Holy Day of Opportunity
Without looking at a calendar I could tell you that Halloween, All Saints Eve, is just around the corner.
Almost every program on television involves
ghosts, goblins, witches and villains, and the
later evening programs trend towards horror
and mayhem. Children’s conversations revolve
around costumes and dressing up, and scary
stories are making their yearly appearance
among us. Trick or treating will soon begin and
children will have more candy than their little bodies can tolerate. Our culture has taken the pre-Christian
fear of the growing cold and darkness as omens of evil and the power of death and brightened it, polished
it and turned it into a light-hearted celebration of spooks and jack-o-lanterns. For adolescents and adults it
is a time to be frightened in the dark by scary movies and horror films.
In the life of the Church it is a turning point in our contemplation of the meaning, mission and ministry of
Jesus. We turn to look death in the face and see through its show of power to the conquering victory of
Christ. We celebrate that God’s plan for us is an eternal celebration of his love in heaven. We need not
fear death, because Christ has conquered it for us and invited us through death to new life. The twin feasts
of All Saints Day and All Souls Day proclaim our hope and trust in Christ’s promise of salvation. We
declare that we are a Communion of Saints, a fellowship of the friends of God and witnesses to hope.
While Halloween offers fear in the shadows, we contemplate the bright light of salvation. While horror
and terror are easy to find, we proclaim hope and courage. Our celebration of the saints joined in
celebration in heaven and our fervent prayer that our beloved dead reach the banquet of the Lord are a
consolation in a sometimes scary world.
Because All Saints Day falls on a Saturday this year, it is not a holy day of obligation. I however invite
you to see it as a holy day of opportunity. The All Saints Day Masses at each parish are an opportunity to
be comforted, encouraged and consoled by the truth of our destiny. Take the opportunity to come and
celebrate the promises of Christ and the truth of our salvation.
Our weekend Masses will be the more solemn celebrations of All Souls Day. We will remember not the
great lights of the saints, but the kitchen lights of parents, spouses, brothers, sisters and friends that shone
in our lives. We will remember and pray for those people close to our hearts. We will ask the Lord to
gather them to glory. In a special way at each of the Saturday evening Masses in our area faith community
we will remember those who prayed with us last All Souls Day and who have passed through death with
hope in Christ.
We are not obligated under the threat of mortal sin to attend All Saints Day Mass this year, but I hope you
will see it as a holy day of opportunity; an opportunity to be blessed, to be lifted up and to be filled with
hope. See you at Mass on Saturday morning oh, cloud of faithful witnesses and friends of God.

LIFE MATTERS: The CCW is collecting items for Birthright Crisis
Pregnancy Center through Sunday, November 16. Most needed
items are new born diapers, also can use medium to large size
diapers, sleepers; any size and monetary donations. A crib is setup in
the back of church for your convenience. Please place donations in an
envelope marked Birthright Crisis Pregnancy Center and drop it in
the Sunday collection or at the parish office. All checks are to be
made out to Birthright Crisis Pregnancy Center.
WE EXTEND OUR PRAYERS AND SYMPATHY to the family
and friends of Edmund Snegosky who’s Mass of Christian Burial was
celebrated this past week.
ROSARY SOCIETY welcomes all members to sit together on the
front west side at the 8:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday, November 2. We
will also receive communion as a body. We invite men and women
of the parish to join the confraternity and share in the abundance of
graces, including plenary indulgences applicable to souls in
purgatory. If interested in joining the Rosary Society or for more

IN NEED OF ROSARY LEADERS: We are in need of Rosary
Leaders for before Mass on Wednesday morning and a sub for both
the weekday Masses and the 8:00 a.m. Sunday morning Mass. If you

CCW CRAFT, GENTLY USED TOY & BAKE SALE is
Saturday, November 22 and Sunday November 23. Saturday hours
are 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. & before and after 4 p.m. Mass. Sunday
hours are before and after the 8:00 a.m. Mass. Please price your craft
items and you may drop off your craft items at the church lower level
cafeteria area at anytime up through 6:00 pm Friday, November 21.
Baked goods can be dropped off anytime Friday afternoon or before
Saturday evening Mass. A tablet is available on the table for you to
sign and list what you brought. Thank you for your generosity.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION:
Grade 10 Catechist Needed: We are in need of a Grade 10
Catechist for the remainder of the 2014-15 Religious Education year.
Class time is 7:00 - 8:15 p.m. each Wednesday. If you would like to
volunteer to pass along your faith and learn with our young people,
please contact Lori at the parish office. Please remember that all
volunteers must be VIRTUS trained.

