Sharing God’s Love and Making Disciples for Christ
The Pastor’s Pen
“God’s Fingerprint
Creating Our Fingerprints!”
“So God created humans in his image, in the image of God
he created them!” (Genesis 1:27) So God’s spiritual fingerprint
created our fingerprints and now we are called to reclaim the
fingerprints of all people. God loves us all!
In November we will begin our emphasis on what and how
we give back to God to carry out the ministry and vision God
has given us as a church. Peggy Nace, our Financial Administrator, has once again created our theme which is, “GOD’S
FINGERPRINT CREATING OUR FINGERPRINTS!” Created in
God’s image, we are called to leave our fingerprints on everything around us, especially the lives of the people with whom
we come in contact. Stop and think about it. Just where do
you leave your fingerprints. And, when you touch someone’s
life, do they feel the love of God or do they feel something different? Your touch makes a difference!
As we look at what we will give in 2015 in terms of finance,
energy, time, and passion, we will look at some of the fingerprints on our people’s lives. We will have a good number of
testimonies and reflections about how this church (you the
people) have given of your time, passion, energy, and finances
and how that has made a difference in so many lives. It will
be an exciting time of celebration of all that God has already
done and great anticipation about what is yet to come.
I can testify personally that you have left your fingerprints
on my life. I am not the same person I was 14 years ago.
You have shown me much love and grace and you have also
challenged me and corrected me and led me closer to Jesus. I
ask you to join me as we look at how God is ready to use the
fingerprints of Northside and our individual fingerprints to
touch the lives of people with the love of Jesus. This is amazing work God has given us. Let’s get ready to give of ourselves in ways that bring many others to know the grace and
forgiveness of Jesus!
Honored to serve Christ with all of you. . .Don

One highlight of the business was the old Colonel Sanders a
colorful character from Kentucky, who sold them spices
for their fried chicken. Sanders had an investment in the
businesses; they were some of his franchises. But even the
colonel now demanded cash for his spices. The restaurants
were deep in debt to him.
On his way home from work one day, Thomas decided to
swing by the local radio stations to see if they would carry
some advertising spots for the restaurants and allow him to
pay it back over time. It seemed like a last ditch effort.
The station manager was agreeable. "I'll tell you what.
That fried chicken is the best thing you serve. I'll swap you
some spots for some chicken."
Dave Thomas was elated. "Praise God, we're making
progress!" he said. Suddenly, it hit him. There was the
solution. "We have too much inventory," he said, out loud,
"I'll sell it and SIMPLIFY our menu. WE'LL ACCENTUATE
THE POSITIVE, and that's Colonel Sander's Kentucky Fried
Chicken!"
In short order, he sold off the excess inventory and used
the cash to buy chicken and spices. "I couldn't get over the
SIMPLICITY" he said later. He'd be able to maintain top
quality. God had answered his prayer.
In the weeks and months that followed, the restaurants
changed their name to Colonel Sander's Kentucky Fried
Chicken Take-Homes, and they sold chicken by the
buckets, with the Colonel's face on the front. Thomas paid
off the debt he owed the colonel. The Colonel's old hands
trembled when he got the check. This is the answer anyone
can apply, "in business and professional life." SIMPLIFY!
CLEAR THE SHELVES! MAKE ROOM FOR THE THINGS
THAT MATTER! "Say 'No' to the trivial; say 'YES' to God/,
says Thomas.
When Dave Thomas began his own restaurant, he named it
after his daughter, WENDY. He kept his menu simple,
offering old-fashioned hamburgers, and his success was
SIMPLY SPECTACULAR!
THINK ABOUT IT! Bill

Dave Thomas was 29 when he offered to take over the
management of four failing restaurants in Columbus, Ohio.
He had prayed about it and felt God was guiding him to do
this. With seventeen years of restaurant experience, he felt
certain he could turn them around but the more he tried,
the deeper the restaurants sunk into debt. Thomas couldn't
figure it out. They were well-stocked with inventory, but
the menu took ten minutes to read.

Operation Christmas Child, November 2 is our last
collection Sunday: We need a bag of shoebox-sized toys,
school supplies, and hygiene items for each child - there is
a supply list located on the Missions Bin. Our goal is to fill
over 200 shoeboxes – help us reach that goal and bring joy
to children in desperate situations throughout the world.
Are you getting emails from the church? If not we may
have the wrong email address for you. We are getting
several emails back. Please send an email to
[email protected] so the church can have
this on file. This is so we can send out important
information in a timely manner to the congregation.
Do you want to get special announcements i.e. weather
closings and the like? We send these out via email BUT we
can also send out a text message with the same
information. We need your cell number & cell service
provider (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, etc.) it is a lot faster
than you checking your emails.

Northside? We have over 250 people
praying for people’s prayer requests.

Send your shoes
to Lakeshore
and
help the 'camp
and retreat
center' raise
money
According to Funds2Orgs,
"Thomas" now manages a
team of people repurposing gently worn, used shoes and
marketing them in Haiti. This is an example of how the
shoes Lakeshore is collecting will be used. Lakeshore will
receive money for every pair of shoes it collects.
From now until Oct. 31, Lakeshore Camp and Retreat
Center is collecting new and gently used shoes for its
Funds2Orgs Shoe Drive Fundraiser.
Funds2Orgs is an organization focused on helping
churches, nonprofits, schools and civic groups raise money
to continue their work. It has partnered with Lakeshore to
help the camp and retreat center, a ministry of the
Memphis Conference of the United Methodist Church, raise
$50,000.
Funds2Orgs will pay Lakeshore for every pair of shoes it
collects and then send the shoes to developing countries,
where they will be cleaned, refurbished and used to help
people start businesses.
Lakeshore says it is accepting all types of footwear—
including boots, flip flops, dress shoes, cleats, golf shoes,
etc.—and encourages everyone to get involved.
Lakeshore staff will pick up donations or shoes may be
dropped off at any of the following locations:
Dyersburg, Jackson and Paducah District Offices
Jackson First UMC in Jackson, TN
Northside UMC in Jackson, TN
Camden First UMC in Camden, TN
Lakeshore Camp and Retreat Center in Eva, TN

Dear Friends at Northside,
“What a Friend We Have in Jesus”! Thanks for all the
cards, phone calls, and visits since the loss of my brother,

Dear NSUMC
We can’t believe it’s been 10 years since Yada
Sisterhood started our first night of ministry. From our
small beginnings in the LEC to now hundreds of women
from all around showing up in Hope Hall every month, we
stand amazed at what God has done in our midst. We want
to thank all of you who have volunteered, served on the
Leadership team through the years, provided childcare,
driven the golf carts, provided hall monitoring, helped with
sound or technology, set up tables, cleaned up tables,
taken out the garbage, decorated, prayed or supported this
ministry by your attendance. We are truly grateful. We feel
blessed to reach out to so many and provide nourishment
in the form of good food, good fun, and good fellowship
with inspired music and message for over 105 Yada event
nights! We certainly don’t know what the next 10 years
could bring, but we look forward to it with great
anticipation and feel blessed to continue as long as it’s the
Lord’s will.
Yada Blessings,
The Leadership Team
Parents Day Out is accepting applications for
