Step 2
(Highlight):
Begin the foil
placement at one of
the side sections.
Subdivide a fine
section diagonally
that mimics the shape
of the hairline. Create
a fine weave and
apply the Highlight
Formula.
Step 5
(Base Color
Application):
Begin base color
application at the
back of the head.
Divide the back
section in half
vertically from the
crown to the nape
and apply the Base
Formula to the new
growth.
Step 6
(Base Color
Between Foils):
Apply the Base
Formula between
the foils to the new
growth.

(Highlight):
Continue placement
working diagonally
toward the back.
Place approximately
4-5 foils, spaced
approximately 1-inch
(2.5 cm) apart.
Repeat the process
on the opposite side.
Step 4 (Highlight):
Release the top section and continue the process
starting at the front hairline. Subsections may be
taken on the diagonal, depending on the desired
end result and client’s natural part. Continue
working toward the crown in approximately
1-inch (2.5 cm) subsections.

the hair from the crown
to just behind both
ears. Secure the back
with an elastic band.
Create a section along
the parietal ridge on
both sides and secure
the top rectangular
section. Secure the
remaining side sections
for control.

Determine if additional

the hair. Lowlights can
be placed between the
highlighted sections
and throughout the rest

Final Placement and Application
Proceed until the desired level is achieved.
Rinse thoroughly and then shampoo and
condition using appropriate Joico regimen.

Step 1
(Sectioning):
Begin by taking a
2-3-inch (5-7 cm)
section from the top
of the ear across
to the other side.
Secure for control.
Step 2
(Base Color
Application):
Begin the base
application by dividing
the back section
vertically in half. Neatly
apply Base Formula
1 to the new growth.
Subdivide sections
starting at the bottom
of the section and work
your way to the top of
the section.
Step 3
(Base Color
Application):
Repeat the process
on the adjacent side.
Step 4 (Base Color Application):
Apply Base Formula 2 to the new growth of
the front sections. Subdivide hair and apply
Base Formula 2 neatly to ensure thorough
and complete coverage. Continue until
all new growth is covered. Begin timing for
45-60 minutes.

Step 5 (Midshaft and Ends):
To refresh and color balance the midshaft and
ends, mix new batches of Base Formulas 1 and
2, but this time add equal parts Clear. Apply the
formulas in the same fashion and process.
Step 6 (Foil Placement):
Placement of the foils can be
determined by many factors. If
a strong natural part exists, start
there. For maximum versatility, we
worked from a center part taking
slightly diagonal back sections
starting just beneath the part.
Create a slice or weave pattern
that suits the desired end result
and be sure to leave the front
hairline out of the section. Apply
the Highlight Formula from scalp
to ends.
Step 7 (Foil Placement):
Continue taking 1-inch (2.5 cm)
subsections. No more than 4-6
foils should be needed to achieve
the desired effect. Repeat the
process on the opposite side.
Process until the desired level is
achieved. Vero K-PAK lighteners
must be shampooed well from the
hair; shampoo and condition using
appropriate Joico regimen.
