We all own a stack of cookbooks from church, schools, or famous chefs on TV. So here’s a fashion cookbook with recipes to help you look your best. STEP 1 - Let’s start with getting to know your body! Yes, I know - you see yourself naked in the mirror every day after you shower, but do you really see yourself? Take a deep breath and look. How long are your legs in relation to your torso? How wide are your hips in relation to your shoulders? What are your porportions? Your proportions are not necessarily height or weight issues, but also width and size of various parts of your body. From trim legs to thunder thighs - its all about balance. Why do some ladies need shoulder pads and others don’t? You must know your body shape. Are you a triangle or the opposite - the wedge? Maybe a rectangle. Regardless, we all want to have the look of the hourglass. STEP 2 - Now that you know your shape, let’s get to know your style. Are you a Classic? Someone who only likes styles that never go out? A safe look that can take you anywhere. You enjoy suits or jackets that give you a professional look! Maybe you are a Romantic, someone who loves lace, ruffles, flowing skirts with lots of feminine touches - pearls in your accessories. Or maybe you are a Dramatic. You like your look to make a statement. You try new trends, you create your outfits to be different. Bigger, bolder, jewelry! But the majority of you are Naturals. You enjoy comfortable, easy to wear outfits! Styles that let you blend within a crowd instead of being the trendsetter. Not a lot of of jewelry - simple, no fuss clothing. Most of us can be any of these fashion personalities or a combination of two. We just need to know how to put it all together for work, church, or play. STEP 3 - Now it’s time for color. Are you warm or cool? Does your skin have a peach or nude tone? Color is what lifts our spirits. We all have neutrals from black to navy, khaki to white. It’s the accent color that makes your wardrobe a breeze with mixing and matching! Build color in your shoe choices and accessories also. If you have red shoes, you need red jewelry, etc. Color in your wardrobe is like the icing on a cake. We all tend to go to black or navy as our bass color to build around. They both absorb light, and show the fewest imperfections. They camouflage any extra unwanted pounds. Prints can also keep the eye moving. You must know the colors that best compliment your skintone for your look. Lines show up in all your clothing and accessories from style to fit. Long-waisted, short-waisted, a pant can have a full rise or a mid-rise. Vertical lines go up and down and the faster the eye scans a line, the longer and more narrow they are. That’s why when you wear base dressing, (same color top and bottom) you appear taller and thinner. Horizontal lines create width and asymmetrical lines create a slimming look to certain body shapes. Layering your jewelry or adding a scarf can create the illusion of a vertical line to create a slimming effect. Our accessories and necklines are also lines that can slim. From V-neck tops to round-necks, wearing the correct style for your shape can make you look 10 pounds smaller and eliminate a double chin. STEP 4 - Then there is texture, which is important when selecting clothing. How a fabric feels equals its comfort. There are 4 basic natural fibers: wool, silk, linen and cotton. They are all fabrics that can be worn alone or blended with other fabrics. There are also lots of man-made fibers. Polyester has come a long way being one of the most versatile and easy care fabrics. “Sympli” is a great example of the right texture - it doesn’t cling and has great drape in the weight of the fabric. STEP 5 - Remember, an accessory is an invitation to look, anything that accents, accentuates, or points out! This can include the trim or button on a garment, the fabric itself or your belt or jewelry or shoes. If you don’t want them to look, then don’t issue the invitation to look. You need them to focus on you, the person, your face. So earrings and necklaces are oh-so-important. With this 5-step recipe, you can get dressed every day and know you look your best!!!