MEMORIAL MASS: The Holy Trinity Memorial Mass is Saturday,
November 1, at the 5:00 p.m. Mass. Parish members who have lost a
loved one and held their service at Holy Trinity are being contacted.
If there are other members of the parish who have lost a loved one
between October 13, 2013 and October 12, 2014 but did not have a
service at Holy Trinity yet would like to have them remembered at
this Mass, please call Nancy in the Parish Office at 320-485-5651. A
dinner sponsored by the HTCCW and KC members will follow the
Mass for all family members who attend.
ELECTION DAY LUNCHEON: The Holy Family Council #204
(CUF) Election Day Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, November 4.
Rolls and coffee starting at 9:30 a.m. with the luncheon of homemade
chicken noodle soup and chili being served from 10:30 a.m. until
1:30 p.m. Check out the Bake Sale, Guatemalan Coffee and quilt
raffle. Holy Family Council members are reminded to bring baked
goods.

few more substitute Catechists and Prayer Listeners to help out at

IT’S A CELEBRATION: Please join us at Un-Hinged Pizza on
Monday, October 27, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. for cake and coffee as
we celebrate Loretta Ide’s 75 year membership as a Catholic United
Financial member. CUF will hold their business meeting at 8:00 p.m.
MAY HE REST IN PEACE: We extend our prayers and sympathy
to the family and friends of John Popelka who died this last week.
May God receive him into his mercy and grant his family and friends
consolation.
CAN YOU LEND US YOUR STATUES? Once again this year our
parish plans to create a shrine to the saints in front of the altar for All
Saints Day and the month of November. If you can help us by
lending us your statues of saints for the month, please drop them off
with Kelly Le Crone at the liturgy office at church. Your generous
lending will help us create a fitting honor to the saints and heroes of
our faith.
MUSIC NEEDS: Each year our musicians need updates and
supplements for their accompaniment books and our musicians and
cantors need books with the Responsorial Psalms and Gospel
Acclamations for the year. If you are interested in helping with these
costs please talk to Kelly LeCrone, our AFC liturgist, or with Shirley
Nowak in the parish office. These generous volunteers serve us well,
and these necessary materials allow them to lead us in song and in
praising the Lord.
THE RE CONNECTION
There have been some requests for an RE ghost story. With
Halloween coming up, I guess this is as good a time as any. Is it
true??? Yes, the kiddos will naturally giggle at this, but is it true?
All I can say is that strange things have happened when the hallowed
halls go dark after everyone has departed and yours truly is left to
lock up…now trying to decide if it is to keep someone out…or to
keep something in…
Having just shut down the lights, the hallway was draped in silent
shadows…springing to life with each streak of late October lightning.
Haunting displays such as these drive even the most steel nerved
among us to the recitation of ‘ol Psalm 23. So as the howling wind
outside began to drive the rain mercilessly into the window panes
much to the applause of the mighty thunder, a new noise curiously
crept up close, and boy, was I praying that it was the Lord at my side
with His rod and staff to give me courage…there to lead me to
greener pastures and outta this spooky spectacle. But from all the
accounts of Scripture that I have come across, our Blessed Lord was
never really fond of giggling like a school boy while playing peek-aboo in the darkened doorways. Not being particularly interested at
that point to see who was indeed beside me, I quickly quit that creepy
corridor, again imploring the Almighty that it was goodness and love
pursuing me, and not the first grade phantom which had so eerily
entertained my very eyes and ears. Reaching my office, grabbing my
books and keys in one frightened, fluid flow and, racing out to the
parking lot, I dared not look back…not for fear of turning into the
fabled pillar of salt, but rather a quivering mass of emasculated
manhood.
So, is it true, you ask again? Well, I like to think that the only ghost
whose company we enjoy on any given Wednesday Night is the Holy
Ghost. And like I said, the kiddos will giggle when they hear
this…our very hallowed halls echo with it…even when no one is
around!
TURKEY CARDS: once again this year we will be collecting our
partially filled Coborn’s Turkey Cards to help our Catholic Schools
Week Dinner. If you are not using them, please turn in your partially
filled cards at the parish office before December 1. If you are going
to turn in a sales slip, please remember that we need the whole sales
slip, not just the bottom part that indicates the number of stamps
earned or they will not be redeemable.

