Tier 5 (Youth Mobility) Visa - Tier 5
(Youth Mobility) Migrant.
You must be outside the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man to apply
for your visa. You will need to:
• register for an account
• fill in the application form in English
• pay for the visa fee online (in most cases)
• print out your form; and
• book and attend an appointment at a Visa Application Centre.
NOTE: You cannot apply for your YMS until 90 days before your departure date.
Choose “Register an Account” to begin the process of applying for your Visa.
Begin entering your personal details . At the end of this process you will be asked to submit an email address
and nominated password. If you choose to save your application and return to it later, you will need to enter
the same email address and password in order to resume the application
You will now be asked to check your email inbox to authorise and unlock your account so you can continue
with your application.
Once that is done, you will be brought back to the Visa4UK website and in to your personal application.
Begin completing all details.
Towards the end of this section, you will be asked to enter your Points Claimed. Click on this
link to calculate your points - you should have a total of 50.

You are now at the end of the Personal Details section. Submit any additional information you
feel may help your application, and click “Confirm Application”.
You will now be prompted to double check all of the information you have previously
submitted. Once you are satisfied all the information is true and correct, click on “Submit
Application”.
The next step is to sign your declaration. Click on “Sign Declaration”.
Read through all Terms and Conditions. Once you are happy to sign your declaration, type your
full name in to the signature space provided and click on “Sign Declaration”.
The next step is to book an appointment at your nearest Visa Application Centre. Click on
“Book Appointment”.
Select your region and appointment location and click “Next” at the bottom of the page.
Choose your preferred date and time and click “Next” at the bottom of the page.

You will now be prompted to pay for your Visa online.
The payment is non-refundable, even if your visa application is refused. Therefore it is
extremely important that the information you provide is correct and you supply all the
required documentation when applying for your visa.

You will need to take the following information with you to your biometrics interview
 A copy of your online application (please ensure that you bring all pages including the bar
code page)
 A printout of your appointment confirmation
 Your passport

Once you have had your biometric data taken you are ready to send your application to the
High Commission – see next page for full details.
You need to allow 25 working days from the time your application arrives at the High
Commission for processing.
If you contact the High Commission regarding the progress of your application prior to the
end of the 25 working days they will not help you!
When sending in your application to the High
Commission you need to include:

Your passport.
Application form (which will now have been stamped at your biometric interview).
Appendix 7 (points based system form).
A prepaid, self-addressed envelope for the High Commission to return your passport in. They recommend
using a track-able service and CANNOT accept Registered Post envelopes.
A recent passport sized photograph (if the application is successful, the photographs provided will be
reproduced on the visa vignette). Please note - photographs should measure 45mm x 35mm and be:
– clean colour taken against a white background;
– r and of good quality and not framed or backed;
– printed on normal photographic paper;
– full face and without sunglasses, hat or head covering (unless it is worn for cultural or religious
reasons but the face must not be covered).
Proof of funds such as a bank statement which must include:
– the date (within the last month);
– the bank’s logo;
– your residential address;
–
proof you have at least £1800 (check current exchange rate at the time of your application)
– NOT ACCEPTABLE AS PROOF OF FUNDS IS: a printed EFTPOS receipt or a bank statement

printed by you at home (unless you have taken it into your bank and had it stamped).
Any other documentation that you may have been asked to provide during the online application process.
