From the Principal
What a wonderful time our Stage 2 students had in Bathurst last week. We had many
members of the public say how well behaved we were, the bus driver mentioned that
we were the ‘best bunch’ he has had for quite a long time. I am proud that they
represented KPS so well. A huge thank you to our staff who gave up their Thursday
evening to stay overnight with them.. Ms Dare, Mrs McManus, Ms Wilson and Mrs
Barrie. Well done everyone!!!

Grandparents are amongst the most wonderful relations in the life of every person. They
give unconditional love and care for their grandchildren. We can feel the warmth and
affection of our grandparents. They are the ones who are responsible for passing on
wisdom, values, and principles, from generation to generation, to help the youngsters
lead a better and more fulfilling life. We would like to honour and celebrate our
grandparents tomorrow at our Assembly, followed by some time in the classrooms and
morning tea out in the garden if it’s sunny.
Scarecrow Competition 2014.. what a fabulous effort !! Well done students and staff !!
The kitchen garden looks great, what a wonderful
addition in time for the Spring Garden Party!!
Thank you to all our parents involved last Sunday.
Thank you to Mrs Lawless for working hard to make
it such a special place.

To all our Grandparents,
We would like to invite you to our Friday assembly tomorrow at 9.15am to
celebrate the role you play in our lives. After the assembly, you are invited to
visit our classrooms to read with students and share your stories.
A picnic morning tea in the kitchen garden will follow (weather permitting).
School Swimming Scheme
The School Swimming Scheme will now be open to Years 4 and 5, as well as Years 2 and 3.
Notes have gone home today to Years 4 and 5. If your child is in Year 2 or 3 and you have
lost your note, you can get another note from the carousel in the front reception area.
As there is a limit on the number of students who can attend each year, please get your
notes in as soon as possible.
Hello from Ms Dare your swim school coordinator! My friends and I not only had fun and
learned to swim with the School Swimming Scheme but we also learned how to keep
ourselves safe to avoid an emergency (or to stay calm when awaiting rescue in a rip like yours truly). Our kids
today no matter where they live are no different and the School Swimming Scheme is a tried and true method for
fast and lasting skill acquisition. There’s nothing like learning and practising EVERY DAY to accelerate and
consolidate new physical and concept related skills. I urge you to join me in week 5 for some of the most fun and
practical learning of the term!
Upper Blue Mountains Music Festival
The Upper Blue Mountains Music Festival
will be held in the Pat Heffernan Hall of Katoomba Public School on
Tuesday 4th November and
Thursday 6th November.
Both performances will be at 6pm and tickets are $10 each.
Tickets are now on sale through the Katoomba Public School front office.
As there are only limited tickets available for each performance, please don’t leave it too late to buy
them or you may miss out!
Important Message for Year 6 Parents
The Year 6 Farewell Dinner will now be held on Monday 15th December in the Pat
Heffernan Hall at school.
We are looking for parents of Year 6 students who are able to assist in setting up and
decorating the hall. If you are able to come along next Thursday afternoon 30th October to
the school library at 3.15pm we will begin planning.
If you are not able to make this time but are able to help on the day, please let me know.

Stage 2 Camp
Stage 2 had a fantastic time at Camp! Our first stop was
the Australian Fossil Museum where we saw loads of fossils
including a huge T-Rex!
At the Goldfields our guide was Shaun, he was a convict
turned gold miner. We helped at the blacksmith forge and
he put us to work making mud bricks and turning the wheels
of big machines. He also showed us how to mine and pan for
gold. We got a little bit of gold fever and some of us found
real gold flakes!
