The first reading tells us to put our
faith into action. This passage is part
of a long list of ordinances God commanded the Israelites to observe. God
will judge us by how we treat our
neighbors. God will hear the cries of
any whom we neglect or mistreat and
will come to their defense.
In today’s Gospel the Pharisees put
the question of God’s law to Jesus.
“Which commandment of the law is
the greatest?” (Matthew 22:36) How
could he possibly choose from all the
detailed commandments the Jews
observed? He was sure to offend
somebody by his answer! Of course,
Jesus went right to the heart of the
matter. Love is the greatest commandment—love of God and love of
neighbor. Everything else is based on
this.

NATIONAL VOCATION AWARENESS WEEK
NOVEMBER 2-8, 2014
National Vocation Awareness Week will be celebrated in our country
November 2-8, 2014. Please ask Our Lord for more dedicated holy priests,
deacons, and consecrated men and women. May they be inspired by Jesus
Christ, supported by our faith community, and respond generously to God’s gift
of a vocation.

BOOK OF LIFE
In the Book of Life we have inscribed the names of our deceased loved ones for whom we
wish our parish family to pray
during the month of November.
The Book of Life is our parish
treasury of our very own All
Saints and All Souls. The book
is available in the vestibule during the month of October so that
anyone may write the names of
family members who have died
this past year. (Please note that
the Book of Life is for names of
the deceased only and not for
general petitions.)
PARISH NEWS
ALL SAINTS DAY
NOVEMBER 1
All Saints Day falls on Saturday, November 1 this year, and is not a holy
day of obligation in the Diocese of
Orange. We will be celebrating All
Saints Day at the 8:30 am daily Mass
on November 1.
THANK YOU!
What an amazing response there was
to our FALL BLOOD DRIVE!
Thank you to everyone who signed
up, came and donated. We collected
56 whole blood units + 6 ALYX donors = 12 units for a total of 68.
Please email:

Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
ALL SOULS DAY
NOVEMBER 2
On Sunday, November 2, we will be
celebrating the “Commemoration of
All the Faithful Departed” in a special way at the 10:00 am Mass. We
will honor our departed brothers and
sisters in Christ who have died this
past year. Although this Mass is celebrated in memory of our parishioners
who had their funeral Masses held
here, this will take place during the
regularly scheduled 10:00 am Sunday
Mass and all are welcome!
During the Prayers of the Faithful at
this Mass we will read the names of
our loved ones who have passed
away since last year’s All Souls Day,
and these names will also be displayed on a banner that will hang in
the sanctuary for all of November.
We will provide flowers at a table
outside before Mass so that a representative of the person who died may
bring up a flower as their loved ones
name is called.
Please call the Parish Office with any
questions.

The Cursillo Movement started in
Spain in 1944 and has been held
throughout the United States since
1957. It begins with a three day retreat held at Divine Word Retreat
Center from Thursday evening

Lisa or Ron Henry at (714) 2801702. Our very own Deacon Doug is
the Spiritual Director for the Diocese
of Orange Cursillo, so you can also
contact him at (714) 974-1416. Going
through Cursillo is like glimpsing at a
little bit of Heaven.
The following parishioners plan to
attend in October: Bridget Harness,
Mark and Rose Hasselbeck, Cecilia
McKay, Sean Pattison and Curtis
Sammons. The following parishioners will be working on the retreat
team in October: Greg Castro, Corey

O God of all the Nations, the One God who is and was and always will be, who in your providence willed that your Church
be united to the sufferings of your Son, look with mercy on
your servants in Iraq who are persecuted for their faith in you.
Grant them perseverance and courage to be worthy imitators of
Christ. Bring your wisdom upon leaders of nations to work for
peace among all peoples. May your Spirit open conversion for
those who contradict your will that we live in harmony. And in
all things may we be united in truth and freedom to seek your
will in our lives.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Our Lady Queen of Peace, pray for us.
