Carroll County Soup Kitchen December Meals
This year the Carroll County Soup Kitchen will expand
operations to include lunch on nine days in December. The
Soup Kitchen will be open on Monday and Thursday
(December 1, 4, 8 and 11), and Monday through Friday the
third week (December 15-19). On these dates, lunch will be

The Second Tuesday in November

It is the second Tuesday in November. It is Veterans Day. When I was much younger, each Veterans Day
would be a time of remembering those soldiers who had fought in World War I and in World War II. In later
years, we remember those brave men and women who have also served our country in Korea, in Vietnam, in
Iraq, in Iran, in Afghanistan, and elsewhere.
I know in some places on Veterans Day where there will be parades and someone will say “The Pledge of
Allegiance” and a list of names of veterans will be read. I know in other places, a woman and her two small
children will go to the cemetery and place a flag on a grave and weep.
We should take time on this day to remember the many who have fought in places with strange names:
Guadalcanal, Khe Sanh, Kandahar. We should pray for the day to come when there will be no more war,
when nations can settle differences of opinion without resorting to guns and bombs and missiles. We should
anticipate the time when the Prince of Peace will reign forever.
In the meantime, tell a veteran thank you. Let him, or her, know of your appreciation for the sacrifices they
have made.

the opportunity to sign up to buy Christmas gifts for a
child/children in need in our community. Stop by the sign
up table by the Worship Center or by the gym. We are also
in need of gently used items for our shopping section.
Clothes, shoes, toys, books, movies, household items are
needed. If you would prefer to give an offering for the
store, it would be greatly appreciated. Please designate
your gift as “Christmas Store”. You may also sign up to
help the night of the Christmas Store at the tables as well.
Thank you so much for your generous and compassionate
hearts!!

The Preschool Choir and Missions Groups will not meet
this coming Wednesday, November 19, due to the
church-wide Thanksgiving Dinner at 5:30 p.m.
Nor will they meet on Wednesday, November 26
due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Christmas Project 2014
Serving Older Adults (65+) in Carroll County
who have been victims of abuse, neglect, or
exploitation. Also included are adults ages 18 and
older who are disabled. You may help with this project
by purchasing items for their Christmas “wish list”.
Individuals, classes, and groups may sponsor one
or more persons. We have 25 names.
HOW: Select a person’s name on the bulletin board
by the Sunday School office. Write you name, or
group’s name on the large form and take a small “wish
list” slip with you. Purchase the items and turn them in
by Sunday, November 30. Gift cards are welcome, too.
Gifts should be in gift bags and NOT wrapped. Put
small list with adoptee’s name inside the bag.