PAPER DRIVE: our next Paper Drive will be Saturday,
December 6, from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. The trailer is located in the
old MidAm parking lot. All proceeds from the paper drives go to the
Fine Arts students to help them pay for their trip to New York City in
March.
HOLY TRINITY SERVICE DAY: Fall is here and the leaves will
soon begin to fly. Holy Trinity School will once again be offering
their services to the Senior Citizens of Winsted to help them with
raking and bagging their leaves. If you would like a group of
students to come to your house and help with lawn work, please call
Elaine Kahle at 320-485-5625 and get your name on the list. A date
will be determined at a later time when most of the leaves have
fallen.
SHARING AND CARING HANDS: Holy Trinity School will be
making quarterly trips to Sharing and Caring Hands this school year.
Our first trip is planned for Wednesday, October 29. We will be
collecting household items for the shelter that are clean and in good
condition. Please take all clothing to the Worn-A-Bit in Winsted as
there is a great need right in our own community. Items may be
brought to the high school office anytime after October 1. Questions,

ALL SAINTS AND ALL SOULS’ DAY: Next weekend we
celebrate the two great feasts of All Saints and All Souls’. Because
All Saints Day falls on a Saturday, it is not a holy day of obligation,
but we are offering Masses on Saturday morning at each of our
parishes. Mass at St. Pius X will be at 8:00 a.m. Mass at Holy Trinity
will be at 8:15 a.m. and Mass at Holy Family will be at 10:00 a.m.
While this day is not a holy day of obligation you are invited to
observe the feast with us at one of these Masses. All of our Sunday
Masses will be celebrations of All Souls’ Day. At Saturday evening
Masses we will have special memorials for all who have died since
last All Souls’ Day.
SENIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL RELIGIOUS EDUCATION ON
WEDNESDAY: Seniors in high school will meet with Fr. Tony in
his office of Wednesday evening at 7:00. Our topic for the day is an
examination of the spiritual world, especially regarding evil and
exorcism. Other meeting dates this year are November 12,
November 19, April 18, and May 20. Topics include prayer and
petition, miracles, current events in the life of the Church, heaven and
hell and a question and answer evening. Please make plans to join us.
THE ARRIVAL OF FR. CORNELIUS AND OUR MASS
SCHEDULE: Several people have asked if we would be changing
our Mass schedule now that we have been blessed with the presence
of Fr. Cornelius. At this point there are no plans to change our Mass
schedule. We have a schedule that accommodates the needs of each
parish, and that allows two priests to cover the Masses in case of
illness or the need for one of our priests to be absent.
SAN LUCAS MISSION GALA COMING SOON: Please join us
at a Gala fund raiser for the San Lucas mission on Friday,
November 21 at the Crow River Winery east of Hutchinson on
Highway 7. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and supper is served at
7:00 p.m. Silent and live auctions will be held. The proceeds from
this gala will be used to continue the educational, medical, and other
ministries of the mission. The cost is $50.00 per person. To reserve

WORLD DAY OF THE FAMILY PILGRIMAGE PLANNED:
The World Meeting of Families will be taking place in Philadelphia,
PA, from September 22 - 27, 2015, with the theme, “The Gospel of
the Family, Resource of Humanity.” This event takes place every
three years and is meant to strengthen the sacred bonds of family
across the globe. This week of catechesis and celebration of the
family will culminate in the visit of the Holy Father, Pope Francis.
The Diocese of New Ulm is planning to join the other dioceses of the
state for a pilgrimage to the World Meeting of Families. We are in
the planning stages of the pilgrimage and would like to hear from
anyone who may have an interest in attending or finding out more
information. You may go to the diocesan Web site, www.dnu.org,
for a link to the Family Life page to view the latest information about
the World Meeting of Families. Your expression of interest is not a
commitment, but we need an idea of the number attending to plan
