CHAPTER I’S NEWSLETTER
October 2014
BOB AND BECKY’S PAGE
How's it going--good?? Well, the weather here
the last month has been really great for riding.
The evenings are chilly, but not that uncomfortable. We had a beautiful ride to the south
section picnic which was very well attended. We
did tour the Ash Cave - 10 Chapter I members
attended and thank you for great time and
conversations. Region D Rally, we understand it
was wet, but have to ask Charlie & Nancy for
more details. We had 18 members who attended
the dinner ride to Hotel Millersburg, thank you
Randy & Linda Porter, soon to be chapter
CHAPTER DIRECTORS
directors of Chapter B, for joining us. The food
Bob & Becky Benjamin
was good..... We took off for Plain City Saturday

morning and met up with 6 other Chapter I

members that were already camped there. This

super day/night ride for the chapter members that
CHAPTER GATHERING AT WOOSTER RYAN’S
would not camp. The bingo session- everybody
2ND SATURDAY OF THE MONTH AT 5:00 PM
was trying to rub against Sue Jester for luck since
she won 3 games, 2 of them in a row. Everybody thought she was pretty lucky, competition for Rosemary
in the luck category.- then on Sunday, some Chapter I members made there way to Ashland to attend
Chapter V's teddy bear ride, they had a good turn-out of bikes and another beautiful day, good job done by
Denny & Cathy Carpenter. We would like to welcome our new Ohio District Directors, Rudy & Linda
Copeland!! Also welcome Dave & Sally Slonaker as Assistant District Directors for our North Central
section, and along with that comes a new slogan "Ohio Rides-Join Us For The Journey". We would like to
thank Lloyd & Becky Glydewell for the good job they did as District Directors and a special thanks goes
out to Wayne & Deb Wolf for the job they done as the Assistant District Director for our section. We won't
say we will miss them, because both couples say they will still be involved in GWRRA so we will get to see
them in our travels and that's great! At the October gathering, Rob & Sue will be filling in as CD's for the
gathering with the help of Ron & Linda. Don't forget to have your passports that are filled out to turn in for
the chapter drawing---- YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN YOUR PAID DINNER FOR 2. If the persons
passport is drawn and not present, another one will be drawn until there is a winner present. All passports
will then be taken to the Officers meeting in November when 3 winners will be drawn for either Cabin
Fever, Buckeye Rally, and Region D Rally. Don't forget Roadkill Stew / Auction on November 1st. We still
need volunteers for stew and other food items on the sign-up sheet which Linda Harford will have at the
October gathering. PLEASE FOLLOW THE RECIPE FOR THE STEW- also we need our auction items new,
old, or otherwise. We will open the hall at 2:00 for those who can give us a hand setting up. Don't forget to
get with Ron Harford if you are interested in signing up for the Medic First Aid Class on November 2nd.

RON’S RIDER EDUCATION PAGE
Who’s Your ‘Drag’,
Who is this person who always rides at the back of a group
on a team ride? Some will say that they are the most
important member of the team. I do not disagree. Consider
all of the responsibility they carry on their shoulders. They
are the last out of the parking lot and the last in. From their
position, they can observe the other 4 to 6 riders in the
formation. (We all know that a group should not exceed 5
to 7 bikes or trikes). Who better to observe the new rider in
the group and offer his suggestions on how to help that
individual become a better rider than the ‘Drag.’ It is they
who keep the ‘Lead’ informed of traffic closing in on the
group. They are the person who tries to keep the team
together and helps maintain the proper spacing between
bikes. And it is the ‘Drag’ who is going to secure the lanes
and notify the ‘Lead’ when all is safe. After all bikes in
formation have cleared a road hazard and it is once again
RIDE EDUCATOR
safe to resume the staggered formation, the ‘Drag’ will
Ron Harford
notify the ‘Lead’ and all will be safe.
330-276-276
What if a rider in the group has a health issue which
[email protected]
necessitates them to pull out of the formation or if a rider
has a problem with their bike? It is the ‘Drag’ and only the
‘Drag’ who will stop and render assistance. If that should
ever happen, then the next rider in line assumes the ‘Drag’ position and the responsibilities that go
with it. If the ‘Drag’ notices someone driving erratically, this may be a sign that the rider is having a
serious health issue or mechanical failure. The ‘Drag’ immediately notifies the ‘Lead’ and with the
help of his CB tries to get the rider in question out of the group and to a safe stop.
That very important rider called ‘Drag’ or the backdoor, does all of this for our benefit in hopes
of reducing our risk as a motorcyclist. They deserve a pat on the back for what they volunteer to do.
So thank them at ever ride.
With all of these responsibilities, it is evident that special training is needed to become a
responsible ‘Drag.’ DO NOT PUT JUST ANYBODY BACK THERE. Every ‘Drag’ should participate in
a ‘Road Captain’ and ‘Team Riding’ seminar. They should have a CB that works well. It helps if they
are in the Rider Education Levels program and are current in CPR/First-Aid and riding courses. It
doesn’t hurt if they are good communicators and are liked by the membership.
Now we know who that person called ‘Drag’ is. It is not a position for everybody, but if you are
well trained and are ask to be ‘Drag’ for your Team, accept the duties and when you are responsible
for completing a safe Team Ride, you will be proud to be ‘Drag.’
We can all have safe ‘Team Rides’ when everyone assumes responsibility for their own ride,
but only if they come to the ride in good health, are well rested, and have their machine in good
mechanical condition. Being well prepared will make both the ‘Lead’ and ‘Drag’ positions easier to
maintain. Accidents happen and machinery breaks, but the risk of those things happening are
minimized when we are well trained, physically ready, and have serviced our equipment properly. If
we follow this advice everyone will have a more enjoyable and hopefully safe ride.
Training Reduces Risks,
Doug Boemecke
Iowa District Director of Rider Education

Be it a person or an animal, when we get together, it's like
one big reunion. The ones who went had a wonderful relaxing
time enjoying many different types of activities and food. CC,
even made a few new friends of which a few laughs were had –
she received just as much attention as many of our Goldwing
friends. The more activities one attends the more people we
recognize.
Many of our members have had up's and down's in many
different way's that we need to keep all in our prayer's. Audene
has graduated to a cane, so thinking before long that may be gone.
So, until I hear any further reports, let us remember -- When you
pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them and sometimes,
when you are safe and happy remember that someone has prayed
for you.
Looking forward to see many at our next gathering Oct. 11 which
will be a practice for Rob and Sue. Remember also, final plans will be made
for Road Kill Stew and Auction coming up Nov 1. -- until then.......travel safely and
enjoy the colors.

3/4 cup peanut butter
3/4 cup graham cracker crumbs
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup semisweet or milk chocolate chips
1/4 cup milk
Sea salt

In a microwave safe bowl, melt the butter & peanut butter together for 45 seconds. Stir until smooth. Add graham
cracker crumbs and sugar and mix to combine. Distribute mixture evenly between the prepared muffin cups.
Refrigerate for 15 minutes to set peanut butter layer.
After the peanut butter has chilled, combine chocolate and milk in a microwave safe bowl and heat in 25 second
